NDN Rotting Apples

NC as pic is quite revealing, thought I’d include one so it shows I’m not a troll. Have a love/hate relationship with NDN as she’s very loud and obnoxious with 2 yappy dogs, garden full of dog shit and not a single care for others but she can be okay sometimes. I am a peace keeper though so have remained calm and civil so not to turn it into a dispute.

I went to take the bin out this morning and noticed two rotting apples sat on my grass directly next to the party wall which implies they’ve been dropped or thrown over on purpose. Their apple tree is in the front garden so there’s no way it could have got there naturally and they’re already rotting. I’m not really sure what message she’s trying to send here? Would have been impossible for the dogs to launch it over as they’re too small. I don’t feel I should have to put them in my bin. AIBU to drop them back over the wall? There’s no other way they could have got there, certainly not a bird as they’re too specifically placed. I feel like she’s probably picked some up from the front to put in the compost/bin and decided to chuck some over on her way for some sort of weird thrillConfused

I don't see why you'd assume anything to be honest. I could barely work out what you were referring to from the picture! Don't waste any mental energy on this, they could be there for so many totally mundane reasons that are nothing to do with your neighbour.

Do you need to move them, or can you just leave them there to rot down?

ProfessorMoody · 25/09/2018 15:49

Eh? Confused

tangyice · 25/09/2018 15:51

The terrace has rats already so it’s not a great idea to leave rotten apples. I didn’t want to make the OP too long but now I’ve got to drip feed a little. I reported them to the council for their garden being full of dog foul so I feel like it’s a retaliation. It was really horrendous and I gave them months to clear it up before I complained. There was 4 months worth of shit and piss just soaking into their paving stones. The stench beyond awful!

SpottingTheZebras · 25/09/2018 15:51

The rats or other wildlife quite possibly moved them.

AssassinatedBeauty · 25/09/2018 15:54

If that's the extent of their retaliation then I wouldn't worry! It's nothing, and as PP have said animals could easily have moved them there. Plus, how is this any different to windfall from apples trees that would be there anyway?

tangyice · 25/09/2018 15:56

There’s no gaps between the houses so the rat would have to get travel quite some distance to get it into the back garden. I know it will be a non issue to most but having rotting food dumped in your garden isn’t really pleasant. Regardless of how they got there they’re the only house with an apple tree for miles so it’s definitely my NDN’s. I’m not sure if IBU to drop them back over but they did come from their garden so I’d just be returning them

The tree is quite far away from my fence at the front and their apples have never fallen into my garden. Which is surprising considering the harsh winds we had the other week! I’d just rather not put them in my bin as it’s only just been emptied today and they’ve got a compost. I don’t want to seem like a lunatic stood at their door with rotting apples in my hands thoughConfused

They're just apples, they would be on the ground either way and you really don't know that your NDN has done this as some weird tiny slight! It could have been animals, it could have been visitors mucking about, etc etc. Just leave them! Or if you're really worried about them rotting there then put them in your compost/rubbish bin.

OraangeSoda · 25/09/2018 15:59

Seriously?! Confused

Lucisky · 25/09/2018 16:00

I'm sorry but I can't get excited about a squishy apple on the lawn. It will rot down.
Tbh I've never seen rats tucking into fallen fruit, its usually birds and wasps.

niknac1 · 25/09/2018 16:01

It’s been high winds here, the wind can take apples a distance.

butterflysugarbaby · 25/09/2018 16:02

Is it your apple tree or hers?

Sparklesocks · 25/09/2018 16:06

I don't think it's worth reading into..

Usernumbers1234 · 25/09/2018 16:08

I’m with you OP this is clearly a fruit based assault on your home.

I’m not sure throwing the apples back will suffice, maybe go and buy a couple of pineapples to show you mean business.

Actually no, go with something smaller first, a Guava perhaps. Then you can respond with a pineapple if she escalates to a melon

butterflysugarbaby · 25/09/2018 16:09

I assume the apples are the neighbours.

Personally, I would just pick them up, and go feed the horses in the fields not far from where I live. Bit of a drama queen aren't you @tangyice ??? Wink

MamaHechtick · 25/09/2018 16:09

Squirrels? They are always leaving apples and walnuts around our garden

Bibidy · 25/09/2018 16:10

Oh wow.

Just chuck the apples away! For all you know a couple of squirrels brought them round.

WorriesGalore · 25/09/2018 16:11

Just let it go, OP. Not worth it.

WhereIsThisGoing · 25/09/2018 16:13

Birds pick up apples too and drop them anywhere. Not sure it's wise to jump to conclusions here

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/09/2018 16:13

It’s only apples.

Cindersdonegood · 25/09/2018 16:15

I watched a crow pick up a whole nectarine that DD had left out on my lawn and promptly drop it as it tried to fly away and I had to go pick it up from the neighbour's garden.

That's probably what happened. Bird tries to fly away and drops it. Tries again with another. Drops that in the same place. Gives up.

Fruit based assault... Are law enforcement aware of this new type of hate crime?

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 25/09/2018 16:21

My neighbours kids are fucking pricks, we've had apples, potatoes, dirty nappies, various toys all flung over the wall. I never react as thats what they want. I bin the stuff and will bag up the toys then hand them back as a little, passive aggresive win to myself.

Ignore the apples. Birds probably dropped them. If their garden is full of shit apples are the least of your worries.

Fresta · 25/09/2018 16:22

Seriously? You really think the neighbours best efforts are two rotten apples?
Apples don't attract rats any more than any other natural food sources such as berries, etc. They are a natural product and rot away in time- my apple tree sheds 100s of apples every autumn and some land in the hedgerow undetected- never seen a rat.

Squirrels on the other hand love apples so it's possible they could have carried them over the wall- animals are great climbers and a rat or a squirrel can run and climb walls with an apple in it's mouth.

JamPasty · 25/09/2018 16:23

Not the point of this thread but please don't do this butterflysugarbaby: would just pick them up, and go feed the horses in the fields not far from where I live

Rotten apples could kill a horse, and feeding other people's animals, unless you have their permission, is not a good idea.
