Just had to sit here and watch Ds (4) watching a dire programme on BBC1, called 'Stupid'...it's not so much it's a load of rubbish, and to be fair he did enjoy it (or so he said ) but the main character is called (wait for it)

King stupid.

Maybe it's just me but that immediately sounds like an abbreviation of a well known phrase, one which I'd rather Ds didn't repeat in all innocence at preschool...

I am imagining him calling one of the other kids the name, or one of the teachers...as in 'You are so & so and I am so & so' type role play.

(I had to watch it as I'm 40wks+2, look like a whale and cannot move )

really want to know now, what the captain pugwash thing is!

tortoiseSHELL · 12/06/2007 08:13

Cod is right, the Captain Pugwash thing was a myth!

FrannyandZooey · 12/06/2007 08:15

LOL at King Stupid

oh dear sorry I find that quite amusing EXCEPT that it isn't at all funny it being on a children's programme, no no

FLIER · 12/06/2007 08:24

I've come across this programme myself and was shocked too.

But, should a 4yo be watching CBBC? Surely its target audience is older than 4yo?

I know its not quite the point you were making, but.....

southeastastra · 12/06/2007 08:30

it seems like the programme makers thought it would be funny and appeal to adults seems a bit pathetic though to me.

i remember getting annoyed that ripley and scuff used to call each other 'spoon heads'

tortoiseSHELL · 12/06/2007 09:43

Captain Pugwash

that's a bit of an adult joke for the a children's programme - think it's producers seeing how far they can push it. innuendoes are quite common i think in children's programmes look at Big cook little cook for one- little cook is always getting splattered with white stuff (it was another adult who said this to me) and captain pugwash. with all this they can easily deny it and say it just innocent fun - or perhaps (don't agree it is necessary if it is the case) are they making it more interesting for adults watching with the children so they can have a laugh or are they trying to corrupt the kids.

i don't like the word stupid for this age group and the Harry books have it in as do other books, i always change it but ds1 knows! (dh didn't) and so it makes it a big thing for ds . it's like the word hate, far too strong a word for this age group IMO.

Well I have video proof - or maybe it was just over-dubbed but I have a very dodgy Captain Pugwash video
