AIBU to hate the term "withdrawal method"?

It's not a method, it's just having unprotected sex and hoping you don't end up with an unplanned pregnancy or the clap.

Yeah but if you’re not that bothered it’s fine 💁‍♀️

ShirleyPhallus · 20/09/2018 22:07

Wikipedia has it at 96% effective for perfect use and 78% effective for typical use. So not great, but probably a good enough method for a stable couple who don't especially want but wouldn't be devastated by a pregnancy.

This exactly for me ^

Hormonal contraception sends me loopy, I didn’t want the coil, neither of us particularly likes condoms.

It works for us. No drama.

ManorGreyhound · 20/09/2018 22:09

The trouble is, the desire for a man to 'finish' inside the woman is incredibly strong, as is (most) women's desire for sex around theme of ovulation (there is a natural spike in testosterone that ensures this)

On paper, both withdrawal and rhythm methods are pretty much 100%, its just the fact that they run contrary to millennia of human evolution that is the problem.

ManorGreyhound · 20/09/2018 22:10

To those of you for whom this works, do you not feel a bit deprived? (for want of a better word?)

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 20/09/2018 22:11

Exactly.

If you're in a stable relationship and wouldn't mind having a baby.

If having a baby would be a problem for you then it's the height of stupidity.

What, at missing out on the undignified waddle to the bathroom with your legs closed so all the jizzum doesn’t leak out over the carpet?!

acquiescence · 20/09/2018 22:27

Worked for us for the last 8 years. Two planned pregnancies in the last 3 years. We really don’t want another right now so I am now planning to get a coil or something else a bit more ‘proper contrsception’.

acquiescence · 20/09/2018 22:28

And nope never felt deprived by not being all sticky.

ItWentDownMyHeartHole · 20/09/2018 22:34

Manor We’ve used this form of contraceptive exclusively for almost 20 years. DH has excellent self control. He says these days it would be weird to not come on my tits...the only two times I asked him to leave it in I got pregnant. He’s good and I’m lucky.

Says it all, doesn't it?

Regularly washed soft hand towel folded in the bedside table. Mop/wipe the surface excess, then sit up or kneel over it while still being on the bed and catch what comes out. Head to bathroom afterwards if desired.

This site badly needs more emojis...

Bleuuuggghhhhhh! Penis beaker mark 2!

maybe I should change my name to ”soft hand towel” there’s definitely a ring to it

I hear this in my head as being said by someone speaking extremely posh and it's given me the proper giggles Grin

OwlinaTree · 20/09/2018 23:08

Box of tissues seems less effort to me!

DilbyGlipob · 20/09/2018 23:08

That's so lovely. I want a regularly washed soft hand towel now instead of a loo roll in the drawer.

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 20/09/2018 23:10

It's a close call but I still think "penis beaker" is the defending champion.

@ShirleyPhallus Bleuuuggghhhhhh!

Could you kindly elaborate on the reasons for your disgust?

@ whereiscaroline

Think of it as Siri or your satnav saying it instead. Even better. :P

Sethis · 20/09/2018 23:12

@OwlinaTree
@DilbyGlipob

Save the environment one jizzum at a time.

ShirleyPhallus · 20/09/2018 23:14

I imagine it being said by Julian, the orange QVC tv host from Bridget Jones Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 20/09/2018 23:15

It’s just so.... unsexy. Kneeling up after sex to wipe yourself with a small towel kept next to the bed for that very purpose?

faeriequeen · 20/09/2018 23:19

I also dislike the term ''fell pregnant". Fell over what?

Also "caught pregnant", like it's an illness.

Both terms I see on threads, often used by people who have used the withdrawal method - and don't like the results

OwlinaTree · 20/09/2018 23:22

sethis your dedication to the environment is admirable. But presumably you lauder the wash cloth, which is also bad for the environment?Grin

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 20/09/2018 23:25

I also dislike the term ''fell pregnant". Fell over what?

Fell onto an erect penis just as the man was about the ejaculate, presumably.

Could happen to anyone.
