To ask which Patisserie Valerie celebration cake I should get?

Birthday coming up. Want a cake from patisserie Valerie after admiring them in the window of the one in local city centre for a while.

I do like their individual classes cakes, though I’m aware hey aren’t as good as they were 5 years ago.

Has anyone bought one and would recommend a flavour?

Cake expert here!! I tried the patisserie valerie black forest gateaux and I'm sorry to say it was the nastiest thing ever!!
YY to konditor and cook!!
Also hummingbird bakery in soho do such a fantastic chocolate and raspberry cake - it really is one of the best cakes I've ever had!!!

Patisserie Valerie cakes are really disappointing. Never as nice as they look. Chocolate always tastes a bit plasticky. I third Konditor and Cook.

I had the strawberry one (it cost ££££££ for a tiny slice) and it tasted like the the Morrison’s huge one that are only £2

TomHardysNextWife · 17/09/2018 20:06

They look gorgeous OP but taste awful. I've never been so disappointed in my life after coveting them through the window for ages. It was dry, tasteless and very very expensive. We got 4 different slices for £10 and I could have made my own huge cake for that amount that would have been edible.

Waitrose do very good cakes to order, as do M & S if you don't want the expense of a local baker.

Konditor and Cook are lovely.
But they don’t do the creamy gateaux type patisserie cakes, do they?

I used to go to the original PV in Soho decades ago. Totally different.

Durban is a word 😄 It’s a city. I don’t know about those cakes but I’m looking forward to Bake Off tomorrow and I’m currently eating choc chip oaty biscuits, from the Hairy Bikers diet book. Delicious!

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 17/09/2018 20:16

Was that helpful OP? 😂

But seriously another one saying Pat Val cakes are bland, sickly and hugely disappointing!

DorasBob · 17/09/2018 20:20

Very helpful cakecrumbs Grin

The Waitrose and m&s one’s look good, just can’t find anything stuffed with cream!

Not in London so cant go to the London ones mentioned sobs

Oh I see PP have already got there before me! Blush

serendipitintea · 17/09/2018 20:23

I used to work for PV and it's all overpriced for what it is. They do look beautiful but don't taste anywhere near as good.

If I had to pick it would be the Strawberry gateaux. I'm not a fan of fresh strawberries in general but the cake and cream inside are really light and lovely. Fresh cream though so doesn't last long and can also become a bit mushy because of the fruit.

Cortina is nice, the white outside isn't great but the cake inside is tasty.

The double chocolate Gateux looks the part but I always found it pretty dry.

colouringinpro · 17/09/2018 20:23

Great minds Ethel

MaryShelley1818 · 17/09/2018 20:25

Absolutely awful cakes....first time I’ve ever left cake in my life!
So disappointing 🙁
