Boring Parking CF'ery (diagram included)

irnbrusax · 22/09/2018 16:22

Long time user but had to make a new account as I keep forgetting my login detailsBlush

I'm ready to be told I'm BU because it's a public road and anyone can park there. I'm not bothered about the parking itself per se, it's the fact that ever since I've installed CCTV my neighbour's have taken it upon themselves to plonk their car in front of my house 24/7. They never did this before. I've actually seen them park up, get out and then move it further forwards in front of my house away from theirs whilst looking at the camera to make sure it's in the right spot (my camera beeps when it detects motion, don't worry I'm not stalking themGrin). There is enough space for one car outside each house and then there's a shared drive round the back with spaces for more cars. 3 of the 8 houses also have garages, one with space for 2 cars. They're clearly doing it to use my CCTV instead of getting their own as there is always space for them to park outside their house.

I've included a diagram as an actual photo would be too revealing. I hope it highlights the CF'ery well! The red circle is what my CCTV can see so parking anywhere else on the road is useless to me. I've been unable to park my car outside my own house and use the security measures as intended for the past 4 months. We live on a sharp bend that is also used by factories to load/unload lorries and parked cars can be easily damaged/crashed into. Other NDN on the diagram suffered a bad hit and run so we both got cameras installed. AIBU to confront them and say they should park outside their own house when there's space and get their own CCTV? I wasted lots of money to make sure their vehicle is secureConfused

Pretty much tough shit

ArtemisWeatherwax · 22/09/2018 16:30

Do you think they are using your CCTV to keep their car safe?

Can you turn it off?

eurochick · 22/09/2018 16:30

Turn it off when you go out. Tell you CF neighbour it's not working when it longer beeps for them.

RuLu · 22/09/2018 16:31

I wouldn't confront them but in conversation I'd mention my dummy CCTV that acts as a deterrent but doesn't actually record anything!

Alternatively if their car is broken into or damaged, I'd say the same if they asked for the footage!

Idiots!!

irnbrusax · 22/09/2018 16:31

I’m BU as they have every right to park there but isn’t it still weird to purposefully park outside someone else’s house when there’s ample space outside your own?Confused I’ve been trying to see if I can buy that bit of road but it seems impossible

Move the placement of the camera so it’s obviously pointing elsewhere temporarily?

EggysMom · 22/09/2018 16:32

Either they are using your CCTV to ensure their car is safe (or at least, if it gets damaged, it's on camera); or they have really dodgy visitors who can now park outside of their house to carry out drug deals with no fear of being filmed.

Mulberry72 · 22/09/2018 16:33

I’d turn the CCTV off!

ivykaty44 · 22/09/2018 16:34

get a dummy camera and aim it at there house

Smellyrose · 22/09/2018 16:35

Can you move the camera position? If so point it to where you’re parked or turn it off if ot’s Not recording your car. And tell the neighbours.

ivykaty44 · 22/09/2018 16:36

If there was damage to their car - they are going to knock on your door and ask to see the video, you know that don’t you?

Then what / a no it’s ours and we turned it off as every time you move your car it bleeps and it’s poubtless having a camera for someone else’s car?

Rachie1973 · 22/09/2018 16:38

I can’t see why this would upset anyone

irnbrusax · 22/09/2018 16:38

I would turn it off but it’s a really dangerous road, lots of young ‘boy-racers’ use it to speed up and down constantly so worried they’re going to send my wing mirrors or other bits of my car flyingBlush I can’t fit my car round the back either like everyone else as it’s quite wide. It’s not something I feel I can just confront them about it’s a weird subject. Although we are on friendly terms, they can be quite shouty and aggressive. They always left me a space before I got CCTV it’s just strange. All it takes is telling me they don’t feel secure and I could point one of my cameras in their direction for them. It’s so trivial I know but my car is too valuable too me. I can feel my brain cells slowly leaving!

Agree with a PP. Install a dummy camera pointing towards their house and parking in front thereof.

irnbrusax · 22/09/2018 16:42

I never thought about the possibility of dodgy visitors! I know they do have a son that smokes cannabis in their back garden when he visits. Don’t want to derail off into something else though but could be a possibility! I’m not upset about it, more annoyed that I bought CCTV for my car and can’t really use it. I know there are much worse problems I could have. Maybe I should have made my OP a bit more lighthearted, I hoped the diagram would lighten the tone a littleGrin

Remove the cctv and see if they change their parking habits. Currently you're not benefitting from either the cctv or being able to park outside your own house. At least without the cctv, you get to park.

Alternatively, assuming you do talk to your neighbour pop round and say you hope they weren't worried about the cctv being intrusive as you only have it turned on when you're parked in that spot.

TittyGolightly · 22/09/2018 16:44

Pretty sure your CCTV shouldn’t be covering anywhere that you don’t own.

"I’ve been trying to see if I can buy that bit of road but it seems impossible"

Can't you turn the patch of grass in front of your house into a parking area? Obviously if there is a public pavement between your house and the road you would need to apply for a dropped kerb.

LongSummerDays · 22/09/2018 17:31

TittyGolightly is right.

LongSummerDays · 22/09/2018 17:32

amicissima is also right. Grin

Nanasueathome · 22/09/2018 17:34

Park outside their house and set your camera that way

Nanasueathome · 22/09/2018 17:35

Oh, cross post there.
I’d still park outside their house and switch the cctv off then
Tell them it’s not working
