To ask if anyone can help me find it cheaper?
I know it’s a charity but times are hard at the mo. NT is great for kids but £114 is a lot of money.
I KNOW we used to do 9 months for the price of 12...anyone any ideas pretty please? Cake

If you back with NatWest you can get two months free, but only on whole year payment up front. We couldn't find it any less than £10/month and direct debit is so much easier than coughing up for the whole year so opted for that. I may be wrong but think it's a fixed price....

StoneofDestiny · 20/09/2018 22:40

Joined National Trust for Scotland, it's cheaper with same access to all UK properties.

stillwaitingforhogwartsletter · 20/09/2018 22:41

Thank you han unfortunately not but appreciate your time in helping! I suspect maybe they have reduced their offers as haven’t spotted much recently

Agree w Stone. Join the National Trust for Scotland.

stillwaitingforhogwartsletter · 20/09/2018 22:48

I think I’ve heard that before - does anyone have experience using it in england for car parks rather than houses ?

Nolagerformethanks · 20/09/2018 22:49

I'm sure someone I know joined the New Zealand National Trust which allowed for entry in this country as well? Worth looking into maybe....

BarbarianMum · 20/09/2018 22:50

The nt car parks round here work on an honor system (no enforcement) so it'd be fine in any case.

stillwaitingforhogwartsletter · 20/09/2018 22:51

Wow! Same principle as Scotland I guess!

Daisymay2 · 20/09/2018 22:52

NT are tightening up on car parks in popular places.

Sauvignonblanket · 20/09/2018 22:53

Could you do it through Quidco and at least get cash back? I think they're on it.

stillwaitingforhogwartsletter · 20/09/2018 22:55

I think that might be best I can find sauvignon £8 back on there and topcashback

We live in Scotland and so have Scottish membership but usually come down to England at least once a year to visit friends/family, never had an issue in NT car parks. When I asked somewhere, possibly Avebury, they said as long as our car had a National Trust for Scotland membership sticker it was fine.

5foot5 · 20/09/2018 23:26

PILs were in NT for Scotland (they are English and live in England) and it does work as a reciprocal agreement. Although they didn't get the yearly handbook for England so we used to give them our out of date one when the new one came out. They always claimed they joined Scottish NT instead of English NT as a principled stand against the English NT ban on hunting on it's property. Yeah right.

On a different tack you might get a deal if you go to an event where NT have a stall. DD wanted to join. Young adult membership is about £34 I think. We were at Chatsworth Country Show and came across NT stall and they had a promotion and she got to join for about £28

GeezAJammyPeece · 20/09/2018 23:34

NTS membership is slightly cheaper (£102 annually / £8.50 p/m for family 2adults and up to 6 kids ) there is a reciprocal agreement between many different trusts so you can get free or reduced entry worldwide.

Alternatively, you can get a free £5 m&s gift card with your (English) NT membership here Grin

GeezAJammyPeece · 20/09/2018 23:35

Oh, and yeah. Scottish sticker accepted in English properties car parks.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 20/09/2018 23:36

Sorry to derail the thread but does anyone know if i can bring my mum on my family membership in place of my DH? We have named ourselves and our 3 kids but quite often I do NT properties in school hols and my mum comes along and it seems such a pity to have to pay for her. (Sometimes it can be £17 and we spend most of the time in the bloody adventure playground) we always spend money at the cafe and often in the shop too and we are paying our membership fee so it's not like we are trying to rip anybody off.

notapizzaeater · 20/09/2018 23:37

My mum has asked for this for Christmas - bet she wants the book though 😢

RaininSummer · 20/09/2018 23:39

I have seen a lot of leaflets in sunday papers which give you a fifteen pound nt voucher when you join.

unexpectedtwist · 20/09/2018 23:39

No you can't bring your mum instead of DH as he will be named on the card.

GeezAJammyPeece · 20/09/2018 23:46

The NZ one has cropped up on various deals sites over the years.
I believe there is some debate over whether it can be used for UK parking or not.

Current rates are NZ $95 / just under £50 for family membership.
Remember to opt out of receiving the quarterly members mag, if you don't want to be charged an extra £15.

NannyR · 20/09/2018 23:48

All the NT car parks I've used this year have required you to scan your membership card in the car park ticket machine in order to get a free parking ticket. Car stickers weren't valid in those car parks. If the free parking is important to you I would double check that you are able to use the Scottish NT card in the machine.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 20/09/2018 23:48

Thank you for answering me and also for posting about NZ. I think I will buy the NZ one for my mum as a gift. Wish I had known about that.

GeezAJammyPeece · 20/09/2018 23:50

@gareth why not buy your mum her own membership for birthday/Christmas/mother's Day?
We do this with Historic Scotland membership for PILs on MILs birthday every year. We added kids to it and it means they can take visiting grandkids to all the local castles etc.

GeezAJammyPeece · 20/09/2018 23:51

Haha
Crossposted with you @gareth

NannyR

The Scottish cards weren't scan-able last year, it wasn't an issue though. They have updated the cards this year (at least they look a bit more fancy) but due to my df's death/new baby we haven't been in England to test them.

Last year we did get asked if we lived in Scotland a lot on presenting them (and our Scottish version of English heritage cards) which made me think they are a bit sick of people signing up to the Scottish version though. Neither of us sound particularly Scottish (possibly due to me not being and dh having an Irish dm/going to a "posh" school) but obviously it might have just been curiosity.
