Hi MN, not and aibu but need some advice.

My toddler has a bladder infection, she was prescribed a 7 day course of antibiotics.
She seems fine in herself but I am now worried as she hasn't had a wet nappy since 11am. Aibu to call 111? How long is too long to wait for her to pee?

is she drinking plenty?

my dd was 5 when she had bladder infection and she was holding her wee in because it stung to go.

BarbarianMum · 15/09/2018 17:43

Get her to drink lots and lots. If its been hurting her to wee try putting her in a warm bath (bit yuck but it will sting less).

Wheresthel1ght · 15/09/2018 17:44

When did he/she last drink?

Maybe a warm bath and massage the bladder area, I know when my now teen dad used to get them a lot the warm water in the bath made it less stingy when she had to go

3littlesandme · 15/09/2018 17:44

She's drinking as usual, she was in a lot of pain last night, and I didn't know why until she had passed urine.

sorry cant remember how long between wet nappies is ideal..... it cant hurt to phone 111 if you are worried.

but usually plenty of drinks, ice lollies, etc should help (and nappy off time was a sure fire way to get them to wee)

3littlesandme · 15/09/2018 17:45

She's fallen asleep on the floor but will try the bath when she wakes up

How much fluid is 'like usual'? 6 hours without a wee is where a physician would start to become concerned IIRC.

Wheresthel1ght · 15/09/2018 17:49

As 5seconds says I think the advice is 6 hours before concern.

Maybe try filling her full of juice to try and fill her bladder

LadyLaSnack · 15/09/2018 18:00

Is she allowed some calpol? UTIs are so painful!

Rebecca36 · 15/09/2018 18:04

Warm bath sounds perfect, she'll wee without even thinking about it.
Hope she is a lot better tomorrow.

5SecondsFromWilding · 15/09/2018 18:07

Warm bath sounds perfect, she'll wee without even thinking about it.

She'll wee without you knowing about it too.

Do give her something for possible pain but you really need to know when she's had a wee.

How far along is she on the antibiotics?

3littlesandme · 15/09/2018 18:15

@5SecondsFromWilding she's on day 2 with the antibiotics, she's had 2 bottles with 7 oz of milk. She's had 3 sippy cups full of water and I've even let her have some juice.

OP posts:
3littlesandme · 15/09/2018 18:16

It's been 7 hours since her last nappy

IHATEPeppaPig · 15/09/2018 18:19

I'd call 111 if I'm honest- I'd be worried.

5SecondsFromWilding · 15/09/2018 18:21

I'd call 111 for advice or take her in to your local children's A&E (that's likely what 111 will ask you to do) as it sounds like she's drank a fair amount.

With her only being on day 2, if they'd done cultures to check which antibiotic was most effective, they may not have been analysed yet. If they didn't, they wouldn't know if she was on the best antibiotic anyway.

Lindy2 · 15/09/2018 18:27

That's quite a lot of liquid with no wet nappy. Is the UTI causing her to have a fever? If so she may be sweating out some of the liquid.
I would call 111 for advice. Hopefully though, now she is asleep and relaxed she may wee whilst sleeping.

3littlesandme · 15/09/2018 18:33

She's just woke up, still no wet nappy. She's had a temp of 38.4 which is coming down with calpol.
Also been on phone to 111, they have offered me an appointment at the out of hours go, but that is at 12.30 tonight.

Shall I wait until then or take her to a&zero

OP posts:
TheSkyAtNight · 15/09/2018 18:41

I'd say a&e. Poor little one, hope she's better soon

5SecondsFromWilding · 15/09/2018 18:52

That GP appointment won't be any use to you really. Either she's still not had a wee by then, in which case she definitely needs to be examined before that point as you'll be past the 12 hour mark. Or she'll have had a wee and you'll likely be comfortable managing her at home.

I'd take her to A&E and keep on top of the calpol. Not just go fever but also in case she's withholding due to pain.

Chiffon · 15/09/2018 18:54

I'd take her to A&E. No wet nappy for that length of time is not right in a little one.

3littlesandme · 15/09/2018 18:59

Nappy is off, everything crossed for a wee.

OP posts:
5SecondsFromWilding · 15/09/2018 19:10

Put her on something you really don't want her to wee on and hope sod's law intervenes Wink

Is there an A&E nearby OP? I wouldn't give it too much longer with it being past the 8 hour mark.

Dodie66 · 15/09/2018 19:39

Just take her to A&E. That’s too long

Foodylicious · 15/09/2018 19:43

I would just go to a&e.
If she still hasn't had a wee by the time you get to ooh they will send you straight to a&e anyway.

I would go as soon as you can tbh Flowers

PoxAlert · 15/09/2018 19:53

Poor little thing (& you too) really hope she does a wee soon for both of your sakes.

I'd say A&E is a good idea. Xxx Normally 111 are really good but sound alike they're being a bit slack here. X
