Taken his friend instead of me wtf

Totally prepared to be told I’m being unreasonable if it’s me! Also fully recognise it’s a first world problem lol.

My partner and I have been together just under 4 years. We both love a certain film series.

Yesterday he says to me ‘when. ** comes out in 2019 I have to go watch it with (his friend)’

They were good friends, used to live as housemates and saw all the others in the series together but he’s seen this guy twice in the last nearly 4 years!!

This is a film that he knows I love and intend to watch when it comes out.

He saw my face and changed it to ‘I’ll watch it twice, once with BF and then with you’

Now I don’t mind going with BF. Make it a group thing maybe, but to put a guy that he hasn’t even spoken to much for years ahead of me is pissing me off. Why can’t he watch it with me then go see it with BF for instance?

I’m probably being oversensitive as a few things are making me feel a bit useless at the moment (not him- medical)

OP posts:

Umm it’s a film. Why is it a big deal? Is he suddenly not allowed to do things with his friends? You sound a bit controlling tbh. Lighten up.

Enigmam · 24/09/2018 10:01

If it's Avengers it's a big deal but that's only because I'm obsessed. I don't need DP to watch it with me though.

user187656748 · 24/09/2018 10:04

It can't be avengers, they've been trotting those out at a rate of two a year if you're watching the whole story and so the DP would have seen the friend a lot more than twice in 4 years.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 24/09/2018 10:05

So who did you watch the last films with?

ScrumpyCrack · 24/09/2018 10:07

Why have you concealed the name of the film? Confused

TheBeatGoesOnandOn · 24/09/2018 10:07

I'm with you OP.

If he knows you like it, he's clearly making it a lads bonding thing. Which is great to do but not before your partner - especially if they aren't regularly in contact, can't be that close.

I've asked my husband to watch Fantastic Beasts with me and a friend wanted to as well so I'd said I'd go with them a couple days later.

I'd say fair enough if you didn't like the film though as that's just being pedantic.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 24/09/2018 10:08

Oh I so want it to be Toy Story 4.

Because the OP is chucking hers out of the pram.

Honeyroar · 24/09/2018 10:08

Flip it round, imagine if you'd seen a particular series of films with your friend and they dumped you for a partner. You don't need to see a friend all the time for them to still be in your head - as this proves.

I can see why you're upset, but he's stuck between a rock and a hard place, isn't he. My husband chose to go out with a friend on a weekend I'd told him about an event we could do together. I was disappointed, but I still went on my own and had a good time. From your headline I thought he'd chosen to take his friend on a once in a lifetime holiday or something that would be a one off.

TheBeatGoesOnandOn · 24/09/2018 10:08

Oh and it's the kind of 'of course it will be me and friend' instead of 'partner I want to go with you both do you mind if I go with bill first? He has nobody to go with'

kenandbarbie · 24/09/2018 10:09

It could be specifically avengers not marvel.

longwayoff · 24/09/2018 10:11

Is it Debbie does Dallas 4?

TheBeatGoesOnandOn · 24/09/2018 10:12

Oh hang on I missed he's seen these with him before - thought it was a single / first instalment thing.

If I was him I'd just have said I'd love to see it with friend first as it's tradition but I love the series so much i want to watch it with you too.

Or you could watch with a friend of yours?

Comments re: school are petty and show the posters haven't matured enough to disagree without insulting people. Ignore them, OP.

RangeRider · 24/09/2018 10:18

longwayoff Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/09/2018 10:20

What film is it?

Helpmefindaholiday · 24/09/2018 10:24

🤣 at bitches when you’ve posted one of the most ridiculous AIBU ever.

Of course you’re being unreasonable, unless you’re 14 in which case LTB.

InspectorIkmen · 24/09/2018 10:30

Actually I also really want to know why you've * the name of the film.
That's almost the worst fuckwittery in this whole silly scenario!

ravenmum · 24/09/2018 10:31

How lovely for him that he's got this long-lasting tradition with an old friend, and that even though they don't see each other often, he knows he could just call up and they'd go and see this film for old times' sakes. Very heart-warming. You must be happy for your loved one that he has such a good old friend.

itswinetime · 24/09/2018 10:34

there is a How to train your dragon out next year too

Also another x-men --but they are always a let down. that one is scheduled for valentines day though i think so i can see why the look Wink

Finally for my list of possibles is frozen 2!! in which case Let it Go Op, Let it Gooooooo!!

SparklyMagpie · 24/09/2018 10:35

I needed a laugh this morning

You're reaction to the replies is priceless

Get a grip

TrudeauGirl · 24/09/2018 10:39

Yabu sorry. He needs time with friends too. He'll see it afterwards with you.

Saltedcaramelcake · 24/09/2018 10:42

I love how you've the film name, is it that embarrassing? I think you are being rather silly. If you said he was taking his ex gf who he saw all the other films with I'd agree, but taking his mate, leave him to it, you can watch the film again.

Saltedcaramelcake · 24/09/2018 10:43

*hidden

oohyoudevilyou · 24/09/2018 10:47

YABU. This series of films if their thing - it's something of significance to them both that the associate with each other and have done together historically. I'm sure you and your partner have lots of other special things that you do together - let them keep their friendship bond through this one shared activity.

GabsAlot · 24/09/2018 11:02

is it james bond?

anyway grow up we're bitches coz we dont agree?

Artofpretending · 24/09/2018 11:07

You were not ‘totally prepared’ to be told you were being unreasonable.

He can go twice, like he suggested - problem sorted.
