Re: car parked over my drive

Some complete twat has parked halfway over my drive. I have no idea which house or flat the owner is in so can't knock. It would be a minor annoyance aside from the fact that today is my late son's due date and I need to visit the cemetery this morning. My son was born early due to complications and sadly passed away shortly after. So going to the cemetery on his due date is not negotiable. And it has to be this morning as the family are coming over at midday to mark the day.

I think I can get out by going through several of the neighbours driveways (No cars at the moment). Of course, if any of the cars return before I leave or come back, I am screwed.

I realise i can't do any damage to this inconsiderate moron's car but AIBU to really wish I could? This dickhead decided that parking their heap of junk was more important than my right to get off my driveway, without considering what my circumstances might be. I don't wish my personal nightmare on them (no one should have to know this hell) but God I hope some kind of karma reaches them.

Go and bang on all the neighbours' doors. It is likely to be a visitor

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 23/09/2018 09:39

I'd Be knocking on every door.

insancerre · 23/09/2018 09:40

Get in your car, drive right up so you are practically touching the car and beep your horn until someone comes out to move it

Harrykanesrightsock · 23/09/2018 09:40

Flowers you really don’t need this today. Just knock on doors. Start with nearest and just keep going. X

KlutzyDraconequus · 23/09/2018 09:40

Get as close to it as possible and hold your car's horn down.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 23/09/2018 09:42

Poor you OP if you decide not to knock leave a note on the windscreen. Hopefully thwy are just dropping in somewhere and will be gone soon

Bobbysausages · 23/09/2018 09:43

Thanks so sorry for your loss.

What a selfish dickhead! Regardless of the circumstance you shouldn't do that. If it was me in that situation I'd write a note and leave it on the windscreen telling them what you have said here.

Xxx

NatashaRomanov · 23/09/2018 09:50

Can you not call the police (non-emergancy of course!) if they have blocked you in?
Something about it being illegal to block access to the highway?

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 23/09/2018 09:51

Police won't do anything as it's regarded as a civil matter.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 23/09/2018 09:51

Repeatedly honk your horn and knock on all the neighbours doors.

rainbowstardrops · 23/09/2018 09:53

Really hope they move it soon x

Whatsthispain · 23/09/2018 09:53

Set it's alarm off/ beep your horn.

DDogMum · 23/09/2018 09:54

I'd ring 101 and explain your situation, if they have the owners mobile number on file connected to number plate they can call

Georgina125 · 23/09/2018 09:55

Unfortunately we are opposite a big block of flats and it is highly likely to be one of those. That is hundreds of flats and I don't have time to do it before I leave for the cemetery. I might blast my horn if I am unable to get back on the drive though. Leaving a note is tempting but it is heavily raining so would be illegible very quickly (can't find any plastic wallets).

OP posts:
Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 23/09/2018 09:57

Give it a nudge with your bum. Enough to set the alarm off.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 23/09/2018 09:58

What a horrific day, so sorry op. Get your car out now as you have a solution before anyone else parks.

Then put a note on the car that's blocking you telling them exactly what you've said here. Hopefully it will stop them doing it again.

FesteringCarbuncle · 23/09/2018 10:00

The non emergency police came out to me when I was blocked in on my drive
The found the owner, who was also fraudulently using a blue badge, and gave them a stern talking to

Homemenu1 · 23/09/2018 10:00

Get your car of the drive, then set the alarm of and spend a few minutes dramatically taking photos of the number plate

AdoreTheBeach · 23/09/2018 10:03

I’m sorry for your loss OP.

Have you been able to get out?

LucieMorningstar · 23/09/2018 10:03

“Dear driver of this car

Thankyou for parking this monstrosity over my drive, I’ve not been able to get my car off and today is an important day for me. My baby died and I wanted to go to the cemetery this morning to mark the day he should have arrived in to the world, but I couldn’t do that as your car was in my way, so I’d like to thank you for making an already upsetting and stressful day that bit more stressful.

I hope you have a good one

Georgina125”

Then stick it under his wiper in a sandwich bag.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/09/2018 10:08

The most important thing here is for you to be at the cemetery this morning. I would try and move your own car asap. Do not blast your horn or leave a note particularly if its anonymous because no-one will pay any attention to it.

Parking over and blocking a driveway belonging to someone else is one of the most common reasons that people end up falling out with their neighbours. It's rude, discourteous and can cause a whole lot of problems, especially if access to the driveway is completely blocked in either direction.

When faced with this situation, many homeowners try to fight fire with fire and come out brandishing a copy of the Highway Code which in paragraph 243 requests that motorists "DO NOT PARK in front of an entrance to a property".

However, if they take things further and report the offender to the police - it often comes as a big surprise to find out that it isn't actually illegal for a motorist to park in front of a private driveway, despite what you think the Highway Code is saying. The important thing to pay attention to is the language used in the rulings. If 'Do not' is used, then this is advisory and should be followed - but there is no legal comeback if a motorist chooses to ignore it.

PlatypusPie · 23/09/2018 10:12

Could you leave a note asking them to move and then get a taxi ? Anyone who is this inconsiderate may not be very helpful , and even unpleasant, , if you manage to find them anyway and you don’t need to have more emotional distress today .

safariboot · 23/09/2018 10:21

The police will usually act if you're blocked in, though not if you're blocked out. But in your case you're not blocked in yet.

NicoAndTheNiners · 23/09/2018 10:24

Police came when I had this issue.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/09/2018 10:25

Could you call 101 and tell them how important today is. Maybe if you give them the Reg., they can make contact, and ask them to move.
Thinking of you and your family OP.💐
