I eat three takeaways a week...

Mid 30s. No children. I live with My DP.

I have a stressful job with a lot of responsibility, i work 9 to 5 but I’m exhausted when I finish and just don’t want to cook. I cycle to and from work (20 mile round trip) and run 3 times a week.

This came up just now in conversation and my friend was just shocked and I’d go as far as to say appalled.

IABU?

(The takeaways are usually dim sum/Thai food)

If you can afford it why not?

BlueJava · 15/09/2018 21:00

Not unreasonable as you're doing a lot of exercise. Try and make healthy choices but it's fine imo.

I'd get quite bored, I'd have the choice of pizza or Chinese round here.

No problem at all it's none of her business. Can eat healthily from take away especially if you have deliveroo

If you can afford it easily then fine if not there's ways you can have quick dinners for cheaper....

lastqueenofscotland · 15/09/2018 21:03

I’d be shitting myself about calories/fat content but then I’ve had an ED since my teens...

mrsm43s · 15/09/2018 21:03

I totally want to eat 3 takeaways a week.

Sadly I can't because a) money and b) I'm a lardyarse already, so just can't eat like that, I'd be putting on loads of (very much unneeded) extra weight.

But if you can afford it, and can keep a sensible weight and balanced diet, then go for it. Worth keeping an eye on your salt intake, though.

Now that is my kind of AMA

Well, having been through a similar situation really, I’d say your life balance is a bit off. I could have written your post a few weeks ago. I was exhausting myself by exercising more than I could cope with and then eating badly because I was too tired, thereby cancelling out the hard work. I’ve taken the pressure off on the exercise, so now yoga and some weights at home instead of lots of running) and now I have the energy to cook in the evening. Plus I’ve drafted up 4 weeks of meal plans, plugged each week into Ocado as Weeks worth of deliveries on a list, and then every Friday I just add the right list for that week, and we’ve got everything we need for a week of simple quick meals. I honestly feel much better as a result.

Bluecloudyskies · 15/09/2018 21:07

I could eat a take away every night. But we get fat. Sad

Dh has just gone for an Indian and we had chinease last night Blush

Fairylea · 15/09/2018 21:08

I used to live like this in my 20s but nearer to 40 I have to be more careful about what I eat from a calorie and health perspective. If I ate 3 takeaways a week I’d be worried I’d be 22 stone and have a heart attack from all the saturated fat.... but that’s me, and I’m a worrier! If you’re happy go for it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/09/2018 21:09

Assuming this is a stealth brag about living somewhere with access to such amazing takeaways Grin

Won’t someone spare a thought for those of us who live in the sticks and don’t *sobs

HundredMilesAnHour · 15/09/2018 21:12

I don't think there's anything wrong with that unless it's always really unhealthy choices (which Thai/dim sum isn't).

I used to live overseas and it was quite normal to eat all 3 meals out every day. People didn't really cook at home. That habit has sort of stayed with me.

As an alternative, you could look at using a meal prep company occasionally. I use them for during the week when I'm too busy to even think about food shopping let alone cooking. They're a godsend. And healthy too.

MaisyPops · 15/09/2018 21:12

I'd be conscious of the salt and fat levels in most takeaways and would also think it was a tad lazy, but each to their own.

The main thing is I wouldn't say anything if someone said it in conversation because it's a bit of an arsey thing to say to someone.

Botanicbaby · 15/09/2018 21:31

Never mind the expense it just doesn’t sound very healthy. I’d get sick of them after a while and long for something home-made. It’s the sort of thing I did in my early 20s. But it’s your life! YANBU.

SneakyGremlins · 15/09/2018 21:32

I live above a takeaway and am fed up of the smells.

It's great for weight loss.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 15/09/2018 21:33

If it works for you, stick with it!

What about Cook ready meals? They have some you can microwave straight from frozen.

lljkk · 15/09/2018 21:33

High salt, would be my concern. Followed by waste of money & usually not much veg.

BettyCrook · 15/09/2018 21:33

I would too if i wouldn't get weight .. sadly i get fat by looking at a cake it seems.

Petalflowers · 15/09/2018 21:34

Can you do some batch cooking and freeze them. Then all you have to do is have one defrosting whilst you are at work. A lot cheaper and healthier.

PigletJohn · 15/09/2018 21:36

takeaways do tend to be high in fat and salt. It would be no more expensive to keep a bunch of microwave meals, which, selected with care, can be more balanced and very quick to get ready. If you can't be bothered cooking when you get in, that will be even quicker than calling in at the takeaway, or having stuff delivered.

You won't be able to impress people as a kitchen goddess, though.

Elementally · 15/09/2018 21:41

Sounds more like Deliveroo type food. No one would care if you said you ate out in restaurants 3 times a week. In fact you'd be quite aspirational. It's the term 'takeaway' that makes your eating sound lazy and unhealthy.

SugarGrill · 15/09/2018 21:45

Ok...AMA

Are you on first name terms with tej delivery guy? Do you tip him 3 nights a week?
