People who ask to "jump in" when you're on a machine in the gym

Does anyone else find this annoying and inconsiderate?
I have had two guys earlier ask me if they can use the machine whilst I am resting so that means I will have to wait for both of them to finish their reps.

It just disturbs people exercises I understand if I was using the machine for over 10 minutes but I'm doing 50 reps

Why cant people wait? Its rude and annoying I would never ask someone who was before me to disturb their workout for me. I would just go on something else.

YADNBU Op Angry

Forever having men loiter near me using machines staring menacingly. Wait your turn!

Also pissed me off the other day a group of lads were using the mat area to take turns doing one deadlift each with a few 20kg plates on each side of a pretty heavy bar. And instead of putting it all away afterwards they just left it! So when a woman wanted to use the bar she was struggling to take the weights back off for ages (I darted over to help).

Some people are just so selfish Angry

It’s completely normal to work in sets with another person at the gym. As long as they are asking politely YABU to refuse.

hangrymoo · 19/09/2018 21:25

But if your tests are shorter than the other persons reps you end up having to wait for them to finish their set for however long...

It's always men asking women (never men asking men or women asking women) in my experience. A firm no is in order.

I'm a woman and i've asked both men and women.

This sort of thing is the main reason I quit going to the gym. I had an exercise plan and I did enjoy it but the constant hogging of particular machines/ intimidation tactics etc put me off. The pec machine in particular was really difficult to get a shot. The weights corner was always full of the same group of loud men no matter what time or day I went and I felt really uncomfortable and unwelcome every time I ventured over.

I’m a man and always get asked by people if they can work in with me when I’m in the gym at busy times, such as early evening. It’s a perfectly reasonable request when you’re on your own and using a popular bit of equipment, such as the squat rack.
