To let their tyres down if they keep doing this! (It’s a parking one)

My neighbours have two cars. A small hatchback and a Mercedes the size of a London bus.
They park the hatchback on their drive and the Mercedes over the drive but because of thenslightly odd layout of the road, they can’t park the Mercedes any further forward, meaning about a foot of the back of it is ALWAYS over my driveway. Just had another morning where I’ve had to spend 5 mins awkwardly manoeuvring out of the space. When I mentioned to them before they were apologetic but totally reluctant to park on the street all of 20 paces away.
Nor will
They swap which cars are on the drive as the merc is ancient and the one on the drive is worth a lot more.

I’m getting a bit fucking sick of it.
AIBU to let the nerd tyres down next time it happens Angry

Don’t inconvenience yourself, inconvenience them.

Go and ring on their doorbell and tell them to love their car so you can get off your drive. Do this at really annoying times.

JamPasty · 18/09/2018 08:27

Knock on their door and ask them to move it, every single time and no matter the hour

Chocolatecake12 · 18/09/2018 08:30

Cannot possibly comment without a diagram as per mumsnet rules on parking threads!

jenthelibrarian · 18/09/2018 08:35

Diagram demand seconded!
Can't you wait till the Merc is moved, then park yours so it's on the bit of drive they usually overhang? IYSWIM.

eurochick · 18/09/2018 08:36

I agree with knocking every time to get them to move it.

Cuttingthegrass · 18/09/2018 08:37

Yup ask them to move every time

LyndorCake · 18/09/2018 08:38

I agree. Ask them to move every time you need to get on or off your drive.

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/09/2018 08:39

Agree with everyone who is saying you need to ask them to move every time.

BigBlueBubble · 18/09/2018 08:41

Knock repeatedly at silly o’clock to ask them to move. I mean like 3am because you woke up and fancy going to the McDonald’s drive through. Do it repeatedly. Call the police if they refuse to move as it’s an offence to block you from accessing the public highway.

DailyMailWankers · 18/09/2018 08:42

Get them to move it every time.

Start parking over your drive in bit where they usually park.

Call the council and get them a ticket.

BasinHaircut · 18/09/2018 08:43

My neighbours do this. Knock every time, it’s the only way.

AmayaBuzzbee · 18/09/2018 08:46

Could you park across your driveway for a while so that they won’t have space to park across theirs? Remember to hang a foot over theirs too.

BMW6 · 18/09/2018 08:46

Stop parking on your drive - park it where they usually park their Merc so they are inconvenienced........

YeTalkShiteHen · 18/09/2018 08:47

Every single time you need to move your car, knock on their door and ask them to move it.

It’s an offence to prevent egress from a driveway (but not to block an empty driveway).

They’re being dicks.

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 18/09/2018 08:48

Post their car on parklikeatwat where other twats are shamed.

Uncreative · 18/09/2018 08:54

Hmmm, when I read things like this, I am grateful I have an old banger with numerous scratches (I accept blame for the hub caps but the rest were a previous owner). If my bumper were to scratch their car, I wouldn’t notice.

Does anyone know how that would affect my insurance or theirs, particularly if they parked in such a way as to partially block my driveway?

Oysterbabe · 18/09/2018 08:55

Agree, knock and make them move.
Or for a few months park blocking your drive rather than on it, making sure you go right up to your boundary so they can't fit their car in.

Juells · 18/09/2018 08:55

Post their car on parklikeatwat

😂

Off to google that

Nanny0gg · 18/09/2018 08:57

Ask them to move it. Every. Time.

StepBackNow · 18/09/2018 09:00

Yup. Get them to move it every single time.

Iloveacurry · 18/09/2018 09:02

Knock every time or park across your driveway so they can’t park there.

purplegreen99 · 18/09/2018 09:03

Ring your local council and find out if you can register your dropped kerb. In our area if you do this they give you a phone number you can ring any time a car is parked over your drive (even if it's just the bumper over the edge of the slope) and they send someone round on a motorbike to ticket the car.

Mugglemom · 18/09/2018 09:07

Yes. You're not being unreasonable to be upset about it, but I hope the letting the tyres down is just a joke to let off steam, because that would be over the line.

Fluffyears · 18/09/2018 09:09

@uncreative I believe you are at fault even if they are parked illegally. My dad hit a car parked on double yellows, the lines were there as parking would be dangerous due to the risk of being hit. He was liable as the fault lies with the person who runs into ‘something’.

Terribletwos84 · 18/09/2018 09:09

It sounds our situation! We can have up to three cars surrounding a corner in a cul de sac and it blocks us most of the time. It's ridiculous that we have to edge in slowly but my other half doesn't want to say anything as they have lived here for about twenty years longer than us.
