I'm on holiday and we're currently eating dinner in a beautiful garden restaurant...not too expensive... lovely staff..

Just popped to the loo and saw this in the ladies. What a lovely idea! It never occurred to me that establishments could offer sanpro on the house!

Smashing attitude Smile

Don't wanna be that person but I can just imagine the world if men had periods..

If men had periods, they'd bear the children, and then it would be a female oriented world.

I've seen this in quite a few places and it's brilliant.

RoboticSealpup · 15/09/2018 19:17

It's brilliant. It would really cheer me up to see that.

StopPOP · 15/09/2018 19:18

Oh yes. There's a darling restaurant we go to in Corfu (The Rose Garden) that provides this. Came in very handy this year when my peri menopausal body decided to chuck another sodding period at me 11 days after the last one Angry

Witchend · 15/09/2018 19:18

It's weird isn't it - no-one steals loo roll from public toilets
Actually people sometimes do. We assume if someone does that they really need it though at my place of work.

TheHatOfDoom · 15/09/2018 19:27

Can I ask all the people who know/work in places who do this if they have similar in the disabled loo? I use a wheelchair and have had to go into the ladies a few times to raid the vending machine. It’s awkward as invariably someone tries to stop me going in.

Of couse some disabled loos in some small venues don’t even have bins which is even worse.

GimbleInTheWabe · 15/09/2018 19:33

I wfh so can't answer your main Question @TheHatOfDoom but that is really shit and an oversight for sure.
If I ever see this in a venue though I'll be sure to commend them and then ask if there is similar available in the accessible bathroom and, if they say no, tell them to bloody well do it!

seastargirl · 15/09/2018 19:36

Not quite as beautifully presented, but this is our towns football teams toilets.

They have tonnes of community events there too, so it benefits loads of people. I tend to add to it, if I've had product replacement on my food shop and it's my none preferred brand, I'll just pop it on the hand drier when I next visit!

Yes. I was in a restaurant recently and caught short. There was no dispenser in the loos. We were in a shopping/restaurant type complex and I went into several other restaurants’ toilets, nothing. Finally found a dispenser in the cinema, tried both sides but it just didn’t work. I think maybe only took old pound coins? Could not break into the bastard either. Had to resort to heading back to the car and using a bit of my daughter’s nappy Hmm

TooManyPaws · 15/09/2018 19:46

I think a lot of places have started doing it since the publicity around period poverty. The Scottish Government do it in their offices, particularly where the public or other visitors may be. People leave them in our office loos with a note to take what you need.

IThinkILoveAI · 15/09/2018 19:49

There’s a lovely restaurant we go to in Puerto Del Carmen in Lanzarote (Little Elm) which does something similar.

The food and service is already brilliant but this makes me love them all the more!

jay55 · 15/09/2018 19:53

We have pads and tampons in a bowl in the toilets at work, a tube of toothpaste, and cans of deodorant and hairspray on the shelf next to them. It’s great. And no one seems to steal loads

Beesandfrogsandfleas · 15/09/2018 19:54

I do this for my pupils. If you buy supermarket brands it's pretty cheap to do.

CupOfStars · 15/09/2018 19:54

A hotel I stayed in had a little sewing box on each floor with a selection of sanpro plus safety pins, bobbles, hair pins, etc.
Was a really lovely little touch.

LargeGlassOfPepsi · 15/09/2018 19:55

We have similar at work but it's bags with pockets that hang on the back of the loo doors. There's always san pro, deodorant, disposable toothbrushes, toothpaste, plasters, painkillers, anti histimine tabs, spare tights, hair bobbles, kirby grips, needles and thread, nail files and hand cream. We all bring something in each month and after Christmas there's normally loads of perfumes too.

youarenotkiddingme · 15/09/2018 19:57

Such a simple thing that can make the difference to a woman's night out.

I'd imagine it increases custom as well because I know I'd like to visit somewhere more often that did simple things like this.

Crunchymum · 15/09/2018 19:59

Out of interest where are you?

youarenotkiddingme · 15/09/2018 20:00

Large that's a really great idea.

RayRayBidet · 15/09/2018 20:00

I used to manage a team of staff and I always had a stash in case anyone needed anything and made sure it was known.
I also had a sewing kit after someone had a clothing emergency

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 15/09/2018 20:04

I’ve been to lots of bars in Germany that have this. Some shabby chic bars in Berlin even had a whole array of cosmetics etc set out - wasn’t so sure about that! In the adult education centre I used to work in, my desk had a drawer with sanitary wear, painkillers and emergency chocolate, and students knew they could just come ask.

ScarlettDarling · 15/09/2018 20:06

It seems ironic that places most likely to offer this are nice restaurants and work places where people are very likely to be able to easily afford sanitary protection. Of course this sort of service is still wonderful and greatly appreciated if you were to be caught short, but I'd most like to see this being provided in school loos. The thought of girls not being able to afford sanpro is heart breaking.

TrashPanda · 15/09/2018 20:09

A restaurant in my home town has not long opened and does something similar. It's always heaving and has been nominated for a few awards recently. They have pads, tampons, deodorant but also baby wipes, nappies and nappy bags. The couple that run it have young kids.

7toGo · 15/09/2018 20:10

My friend has a smart restaurant and tried these but the supplies were constantly stolen. He said people take anything that isn’t nailed down.

YeTalkShiteHen · 15/09/2018 20:10

My football club have free san pro in the women’s toilets on match days, a few other Scottish clubs do too.

I’m especially pleased to see it in such a traditionally male sector!
