Would I be U to make a gp appointment?

Sorry posting here for traffic as I have only got a short amount of time before the afternoon appointments are released.

I am pretty sure I have a uti. I constantly need to pee and have a dull ache low down on my abdomen. It came on yesterday and I have been trying to treat at home with drinking tons and tons of water. This morning I came over very faint on the school run, and since have felt quite unwell. Just checked my temperature and I have a mild fever.

Would you see the gp or just continue to drink loads and hope it goes on it's own?

have you tried an over the counter cystitis remedy?

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2018 12:46

Go to the GP. UTIs are horrible and it sounds as if you might need something prescribed. Flowers

Stormwhale · 19/09/2018 12:48

Nipers I didn't actually know there was such a thing. I will ask someone to pick one up.

Of course call a go. They will definitely see you. You have a lot of markers for infection. Leaving a UTI is not a good idea. It’s not likely to go away itself.
If you have a fever then it’s because your body is fighting an infection. Likely a urine one, which can spread to your kidneys without antibiotics

sourpatchkid · 19/09/2018 12:49

Go to the GP- that's what they're there for!

Singingitoverandoverandover · 19/09/2018 12:49

*GP

pigsDOfly · 19/09/2018 12:49

Make an appointment with your GP. You could go on drinking water all you like but if you've got an infection it needs treatment.

That's what your GP is for.

ShirleyPhallus · 19/09/2018 12:49

Why would this make you unreasonable? Of course go!

Merryoldgoat · 19/09/2018 12:50

Dr if you have fever with those symptoms.

ThatFridayFeeling · 19/09/2018 12:50

See your GP

Quartz2208 · 19/09/2018 12:51

Ring the GP. Its likely that they can take a sample test it and give antibiotics without needing an official appointment. it will be quick and easy.

Unlike if you left a UTI untreated with can lead to serious complications (including mimicking a stroke)

Stormwhale · 19/09/2018 12:53

I just didn't want to take up an appointment if it would resolve itself. I have had mild ones before that have just gone with plenty of water and a bit of rest, but I have never had a fever with it or felt this rough. Also I hate antibiotics as I get thrush so avoid them at all costs. I feel pretty blooming rough though.

Afternoon appointments open at 1.30 so I will give them a call.

Take a urine sample with you if you can. Save having to do it there under pressure.

Lollyice · 19/09/2018 12:58

I had one last week. Take a urine sample with you. I always ask for a prescription for thrush treatment too although didn't get thrush this time.
Get well soon.

HippyChickMama · 19/09/2018 13:00

If you can't get an appointment with the GP you could see the practice nurse, lots of practice nurses are prescribers now and if your urine test shows a UTI they will be able to prescribe first line antibiotics. If you can't get an appointment at all you could go to a walk in centre.

tessiegirl · 19/09/2018 13:01

I would definitely go to the go with a uti sample op. Utis are bloody horrible Sad

Heratnumber7 · 19/09/2018 13:27

I think I'd start with seeing a pharmacist. They will tell you if you need a gp

Stormwhale · 19/09/2018 13:47

I called and asked if there was a way I could get a sample tested without taking up an appointment and they said yes no problem. I have dropped one in and the nurse is going to call me in a little while. Thanks for the advice, i just didn't want to waste their time so I'm happy with this as a compromise!

If anyone has any tips to make this less awful I'm all ears! I'm drinking so much water that my pee is nearly clear in the hope of flushing it through. I just wish I didn't feel so rough.

Just make an appointment for your GP. Don't even bother with the pharmacist.

QuestionableMouse · 19/09/2018 13:53

Nurse practitioner would probably also be able to help. Ours are fab for utis.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/09/2018 14:08

storm

I tried baking soda in water...i think it was a teaspoon in a pint

It didnt cure it...the antibiotics did that. But it did give me some relief, a surprising amount to be fair

Tasted gross though

alifromtheforest · 19/09/2018 14:09

I am off to my GP now for exactly the same thing..... the pain is horrendous so you have my sympathy!!!!

Charm23 · 19/09/2018 14:19

Just wanted to say, please be aware of drinking too much water which can cause dangerous low sodium levels. Hope you feel better soon.

Stormwhale · 19/09/2018 18:25

Well thank you for all the advice. It turns out I was wrong, it's not an infection, but the glucose is high. Not sure what to make of that, but I have got to see the gp on Friday after taking a pregnancy test to talk it over. Still needing to wee all the time, sore tummy and feeling rough so not quite sure what to think.

tessiegirl · 19/09/2018 18:43

Could you be pregnant then op?
