To ask for your help after hairdresser made my hair tangerine?

b123p · 23/09/2018 14:29

Had a dreadful experience at the hairdresser last week and my hair has gone patchy ginger tangerine with streaks of hot pink.

A manager of the original hairdresser has offered to fix it free of charge, but I feel bad that she will be out of pocket for her colleague's mistake.

Would you give a tip in this instance, and if so, how much? It may be a case of just returning my hair to how it was when I walked in, and will have wasted two of my days off. Original fee would have been circa £150, and after an unlucky spell with money, could do with holding onto it, but want to be fair.

This is just too British!

Of course no tip!

ButAIBUtho · 23/09/2018 14:31

I would give them precisely fuck all.
I'd get my hair fixed and never go there again.

MadameButterface · 23/09/2018 14:34

Just let them correct your colour and don’t worry about it

If they are decent hairdressers, they want you to be happy with your hair and no bad feelings

If you are happy with the outcome you could offer something but it would probably be refused. Something like this happened with one of the stylists where i work and the client was really happy with the eventual outcome when her colour was corrected, and insisted on offering something, salon owner just said ‘ok well just give me £20 for the products then’

PorkFlute · 23/09/2018 14:35

The manager will be paid more than the stylist and be more experienced so it’s only right they should correct the fuck ups. If you’ve missed 2 days pay to have exactly the same hair (but for however long it was orange and pink) you don’t owe them anything.

Oysterbabe · 23/09/2018 14:35

Can we see a picture?

Noodge · 23/09/2018 14:43

Pics or it didn't happen. I would take her up on her offer of fixing it, it isn't her fault but it isn't yours either.

MarcieBluebell · 23/09/2018 14:48

I'd ask for a refund.

b123p · 23/09/2018 14:57

I haven't paid anything. The person I saw was supposed to be their lead colourist. Just feel bad for the person giving up their time free for someone else's mistake.

I asked for rose gold baylage (Google screengrab above). Other pics are my hair now.

If the salon messes up your hair so they should bloody well put it right for free!

Absolutely no tip

Loopytiles · 23/09/2018 15:00

That is just a normal part of the risk they take being in business together. Nothing for clients to feel bad about.

OverTheHedgeSammy · 23/09/2018 15:02

Yikes! Thats really gome wrong! No tip for fixing, and the salon SHOULD be out of pocket.

b123p · 23/09/2018 15:04

I had wondered if I was being a bit silly about a tip. I cried, I hate it. She had suggested dyeing some strips of my natural colour lower down so that it looked lovely and blended, like the picture, but decided not to do that for some reason. The roots look horrible.

The manager has been great, it has to be said.

BelindaTheBadger · 23/09/2018 15:04

You should absolutely NOT feel bad! So cut that out immediately Grin.

That’s not right - your hair as it is now. They should 100% correct it for nothing.

Sparklesocks · 23/09/2018 15:06

It’s their fuck up and they’re doing it to fix it, no need to give the hairdresser money for what their colleague failed to do.

Knowivedonewrong · 23/09/2018 15:08

As an ex hairdresser, I think you should ask them to correct it.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/09/2018 15:12

That's pretty bloody dreadful tbh - the shades are wrong and don't blend well, and IMO they've taken too much of the bleach too far up. The darker root is too small and the transition between the root and the "rose gold" is far too blunt/blocky.

I wouldn't pay a bean for them fixing it.

b123p · 23/09/2018 15:15

That's how I feel Statistically. Taking the colour out of it, the roots are terrible! So disappointed.

Thank you all. Glad to hear I'm being unreasonable about tipping on this occasion Grin

Noodge · 23/09/2018 15:27

I can't be the only one who actually likes it Grin I think it's a nice colour
Not the point though of course. It is far from what you asked for and they should sort it out

RibbonAurora · 23/09/2018 15:32

Bloody hell they've made a right mess of that (sorry, don't want to make you feel worse, OP, but honestly) - too right you pay nothing for them to correct it.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/09/2018 15:32

Let them fix it. If the best they can do is restore your original colour, then IMO you should also be entitled to your money back - you didn't pay to have your hair look the same as it did when you went in.

You already had that and it cost you nothing.

sprinklesandsauce · 23/09/2018 15:33

Yes, the roots look terrible, and the hair colour looks nothing like what you actually asked for.

My friend is a hairdresser and she says that absolutely the manager of the salon should put it right at their own cost, because it is their reputation at stake, and then it is up to them to sort it out with the stylist.

b123p · 23/09/2018 15:38

I haven't given them a penny at this stage, so if they:

  1. Take me back to original colour, I'll be down two days off, some gutzpah and a family size bar of Oreo Dairy Milk (for the trauma.

OR

  1. Get me to the colour I actually wanted, I'll be down an extra day off, but have a free hair colour. I guess it's this scenario I'm wondering if I should tip in? General consensus seems to be not though.

Glitterandunicorns · 23/09/2018 16:20

Hi OP, in my humble opinion, you fed shouldn't tip in either of your two cases. The very least they can do is to either take you back to your original colour, or get you the colour you requested, whichever is your preference. Irrespective of who fixes the mistake, or which option you request, no tip.

MrMeSeeks · 23/09/2018 16:28

Noodge nope i do too!
She’s bleached way too much of the hair though and the pink hasn’t taken to half of it, so not what the op was going for.
