Keep you dogs out of the cat waiting area

I admit I'm a bit PFB about my cats. But they are very nervous, especially at the vet. My vet has a separate waiting are for cats and dogs. It drives me nuts when people bring their dogs into the cats area. I do not want your yappy dog scaring my poor cat. AngryThe staff are lovely but they don't seem to enforce the separate areas.

I’ve never been to a vet with separate waiting areas for Cats and dogs. I’m sure your Cats will be okay.

Not sure why my phone always capitalises Cat!

TheSpottedZebra · 21/09/2018 17:20

Tell the door owners!
They probably just didn't notice the sign, and they're also probably as worried about your dog as you are about your cat.

TheSpottedZebra · 21/09/2018 17:21

(Dog owners, obvs)

AdoraBell · 21/09/2018 17:23

Is it obviously clear that there are separate areas? I have also never seen a vets waiting room with separate areas.

Mia1415 · 21/09/2018 17:23

My vet strictly enforces the cat only waiting area. Maybe have a word with the vet/ practise manager to ask the receptionist to enforce it.

Sparklingbrook · 21/09/2018 17:23

Our vets has separate areas for dogs and cats to wait. Big signs up. Fortunately it seems to be adhered to.

SomeKnobend · 21/09/2018 17:23

Is this a trans thread? Someone is going to come along in a minute and say I have a trans cat who was assigned a dog at birth but now identifies as a cat. Yanbu if this is about cats but I've never been to a vet with separate areas. Where do you wait with a tortoise?

GrouchyPreggoLady · 21/09/2018 17:24
Biscuit
mum11970 · 21/09/2018 17:25

Where do you go if you have a animal that is neither a dog or a cat? Are you really sure there just isn’t two waiting areas because one just isn’t big enough?

Toddlerteaplease · 21/09/2018 17:25

Cat says she is currently identifying as a beanbag. As that's what she currently looks like. (Abs what a vet nicknamed her)

StripySocksAndDocs · 21/09/2018 17:26

How rubbish op. My vets has a separate area. Not seen anyone bring their dog in. Though you’ll just have to say something either to the dog owners or the staff. Silence will get you no where.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/09/2018 17:28

I may be BU though as I really am not keen on dogs. I don't know. Especially little yappy ones.

My old one had seperate dog, cat and “small animal and exotics” section, just tell the dog owners, did you realise this was the cat section? They might not have noticed the signs

fourpawswhite · 21/09/2018 17:32

Ours has two areas.

Long open area then dog section then cats. I often wonder if it would be better to take dogs to end going by cats or whether it's better to take cats by the dogs.....

Then the important notice and the for sale section is in the cats. I have on occasion if empty carried dog into the cat area with a watchful eye on the far away door to read the notice board and ran back if the door opens. I'm such a rule follower though. I even did this at a Sunday call out when get closed. No cats were in the building just meGrin

RibbonAurora · 21/09/2018 17:33

Our vet here has separate entrances and waiting rooms for cats and dogs too. Definitely tell the people with dogs, OP, they may not have realised if it's not clearly signposted.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 21/09/2018 17:34

My local (very small) vet only had one waiting room. It states that cats must be in carriers and all dogs must be on a very short lead.

kaitlinktm · 21/09/2018 17:46

My current vet (Vets4Pets) has separate cat/dog areas but the previous one (same chain) didn't. One day my cat was completely frantic by the time I took her in due to incessant barking from 2 dogs. Have to say I was a bit miffed when only one of them went into the consulting room and the other stayed out and continued barking (didn't need to see the vet at all). Why didn't they take him out for a walk or something?

HPLikecraft · 21/09/2018 17:51

Cat and dog areas at my vets' too.
It's quite thoughtless not to stick to these rules. I've seen people take dogs into the cats area before because their dog and another dog don't like each other and are misbehaving; but how do they think the poor ill cats feel about this?

Very thoughtless. YANBU.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 21/09/2018 17:52

I was very pleased to find a specialist cats only practice when we moved house. I must admit it had never occurred to me that such places might exist. It has definitely minimised the post-vet visit trauma here.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/09/2018 17:54

I've just put a comment on their Facebook page asking them to e force it. The signs are huge, no chance of missing them!

ALongHardWinter · 21/09/2018 18:03

I've been to a few vets in my time, but I can honestly say that I have never encountered one with a separate dog and cat waiting area!

BluthsFrozenBananas · 21/09/2018 18:07

It can go the other way. My dog is frightened of (and smaller than most) cats, last time we were at the vets someone brought a cat into the dog area which further upset my already upset at being at the vets dog.

diodon · 21/09/2018 18:13

Ours has separate cat/dog waiting areas but the reception/paying desk is in the cat area so you have to keep going in and out with your dog Confused

Celebelly · 21/09/2018 18:22

Yes ours also has separate but reception is in cat area! Luckily my dog maintains a healthy disdain for felines at all times.

When I have to take one of my cats to the vet, he makes such a bloody racket that I doubt anyone would want to sit near him.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/09/2018 18:24

I don't think YABU. I'd speak to your vet and ask them to enforce it. I can't understand why anyone with a dog would sit in the cat area if there's an area for dogs.

That's just weird.
