to call boys in sick on friday when we go on holiday?

I've been meaning to ask the school receptionist but I've been really busy in work and DH has been doing pick ups and drop off's for our DS1 (13) and DS2 (11).

We're going away for the weekend on Friday and I haven't taken the boys out from school before but they will need the day off as we are going first thing.

Not sure what the procedure is - presumably I need to ask the school permission to have the day off? It seems a bit of a faff - I think it may be easier to call them in sick?

Is it really that important to ask permission? Anyone else just called them in sick for 1 day off?

ASauvignon

Nothing has been formalised - he was told by his head of year on Friday that he was 'temporarily excluded' - there was no specific days.

The reason is he was accused of putting chalk on another students blazer (which he denies), but DS got upset at being blamed and and stormed out of the class.

DH collected him earlier that day anyway as he had a medical appointment. Receptionist told him (DH) that the head of year will call to discuss DS with a view to having a meeting about possible return to school.

We were expecting a call Friday afternoon (it happened late morning) but we have heard nothing so we just assume he is not allowed to go to school until we get a call to discuss / and or have a meeting.

If we don't hear anything by about 2pm tomorrow we will certainly call the school to see what is going on.

Don’t call in sick. At my teen dc’s schools (different) if you call in sick then at some point during the day the form tutor will call to check how they’re doing. It’s done (with us- generally 99/100% attendance) in a chatty way, but The underlying message is “be back ASAP”. They also expect the child to then contact the teachers of lessons missed to find out what they need to do the catch up.

The thing being, if you call in sick and then are uncontactable because on holiday, the school will definitely know what’s going on.

Op I have done this on multiple occasions. My kids miss about two Fridays in a school year. Saves me a fortune and makes fuck all difference to anything in the long run (attendance excellent overall) Of course they talk about their break at Alton towers, Euro Disney, chessington, center Parcs etc when they get back to school but that always started the Saturday after the Friday illness Wink

ninemillion lol yes you are right - when you look at the bigger picture, it really doesn't matter.

I have decided I am not going to call them in sick I am going to tell school the truth - we are going to Center Parcs.

I just don't want them (the teachers) saying something like - "oh that's nice - have you had authorisation from the head?" at which point I'll go "Oh um not really lol"
