To leave AirBnB?

I booked in Monday - Friday and to be honest it’s a bit miserable (work.)

I am considering just booking into a premier inn or travel lodge tonight and cutting my losses. However, I’m worried about a bad review ... does anyone know how it works?

How utterly bizarre! I do Airbnb in my home. No shared bathroom though but if you used my towel by mistake I’d not even mention it, it’s hardly a crime!! I always try to make people welcome. Chat if they wish or leave them to their own devices if they prefer.

tartantweedy · 20/09/2018 16:24

Yes, my mistake was booking in somebody’s home - I won’t do that again!

I know I ‘can’ leave; I suppose I was a bit worried about her leaving me a bad review Blush

Sounds like you felt like a hostage and very uncomfortable. Lesson learnt only stay somewhere more private, however I do think you should have had the courtesy to tell her that you were leaving, seems a bit cowardly.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 20/09/2018 16:47

Someone so incensed over a towel infringement, that they needed to type a side of A4 about it, is probably not temperamentally suited to sharing space in this way. Have seen elements of this with small guest house owners, yes, it's their property, but they seem to forget the are running a business...

tartantweedy · 20/09/2018 16:47

It probably was, but I wasn’t sure on leaving if I was going to leave, if that makes sense!

It was a tiny house - really lovely but very, very small. Too close for comfort!

I am in a hotel Blush

Sounds awful, I'd complain to Airbnb. They're usually pretty good when there's an issue. Sorry if I missed this, but did she have any other reviews?

serbska · 20/09/2018 17:07

I like home stays when traveling on my own. Make the experience more fun and I get to stay somewhere nicer than I could otherwise booking an entire place.

Gerard170 · 20/09/2018 17:21

I never, ever use Airbnb. Too many crackpots rent out their places on there and if you get someone who is just weird you end up with a bad review. I had one place give me a review implying I’d trashed the place because there was a small child’s finger mark of ketchup on a sheet. I had actually taken time stamped pictures of the property when we left so had proof the review wasn’t true and a really bitchy email from the owner which pretty much admitted it too. To be honest I think she thought we were too common to stay in her house and just plain nasty. Airbnb refused to do anything even though we could prove it was untrue. They always seem to side with the letters in disputes as they view them as their customers and the people paying just as the customers of their letters. They seem to take the view that plenty of people want to let but fewer want to let their properties so they treat guests like dirt in disputes. They’re a horrendous company. Never, ever using them again. Awful people.

tartantweedy · 20/09/2018 17:30

serbska I’m not up for fun after a days work - I just want to be left alone Grin

I used to do Airbnb although I've stopped now (son came home!). The worst guests I (n)ever had were 2 girls who cancelled at the last minute, after I'd spent time dusting, hoovering and changing bed linen. They wanted a refund, and when I said no, they sent a message cursing me and saying they hoped the next guest burnt the house down. Shock

How do people make money off renting a room out for £30 a night?
After washing sheets, cleaning, wear and tear, breakfast etc how do people make money off letting out a room for peanuts?

tartantweedy · 20/09/2018 20:53

Well I’ve never been in one that includes breakfast. Just tea and coffee. Many have a two night minimum booking too.

Don't feel bad op. I once booked a guesthouse by mistake and hated it. Made up an excuse to leave and booked into a hotel nearby. If you're not comfortable then why stay longer if you don't have to?

reallybadidea · 20/09/2018 22:28

After washing sheets, cleaning,

Usually there's a cleaning fee on top. £30 a night adds up to almost £11k a year if you're fully booked. You can buy a lot of wear and tear for that.

tartantweedy · 22/09/2018 07:57

How do reviews work? She has written me one but I can’t see it ... I don’t want to be rude about her, it just wasn’t for me.

OP posts:
TulipsInBloom1 · 22/09/2018 08:00

You can only see hers when you write one. Id try and stay neutral.

AJPTaylor · 22/09/2018 08:06

If you are worried, write her a good review. Presumably thats what everyone else has else you wouldnt have booked.
The weight of the world is not on your shoulders. Jusr put something like "pleasant stay at xxxx."

hamandpease · 22/09/2018 08:10

If she's already written one what's the harm in the OP telling the truth?

(Never used air bnb)

hmmwhatatodo · 22/09/2018 08:12

I stayed in an air b&b once and left after about 2 hours. I could see the review left for me before I had responded.

tartantweedy · 22/09/2018 08:14

But how do other people see my reviews, if I can’t? Grin

OP posts:
widgetbeana · 22/09/2018 08:35

You can't see your review until you write her one.

Fabricwitch · 22/09/2018 09:05

You can't see her review until you've we yours. It wasn't always that way, but allows you to write an honest review without worrying about what she will say.

NancyDonahue · 22/09/2018 09:21

I would write 'Nice towels' Wink

mariniere · 22/09/2018 09:27

AJPT - surely a uniquely English approach... Where else would someone have such a bad experience they felt compelled to leave and then write a positive review Grin
I had a bad experience recently and spent time writing the review so it was fair and honest but I did mention the issues I had. Others rely on those reviews so better say nothing that to lie!
