My friend is disgusted... I was shocked at her response...

Who is right?

Depends on what's on screen really. Talk about killing/death/torture will go right over a toddlers head but they do have nasty stuff on screen sometimes.

firawla · 22/09/2018 23:31

I wouldn’t do that. I don’t think most parents watch adult shows like that in front of children once they get out of the sleepy baby stage. If it has violence / scary / bad language that’s all unsuitable plus if you’re concentrating on the show, are you just leaving your toddler to their own devices?
Best to watch when they are asleep - which I think is the more normal thing to do, so I’m more with your friend

OvO · 22/09/2018 23:37

I wouldn't. I love criminal minds but there's so many disturbing scenes I have to look away from, I definitely wouldn't let a toddler see that kind of thing.

Eemamc · 22/09/2018 23:46

I probably wouldn’t. They do take stuff in at that age, and some of the stuff on Criminal Minds even freaks me out. When I was a similar age my mum was watching Crossroads I think and there was a rape storyline in it. My mum didn’t think I was watching, so left it on. Later on I was doing something odd with my dolls, and my mum asked me what I was doing, and I said matter of factly “oh, he’s raping her mummy.” I don’t believe I was traumatised by this obvs... but probably not what you want your toddler to have seen, absorbed and repeated back to you!

penisbeakers · 22/09/2018 23:49

It's a no from me.

TawnyTeal · 23/09/2018 01:23

No way on earth would I watch anything like Criminal Minds around a young child. Their minds are like sponges and they retain so much - even at a subconscious level. They aren’t emotionally or cognitively mature enough to handle the content, regardless of how little they seem to be paying attention.

FissionChips · 23/09/2018 01:28

I don’t watch any adult tv untill my child is in bed, it’s not difficult.

timeisnotaline · 23/09/2018 01:34

I would absolutely not do that!! Why would you let them see those things? At an age where they absorb everything??

troodiedoo · 23/09/2018 01:39

god no. yabu.

Tomatoesrock · 23/09/2018 02:22

Yabu. It is not right, DC can sense fear and suspense.

Katedotness1963 · 23/09/2018 02:29

No. I would not watch it with a small child around.

Shinesweetfreedom · 23/09/2018 02:36

Oh no no no.
Love the show but hell no with a child that age any where near.
I thought they come with an after 9 o’clock showing because of the content.
You are joking right?

Blondebakingmumma · 23/09/2018 03:45

No

WittyFuck · 23/09/2018 03:55

100% NO, not anything else which could frighten them.

Fabricwitch · 23/09/2018 04:00

YABVU in my opinion!

bumblingbovine49 · 23/09/2018 04:31

I wouldn't.

OlennasWimple · 23/09/2018 04:41

No. Of course not. Why would anyone think that was OK?

Whereismumhiding2 · 23/09/2018 04:51

No Way. It can really disturb children. Why would you want to expose your toddler to that?!?

None of those murder-death-kill type programmes are suitable to have on around children!

It used to cause huge problems for us with my parents who love those type of programmes, when babysitting or on holiday together. My youngest DC 5-9 year olds (at time) became really upset & wouldn't sleep after I came home to find my parents had bloody NCIS on in background !!

We have returned to chalet back from swimming and had to stand outside whilst parents were watching it on daytime telly, saying please turn it off. (Even the theme music noise can be triggering now for my littlest!! )

My sister and I had to set rules with my parents of no CSI, no Criminal Minds nor NCIS at all during day or evening whilst children are up or around. Nor any programme with graphic images. And that I didn't care if they were into programme story, if child gets up you steer them away out of the room or turn it off if unsuitable. They understand now as have seen how upset their GDC get.

DunesOfSand · 23/09/2018 04:52

2.5 months, yes whilst I was on a constant feeding marathon. We probably kept the adult stuff to evenings only after about 6 months, when he started going to bed around 8.

2.5 years, no.

librarysuperstar · 23/09/2018 08:21

No, that's awful! Shock

MeYouWye · 23/09/2018 08:24

I stopped when my kid was about 6 months.. My 2.2 year old now can hold a conversation, they picks things up even when they don't speak. No way would I have CM on (fwiw even I have stopped watching it as I found it so disturbing)

hidinginthenightgarden · 23/09/2018 08:28

I did up until she was around 18month- 2 years. Stopped as it didn't feel appropriate.

BillywilliamV · 23/09/2018 08:30

You'll think its fine until your toddler shouts "Mummy, why did thst man have no head?" or something similiar in the checkout line in Tesco.

SlimDogMillionaire · 23/09/2018 08:32

Yes yabvu

Pickleypickles · 23/09/2018 08:35

My mum watched casualty with me when I was 3 and I was terrified of balconys for years after watching Sam get pushed off one and die so I wouldn't watch criminal minds with a nearly 3 year old. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it either though, it's done now and no harm came.
