when used as the caption of a picture of my DH and siblings, posted by his sister?

Or should I lighten up?

Is she 13?!

MenaMecca · 18/09/2018 06:54

No, she's 37.

No, she's older than me - she's 37.

Embarrassing to be speaking like that at 37!

Twotailed · 18/09/2018 06:57

Are you offended because of the implication that you’re a ‘ho’ or because the caption is excluding you?

Either way while it’s not something I would say of my SIL in case she felt left out or insulted, I would assume it’s meant to be a lighthearted joke rather than an attempt to insult. Unless it’s part of an overall pattern of rudeness I would let it go.

MaisyPops · 18/09/2018 06:59

Not so much offensive but bizarre and childish at 37 when your brother is married.

Bros before hos has always been (to me anyway) the sort of stupid thing lads say in their teens and early 20s to mean 'don't ditch your mates for a woman'. I don't get what she's trying to achieve (maybe a poor attempt to be funny).

SnuggyBuggy · 18/09/2018 07:00

I thought the term referred to male friends

ADarkandStormyKnight · 18/09/2018 07:03

In other contexts I might raise an eyebrow but they are siblings and entitled to a few childish and inappropriate in-jokes. Lighten up!

RavenWings · 18/09/2018 07:06

Lighten up. It's a tongue in cheek caption, it's not important.

ProcrastinatingPingu · 18/09/2018 07:10

Had she chosen her brother over these ‘Hos’? I’d ask DH which ‘hos’ she’s had to put her brother before.
She’s not his brother so I’d assume she means they’d be her actions.

Either that if she’s just being a child, and doesn’t understand the saying is something said by ‘lads lads lads’ when competing over a woman.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 18/09/2018 07:15

Nah, lighten up unless there's a back story.

Me and my brother can get really childish when we get together, specially if we're meeting up with parents too - it's like we revert to childhood! We're both in our 40s Hmm

Tbh DH is the same with his siblings - they're all in their 50s...

And my dad is the same with his sister - mid 70s, early 80s.

So sue us! Grin

MenaMecca · 18/09/2018 07:15

She's probably just trying to be cute, but this is the stereotypical evil SIL lol.

OP posts:
MenaMecca · 18/09/2018 07:16

Oh, and she's not close with my DH.

Depends on how you feel about designating women (yourself?) as prostitutes, I guess.

00100001 · 18/09/2018 07:17

Chicks before dicks!!!

whiskeysourpuss · 18/09/2018 07:21

Meh I couldn't get worked up about this... when my last single cousin got into a relationship I sent her a Snapchat which said 🐥 (chicks) before 🍆 (dicks) & I'm 39... it was a joke.

MaisyPops · 18/09/2018 07:24

whiskeysourpuss
That's quite good Smile
That makes sense as a jokey text, new relationship, joke between 2 people.

Family photo on social media with bros before hos when the brother is married is weird.

Yeah it was posted on Facebook.

It took me a while to work out what it was meant to be saying. I don’t think anyone actually speaks like this unless they’re from a Harlem ghetto.

Aria2015 · 18/09/2018 07:34

It's imaturenand a bit cringe but I'm not offended my it. It's just a stupid tag line really. A more crass line than the equivalent ’girls before guys’.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 18/09/2018 07:41

What does it matter if he's married? Siblings were siblings long before partners and wives came along.

QueenOfMyWorld · 18/09/2018 07:49

People just say because it rhymes same as chicks before dicks

Juells · 18/09/2018 07:54

Sometimes you just have to accept that some people have air in their heads 😁

MaisyPops · 18/09/2018 07:55

ADarkandStormyKnight
Yes, but it's still weird to captions photo suggesting your brother's wife is a ho.

As a stupid thing to say when someone gets a new girlfriend, fair enough (but still more derogatory than chicks before dicks). To share it once someone's been married a while seem weird. Surely it's obvious they have siblings? It strikes me as either a poor attempt at humour or being a bit 'we were here first'.

EggysMom · 18/09/2018 08:00

I'd post a good photo of DH and yourself with the caption "Friends are the family we choose for ourselves" Grin
