To not fix DS's dented car?

DS parked his car on the wrong bit, he has the back driveway but parked it in DH's spot as he thought he'd be back out before DH got home. DH came home, obviously thinking it was empty and as he reverses in, he doesn't particularly see what's there as it's really tucked away. He reversed on and boom, hit DS's car. There's quite a bad dent in it. Have been quoted £450 to fix. We don't particularly have the spare money and would have to 'find it'. DS has a few thousand in savings and DH thinks he should pay for it if he cares enough about the dent because of the way it happened.

After opinions please and thanks for reading.

What should have happened is DH reverses in, properly, and thus sees there is a car in his space. He recognises it as DS’s car, parks where he can, goes in and asks DS not to park in his space.

End of incident.

If it had been a visitor in his space, would he have expected you to ring him and warn him?!

I thought this was going to be about a bratty entitled teen who didn't want to damage his reputation driving about in a dented car of his own making!

But I see I was half right....bratty entitled husband instead!

Your DH should obviously pay. Stop making excuses for him. And yes, someone could've been stood there. Your sons car was there so presumably he was at some point too? He could've killed your son.

Also interesting after the thread about reversing in being apparently much safer??!!! Had he driven in he would've seen the car!

Well yes. It is provided you do it properly. Reversing in isn’t a dispensation to not bother looking.

Had OP’s DH looked, he would have safely reversed in.

JacquesHammer It is much safer, as long as the driver isn’t careless and actually looks where they are going.

You should obey the rules of the road and watch what’s going on whatever manoeuvre you’re doing.

Apologies, that last message was to Sparklyfee, not JacquesHammer.
