I love when there is a terrified/aggressive
cat fighting having an exam or medication and im able to calm it enough to do what we need to do and maybe even get a cuddle. Or when i persuade an animal that is refusing to eat that the warmed up pate on my fingers really doesnt taste so bad.

Not so much the low pay and ridiculous hours

Most - my immediate colleagues, I've known some of them for 8 years, they're a fantastic bunch of people.

Least - some of our "customers" who seem to be unable to search our intranet, read what's on there, and follow policy; they think it's quicker to come to us directly. Except that all we do is answer with a hyperlink to the intranet pages!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 22/09/2018 18:45

Love my children at work (cp sw) all of them it feels like such a privileged role. I am cuddled, climbed on, cried on and snotted on never mind the baby sick.
Being invited to hold a newborn baby by a proud mum never ever gets old ever it gives me goosebumps every time.

The bad side is the stench of bo and cigarette smoke. And that's not all my clients or even exclusive to clients by a long stretch ;-)

ForalltheSaints · 22/09/2018 18:45

Most- the people I work with are good people, who will never drop anyone in it, and help each other when needed.

Least- the offices we have moved to, which are remote.

amusedbush · 22/09/2018 18:48

I love seeing a student who has been struggling complete all of their work and graduate. Watching a cohort come in as nervous teenagers and go on to do semesters abroad, win awards for their work and secure graduate jobs is brilliant.

I hate all of the bureaucracy and politics within universities. Also, trying to get anything from (some!) academic staff before a deadline is like herding bloody cats.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/09/2018 18:48

removing my patient's socks and a snow storm of scaly foot skin explodes into the air revealing feet and toenails so unloved and neglected that you could weep.
I don't like that
.

This is part of MY job that is so rewarding (NHS Podiatrist) when someone has maybe neglected themselves due to ill health, not knowing where to turn or sadly being ashamed of their feet.
These are the ones I can make a huge difference (not cure the problems but make a 100% improvement to) in one treatment .

The downside -
entitled patients. The ones who are always late , don't do the simple things we request , ignore advice , some are just downright unpleasant Hmm

CaptainHammer · 22/09/2018 18:49

I love almost everything about my job, particularly helping people to be independent and remain at home.
I don’t like not having time off at Christmas. Actually no I don’t even mind working Christmas, it’s the listening to people who have a week off moaning they only have a week off that I don’t like! Oh and it would be nice to be paid more.

MyNameIsFartacus · 22/09/2018 18:55

I love the feeling that I've made a difference to somebody's day through the way I care for them.

Hate the rubbish wages and the sheer exhaustion after night shifts

ScribblyGum · 22/09/2018 18:56

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

I am Podiatrists biggest supporter (aim a community Physio).
When I discover terrible neglected feet (or 10g monofilament testing fails) I go back to the office and refer straight on to you guys.

TidyDancer · 22/09/2018 19:38

Best: my manager (best I've ever had) and a few lovely colleagues.

Worst: CF colleague who faked illness to fuck off on a sicknote holiday for six months, rude people, the fact that I don't get paid enough.

BackforGood · 22/09/2018 19:49

Best: My wonderful Team... colleagues and manager
Worst: The ridiculous caseload

Mehaveit · 22/09/2018 19:52

I love making a difference in children's lives when they've had a rough start through no fault of their own. Not so much when my good ideas get poo-poohed or worse poo-poohed then rehashed and adopted months later by someone else! And done badly at that. Months too late to make the difference they could have done.

But I work with fantastic people who tell me I'm doing a great job. Priceless.

RavenLG · 22/09/2018 19:53

Best - My lovely desk buddy, 3pm tea o'clock gossip in the kitchen, doing what I love (some of the time), wages are decent for what I do, management very accomodating of my anxiety/depression

Worst - The day to day bullshit I have to deal (finance side of my job), some people in my team (we seem to hire placement students with the worst fucking attitude problems), networking

winterinmadeira · 22/09/2018 19:55

Best - the work that I do which can make a difference to people and their lives and also all the travelling to interesting places and meeting interesting people.
Worst - the politics and the workload and the hours spent travelling

LunaLovegoodsRadishes · 22/09/2018 20:06

Like: Most customers are very grateful when they are lost, or need help with ticketing and contactless payment. Like my grade of colleagues for the Blitz spirit in the face of adversity. Trying to help people who have extra needs to get around on public transport.

Loathe: Fare evaders. Drunks. Customers who want me to fix society's ills. My managers undermining all decisions I make even though I am running the shift. The Evening Standard and Tory Assembly Members slagging us off.

Ameliarose16 · 22/09/2018 20:09

Most- getting a bond with pts, helping them through difficult situations inc cancer

Least- abuse from patients/boss

Santaclarita · 22/09/2018 20:18

Most - the work itself

Least - the pay, the management and my colleagues

Shadow01 · 22/09/2018 20:43
  • customers who are lovely and the kick I get from advising them to make the right purchase for them.
  • customers who treat retail workers as if we’re something they’ve stepped in and think it’s ok to verbally abuse and threaten me to get their own way
Knowivedonewrong · 22/09/2018 20:58

Most : my colleagues
Least: Getting up at 3am to start shift at 4am. Boring, repetitive.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 22/09/2018 21:02

Most - flexible, least - dead end.

LoniceraJaponica · 22/09/2018 21:04

Most - all of it
Least - the commute

HicDraconis · 22/09/2018 21:08

Most - making a difference. Saving lives (literally).

Least - management expectations that we will do more with less, start earlier and finish later without claiming overtime, go without lunch / bathroom breaks, work 24h straight (10h shift, 14h call shift) and still be able to work 10h the following day, being so tired I’m unsafe to drive let alone do my job, not always being there for my children when I want to be.

The top line makes up for all the rest.

AnnDerry · 22/09/2018 21:11

Most: intellectual challenge and fabulous students
Worst: the endless, pointless, brain-numbing admin.

AnnDerry · 22/09/2018 21:12

Least. Not worst. The admin has addled my brain.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 22/09/2018 21:15

Love - meeting and working with different people and the varied nature of my job, great colleagues, feeling that I make a difference

Hate - hearing the same issues being talked about in numerous meetings and nothing changing, reading serious case reviews for children and vulnerable adults about unthinkable details of abuse and not being able to unread or forget.

Alarae · 22/09/2018 21:16

I've just started my job (been in it a week!) and at the moment I absolutely love everything about it.

If I had to pick something, it's all the bloody separate systems they have for everything. It's bordering on ridiculous.
