DD is 12 just gone into year 8. She is so shy she won't even ask for a bill in a restaurant and it was year 5 before she would even ask a question in class.... but she desperately wanted to be in school play. she went for auditions in year 6 and 7 but told me it was so difficult for her she froze and run out of both in tears.

Last night she came home and told me that shes auditioned and got a decent speaking part. Not a main character ( they went to 6th form) but a lovely humourous character part. I didn't even know auditions were on. Now I've just had an email from her drama teacher saying how pleased he is with and how hard shes worked to improve her confidence and acting over the last year

I actually went an had a private sob I am so proud of her..

sorry I know I'm boasting but just so happy for her

If youve got a really shy child theres hope yet

That’s so lovely! Well done to your DD!

@listsandbudgets that's great, good on your dd. DS (11) is very anxious, has SEN and usually quiet shy but he got a speaking part in his year 6 leaver play last year that also required doing an accent for some of his monologue. He did fantastically and even got an extra round of applause! Best of luck to your dd!

Good for her Smile. It’s lovely to see the quiet ones coming out of their shell. The only way is up!

I love stories like this! Such a small thing for some but huge achievement for her xxx

Things like this are what makes life worth living for most of us - seeing our children overcome difficulties, find their confidence and fulfil their potential. What could be more important really? I completely empathise with your joy, OP!

YAAY! A huge round of applause to minilists and Flowers for the proud mum!

I would be so proud, too! Such grit. She will go far in life.

That's amazing. Well done her!

Drama has brought my DD out of herself as well. It's taken a long long time. It's such an underrated subject as often considered "easy"or "a skive" (it really isn't either) She wants to choose it for GCSE despite being sure she won't ever use it past that. I told her to crack on. It's an amazing confidence boost if they take to it.
