Re: car parked over my drive

Some complete twat has parked halfway over my drive. I have no idea which house or flat the owner is in so can't knock. It would be a minor annoyance aside from the fact that today is my late son's due date and I need to visit the cemetery this morning. My son was born early due to complications and sadly passed away shortly after. So going to the cemetery on his due date is not negotiable. And it has to be this morning as the family are coming over at midday to mark the day.

I think I can get out by going through several of the neighbours driveways (No cars at the moment). Of course, if any of the cars return before I leave or come back, I am screwed.

I realise i can't do any damage to this inconsiderate moron's car but AIBU to really wish I could? This dickhead decided that parking their heap of junk was more important than my right to get off my driveway, without considering what my circumstances might be. I don't wish my personal nightmare on them (no one should have to know this hell) but God I hope some kind of karma reaches them.

We are out. The sandwich bag idea is good, I will do it if the car remains.

It is illegal to park over a dropped curb I thought . Not on a driveway as that's civil but parking to block a dropped curb is a motoring offence

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 23/09/2018 10:30

I learned from mn that police will only attend if the vehicle is preventing a business vehicle from leaving the drive.
Sorry for your loss op.
Hope today goes OK for you all.

I used to answer 999 / 101 calls. If they are blocking your driveway and you can’t get on to the drive then Police won’t attend.
If you need to get your car off your drive for an urgent or sensitive reason then usually officers will attend and get the keeper to move their vehicle (if they live locally).
Otherwise they would have the vehicle repositioned if the keeper isn’t local.

When you go back if the car is still there park right up behind it. Then wait .......

NellieBee · 23/09/2018 10:50

Assholes. Sorry for your loss, op.

ButtonMoonLoon · 23/09/2018 11:00

Call the police- I once had a car removed as it was obstructing my driveway.

Very sorry for your loss x

Sorry for your loss OP.

Dad has this at his flats. The entrance has a white line across it but the people who park along the road ignore it and encroach as far as they can so the residents can't see out. Dad's neighbour puts PA notes on the windscreen which end up in the hedge. Dad decided that the last one whose wheels were on the line needed more direct action so got his grease gun & put a large smear of industrial strength grease under the driver's door handle. The car has not been seen there again...

Malbecfan · 23/09/2018 11:13

Should also have added that if your family is coming later, I would ask them to park either side of the idiot, preferably touching their bumper.

MissEliza · 23/09/2018 11:45

So sorry for your loss Op Thanks. I agree with leaving a note in a sandwich bag.

SleepFreeZone · 23/09/2018 11:47

So sorry for your loss OP 😭

Georgina125 · 23/09/2018 11:47

I told my Mum about the idiot's car and she replied that she has a large key. But now we are back and the car has gone. It might have been because when our car was being driven off the drive, it was literally an inch off their boot. If they were watching, I imagine they might have feared for their paintwork.

Thanks everyone. I know it is not an exciting thread but I needed to vent.

So sorry, something like that makes an already impossible trip worse Thanks

Easynow · 23/09/2018 13:49

You could always do a dvla check online (takes seconds) to see if it is taxed & mot'd then ring police if it isnt.

Flowers Glad you got out.

MrsMozart · 23/09/2018 13:55

Glad you got your car out.

Hope the day goes as well as possible Flowers

Ontheboardwalk · 23/09/2018 19:58

Georgina if I’d have thought they were watching, I’d have got out of the car, rubbed their paintwork, shrugged and drove away. I’m sure they would have made an appearance after that Grin

Ontheboardwalk · 23/09/2018 19:58

Oh and vent away, sorry for your loss
