To be having a ‘nervous breakdown’ over what DH thinks is trivial

Ok so may be nervous breakdown is OTT but it definitely feels like it.
Last week we decided to decorate DS (18) bedroom. DS has been sleeping on the dining room couch during summer hols due to the heat (his room is in the attic and it was sweltering) but refused to go back to his room because it was a state. Anyways nothing got done during the holidays and a week before DC went back to school/college DH decided he had time so we should not only de clutter the WHOLE house but paint DS room too.
Anyways, the house looks worse than it ever has, I can’t do much as I have a really bad back, DS room is nearly painted (DH has run out of paint and was meant to get paint 2 days ago but is now at work) DH is now trying to finish everything after work which means we’re not getting to bed till 2am but still need to be up at 6.30am for DC school run. The wardrobe is up, we still have a chest of drawers to put up, everything is everywhere and the straw that broke the camels back, DS bed arrived today (bought new of eBay) and it was the wrong bed!!! So I rang the company up and the person blatantly lied to me saying I’d ordered the wrong item (got photos of the advert to prove I haven’t). Long story short I got so vexed that I ended up swearing at the guy (not me at all). The stress has got to me so much that yesterday I ended up walking out in the middle of the night.
So not to drip feed, I suffer from anxiety and it gets worse with clutter and lack of organisation. I just can’t stand the mess everywhere and nothing in its place. DH said I’m BU but in my defence why start something you can’t give time to, he doesn’t work a set time which means that I never know when anything is going to get done. If I am BU please advise me on how to deal with my situation.

Thank you all for the replies, its me that needed a kick up the backside and you’re all right I have raised an entitled git. DS is in full time education and I do pay for mobile phone, he doesn’t drive because I’m not willing to pay for it and also he expects me to buy the car and insurance. Due to my back DH is the only breadwinner so money is tight.
We’re 70-80% sure that the bugs were not bed bugs, they were Brown/dark red in colour and more elongated than oval like a bed bug, but they were everywhere, in cupboards, bed, behind the bed, drawers. I am worried but haven’t seen anymore since getting the mattress and bed frame out.

You need a plan.

  1. Call pest control service. Now. Book a time for them to come round to check the house.

  2. Send DS to the shop for more paint. Then get him to spend the afternoon / weekend finishing painting his room. Leave him to it. Don’t hover. Change the WiFi code until it is done.

  3. Go round the house writing a snag list. Sit down with DH to prioritise what needs doing. Start with your bedroom so that you have somewhere to relax to.

  4. Go to bed at 10pm. Leave DH to it. You will be more helpful when you’re rested.

  5. work through any bits of the snag list you can do (ordering things online, filing paperwork, arranging clothes, etc)

Stop taking crap from ds. He’s 18. He can sort his own room!

WhiteDust · 15/09/2018 11:48

Your 18 year old DS needs to grow up. He also needs a kick up the arse. Why did he not do this himself in the summer holidays?
I feel sorry for your DH.

WhiteDust · 15/09/2018 11:52

I shouldn't have read this thread OP... Your entitled, lazy, man-child son is giving me the rage.

Shove everything back the lazy arse's room & tell him that he is NOT sleeping downstairs, he is sorting his room out THIS WEEKEND.

crosstalk · 15/09/2018 12:11

Defo get those bugs checked out OP. If you can get a photo of a dead one or a live one, post it on here and also send it to a pest control service.

thenightsky · 15/09/2018 12:25

Your description of the bugs has not put my mind at rest OP. I still think they could be bed bugs.

yellowspottedwellies · 15/09/2018 12:28

Adult bed bugs tend to be longer - can you grab a photo OP - it's really not something to trivialise with "I don't think they are bed bugs" unless you know that for sure.
Especially if your daughter has bites.

And also, please do not bag anything up for the charity shop until you know for absolute sure they are not bed bugs.

angieloumc · 15/09/2018 14:53

I do think your DS is absolutely bone idle however dirt isn't the cause of bedbugs. They can be brought in on luggage, some one else's house etc. However a cluttered room will make them harder to be detected and get rid of.
A friend of mine had bedbugs and her house is one of the cleanest I've ever seen.
IMO you really do need pest control, I would recommend you contact a team.

CreativeBee · 15/09/2018 17:09

Nothing has gone to charity shops, everything in the bin because of the bugs. Finally managed to get a picture, any thoughts?

Silverfish?!

Btw, your back, is it a long-standing problem?

Not really any of my business, I just know it's miserable and wonder if anyone can help with that too?

Hawkmoth · 15/09/2018 17:37

Check against carpet beetle larvae, which would fit with them eating the inside of a mattress.

They don't bite though.

CreativeBee · 15/09/2018 18:07

lborgia I fell down a lot of stairs in 2016 and suffered with my back since, I was laid up for six months at the beginning (where I couldn’t even walk). I’ve had physio but it was so frustrating because it was getting to the appointments (unable to drive) for exercises I could do at home. I’m finally able to walk but the pain of bending down or lifting is excruciating, I seem to be living on painkillers. Hawkmoth I think you’re right!!! At least we can deal with it without getting in professionals.

angieloumc · 15/09/2018 18:15

I concur with Hawkmoth, they do look like carpet beetle larvae; the adult beetle DOES look a little like a bedbug but if you google you'll see the difference.
Again, not caused by dirt but clutter won't help. Hope you get it sorted OP.

Lucisky · 24/09/2018 13:43

OP, I know this thread is a bit old now, but your second picture looks like a woodlouse to me. They can get everywhere. It could be several varieties of creepy crawlies in your house. Doesn't look like silverfish though.
