DD is 12 just gone into year 8. She is so shy she won't even ask for a bill in a restaurant and it was year 5 before she would even ask a question in class.... but she desperately wanted to be in school play. she went for auditions in year 6 and 7 but told me it was so difficult for her she froze and run out of both in tears.

Last night she came home and told me that shes auditioned and got a decent speaking part. Not a main character ( they went to 6th form) but a lovely humourous character part. I didn't even know auditions were on. Now I've just had an email from her drama teacher saying how pleased he is with and how hard shes worked to improve her confidence and acting over the last year

I actually went an had a private sob I am so proud of her..

sorry I know I'm boasting but just so happy for her

If youve got a really shy child theres hope yet

Well done to your DD, you be proud and burst just a little bit x

tinytemper66 · 18/09/2018 11:36

Aw how lovely! Good for her! 👍😊

MumW · 18/09/2018 11:38

AIBU is a fine place to put it, and, of course, YANBU. It can sometimes be very difficult to say in RL how proud you are without feeling that you are boasting.
Well done DD.
Thanks for sharing.

Mumsneck · 18/09/2018 11:39

YADNBU. Well done to her! and have a good old happy sob.

trulybadlydeeply · 18/09/2018 11:44

Thank you OP, you've given a lot of people a great deal of fun this morning, though sadly we weren't exactly helpful Grin

Do stick around though, I'm liking your style.

trulybadlydeeply · 18/09/2018 11:46

Whoops, completely the wrong thread, I do apologise.

Well done to your DD though

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/09/2018 12:02

That's wonderful news, OP, and all the better that she had the confidence to take the initiative and audition all by herself, without telling anyone. This is a massive development for her and you must be so surprised and happy. Smile

CatRen27 · 18/09/2018 12:07

That's amazing!! I can see why you're so proud, bless her for doing this all on her own too. Best of luck for rehearsals and hope she really enjoys performing. 😊

MrsExpo · 18/09/2018 12:16

Aww that's brilliant! Well done to your daughter, what a great achievement.

Gilead · 18/09/2018 12:45

That's lovely, congratulations and well done!

JaneJeffer · 18/09/2018 13:27

Well done her! I'm a shy person but I always loved doing plays at school. I think acting gives you an escape from being yourself for a little while.

WildCherryBlossom · 18/09/2018 13:37

@JaneJeffer you are so right. Acting is very good for shy people. A lot of professional actors are actually very shy but feel more confident when they are playing a role. One of my children is very shy and was stunned (and initially anxious) on being given a lead role in a play recently. But loved the experience and is very keen to do more.

Mamadothehump · 18/09/2018 13:40

That's lovely! You should be proud!! It's actually brought a little tear to my eye! Mind you, I am due on any second!!!
