To let their tyres down if they keep doing this! (It’s a parking one)

My neighbours have two cars. A small hatchback and a Mercedes the size of a London bus.
They park the hatchback on their drive and the Mercedes over the drive but because of thenslightly odd layout of the road, they can’t park the Mercedes any further forward, meaning about a foot of the back of it is ALWAYS over my driveway. Just had another morning where I’ve had to spend 5 mins awkwardly manoeuvring out of the space. When I mentioned to them before they were apologetic but totally reluctant to park on the street all of 20 paces away.
Nor will
They swap which cars are on the drive as the merc is ancient and the one on the drive is worth a lot more.

I’m getting a bit fucking sick of it.
AIBU to let the nerd tyres down next time it happens Angry

I agree with PP. Every time you have to pull out ring their door bell to move their car out of your way.

Uncreative · 18/09/2018 09:11

Thank you @Fluffyears. That does seem sensible although a shame for the OP.

veggiethrower · 18/09/2018 09:14

Ridiculous.
As others have said, go round every time and insist on them moving it.
You're taking ages to get out of the drive when the car is there anyway.
They probably don't realize how damn annoying it it so make them realize.

starfish8 · 18/09/2018 09:23

I have this sometimes, and I knock every time to get them to move it. I keep on mentioning I'm a bad driver, and 'I'd hate to crash into the back of your car.' Aside from fault, no one wants their car being hit.

Alternatively, you start parking in the space on the road whenever it's free.

lljkk · 18/09/2018 09:24

Plan A: Every single time you need to move your car, knock on their door and ask them to move it

That^^ !
I imagine a hassle, but if you always plan for the extra 5 minutes to do it, they soon will find a better place for their bus and save you much more hassle in long run.

Plan B if A doesn't work after 1 month: take the Merc's on road spot every time you can.

Knock on the door and ask them to get YOUR car out.

I agree with above! Leave the house 15 minutes earlier so you have time to make them move!

ApolloandDaphne · 18/09/2018 09:36

I reckon parking where they park the merc then letting it overhang their drive a bit might drive the message home.

lastqueenofscotland · 18/09/2018 09:42

Of course letting their tyres down was a joke.

Could you put a fence up? to separate the driveways? then they have to keep to their side.

TheSerenDipitY · 18/09/2018 09:54

as others have suggested
Knock Knock
You need to move your car NOW please :)
No not in a min NOW please :|
Each and every time
dont wait for reasonable oclock, do it when you need to get out.... not your problem if they are in the shower or having their morning dump, make it as annoying as possible for them to inconvenience you and they will soon get tired of you knocking and start parking in a better place

TheSerenDipitY · 18/09/2018 09:56

btw......

Knock on their door every single time. They will get sick of it and move it.

INeedNewShoes · 18/09/2018 10:00

Yep, I agree with pp. The only way forward is knock on their door every time you want to go anywhere. They'll get fed up eventually.

The only neighbour disagreement I've had has been about precisely this. Daft woman a few doors down kept parking partially over my driveway. She was really unpleasant when I went to ask her nicely to stop doing it but at least she did stop.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/09/2018 10:01

I shouldhopeso!

The correct etiquette is to slash them.

trulybadlydeeply · 18/09/2018 10:03

YABincrediblyU for not following the rules and posting a diagram.

However, I would also park my car at the end of my driveway so that they couldn't park theirs there, and tell them you have parked like that otherwise it takes you several minutes to manoeuvre out of your own driveway. Presuming of course that you are in an they are out at suitable times.

ShalomJackie · 18/09/2018 10:03

She can't park where the merc is as they are blocking their own drive but overhanging hers.

The keep knocking thing is the way forward. They will soon tire of it. Hold your nerve!

StealthNinjaMum · 18/09/2018 10:16

Is it their car parked over the driveway or the wheels? I had the situation where people used to park over the double yellow lines in front of my driveway making it hard for me to get out. The council would give them a ticket if the wheels were in an illegal position i.e. over the double yellow lines in front of my drive. It was really frustrating as sometimes a massive tank like car or van would legally park but 3 feet of vehicle would hang over the drive and make visibility impossible even though they were legally parked.

shamalamalam · 18/09/2018 10:25

Our neighbours used to do this - they’d park in the space between our drives, but it wasn’t quite wide enough so it overhung our drive by a couple of feet. They didn’t overhang their own drive though as it “made it too difficult to get off the drive”

A week of DH knocking at 5am to get them to move their car when he left for work put a stop to it

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/09/2018 10:35

Could you park where they park the merc?

Glaciferous · 18/09/2018 11:09

If you have a dropped kerb, you can just notify the council every time they do it and they should get a succession of expensive tickets.

Fadingmemory · 18/09/2018 11:18

Agree that you should knock every time, day or night. Don’t say, ‘Your car is in my way,’ but say, ‘I am concerned not to get too close to your lovely, valued Merc,’ while crossing your fingers.

BlackeyedSusan · 18/09/2018 11:31

our council is shortly to lose the moped driver. due to him getting in an accident with his stupid driving as he nearly got himself killed yesterday

the moped driver goes round ticketing the cars in residents only parking.
