My dm and I believe when you pass there is another better place you go to. Df disagrees and says when you are gone that's it.
I nearly died giving birth to ds (complications and pre eclampsia) and I know I was drifting somewhere lovely but was told I was too young and it was not my time and turned back. I awoke to chaos and pain and was very disappointed.
Some people will say it's the drugs you get in labour but I have had a few woo encounters over the years when I have been in a clear mind.
So what do you believe? Aibu there is something more after we die?
And that dearly loved pets will be there.
(Maybe not heaven but something).
Sorry this is long and weird.

"But it’s a racing certainty they wouldn’t have spoke about a specific religion other than Christianity. It’s only Christianity they feel safe to knock. I wonder why that is."
I am happy to be outspoken about Islam (I assume you mean Islam?) and I have been on here several times. I am much more knowledgeable about Christianity, though so I am surer of my facts. But I haven't let that stop me in the past!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 17/09/2018 03:18

I'm with Bertrand on this, I know more about christianity because it was what I was taught from an early age but I'm happy to be be as equally critical of any of the Abrahamic religions Islam, Judaism, Jehovah Witnesses, Church of the later day saints, its all bullshit, nd not even a little bit of bullshit but whole big steaming pile of it.

Always seems to be a christian that always gets their poor little feelings hurt and then proceed to tell us that we wouldnt dare be this critical of another religion and I call bullshit on that.

HermaphroditePug · 17/09/2018 13:35

I’m quite happy to knock ALL religions.

I think they’re all equally ridiculous and harmful. I don’t think they’re equally harmful all the time. I’m quite prepared to state that Islam is more dangerous than Christianity. No doubt a half hearted Muslim will be along shortly to protest though.

BertrandRussell · 17/09/2018 13:49

I’m always amused by the “oh, you wouldn’t dare criticize Islam” posts. I assume they haven’t been on Facebook or glanced at a tabloid newspaper recently.....

Unobtainable · 17/09/2018 14:23

No I don't.

I think your body just returns to the ground as dust to then go on to become something else in the future whether it's feeding worms or trees or settling in the ocean (unless of course your ashes are kept in a vase on someone's mantle piece for years...)

Your spirit doesn't go on, in my opinion, apart from in the hearts and minds of those you touched during your life.

I can't imagine a gathering place where you meet everyone you've ever cared for. How would you exist? What would you do all day? Where would all the awful people be and what's to stop them from interacting with your group? Imagine war criminals, gangsters, Ian Brady...

What if you had a difficult relationship with your parents? Would you suffer them for eternity? What about orphans? Surely if all humans have energy and that energy goes on then animals must do to? does that include worms or just your pet dog?

It just doesn't make sense so no, I think it's like having a general anesthetic, you fade and then ........
nothing.

theOtherPamAyres · 17/09/2018 17:49

The Resurrection is a puzzle since nobody recognised Jesus.

His own mother mistakes him for a gardener. Two people walking to Emmaus Christ are joined by a mysterious third man on the road. They don't recognise him. Doubting Thomas doesn't recognise his face but believes only after seeing his wounds. And so it goes on......

if you've just spent the past three years following Jesus, it's pretty incredible that you don't recognise him as he stands beside you.

There are Christian and Roman sources for the fact that the historical Jesus lived and died. The sources about whether he died and then lived again, raise questions more than answers.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 17/09/2018 21:20

There are Christian and Roman sources for the fact that the historical Jesus lived and died.

Unfortunately the main source of that is Tacitus but the part that refers to Jesus was added much later and was debunked years ago

sweethope · 17/09/2018 22:00

BertrandRussell I was talking about on mumsnet. What's Facebook to do with it.

sweethope · 17/09/2018 22:07

Always seems to be a christian that always gets their poor little feelings hurt and then proceed to tell us that we wouldnt dare be this critical of another religion and I call bullshit on that.
You've seriously got to be kidding. Christian's are far less easily offended than muslims. They take offence at practically everything. It can't be denied. How odd to think otherwise.

BertrandRussell · 17/09/2018 22:50

"They take offence at practically everything. It can't be denied. How odd to think otherwise"
It can be denied. Here's me denying it. Muslims are being dissed in the tabloid press every day

sweethope · 17/09/2018 23:00

What are you denying? I’m not talking about what’s in the papers, i don’t read them. I said they’re much more easily offended than Christians are. It’s perfectly fine to say this after the poster above said about Christians “precious little religion” get offended easily. Here’s me denying that.

sweethope · 17/09/2018 23:02

Meant to say “there poor little feelings hurt”

“Bertrand you can give it out but you can’t take it. Always insulting Christians, but no other religion.”

Grin if you can find an example of me insulting Christians, i’ll give a tenner to the charity of your choice.

sweethope · 17/09/2018 23:19

How far do you want me to go back. Insulting doesn’t necessarily mean name calling, more belittling people’s beliefs and possibly making some people doubt their faith?

BertrandRussell · 17/09/2018 23:23

You can go back as far as you like. Would you like me to give you a list of all my previous user names?

BertrandRussell · 17/09/2018 23:25

“and possibly making some people doubt their faith?”

Frankly, if an atheist asking questions makes you doubt you faith it can”t have been very strong!

sweethope · 17/09/2018 23:29

So you don’t deny you belittle people’s beliefs.

sweethope · 17/09/2018 23:35

No i don’t doubt mine bertrand, but some people sometimes do. We’re all human. But i suppose it’s only natural to listen to other views and if their argument is really good could make you think they might have a point. Keeping an open mind is preferable to having fixed inflexible views?

BertrandRussell · 17/09/2018 23:37

Nope. I never belittle people’s beliefs. I question them and disagree with them.

But I am happy to pay out the tenner if you can quote me insulting Christians.

sweethope · 17/09/2018 23:43

I really haven’t got the time or inclination to go looking, maybe someone else will.

Gersemi · 18/09/2018 06:35

sweethope, why on earth should anyone else go on a hopeless quest to try and prove your assertions?

BertrandRussell · 18/09/2018 06:46

@sweethome, you said "Bertrand you can give it out but you can’t take it. Always insulting Christians, but no other religion.”
You should either back that up with examples or withdraw it- I regard it as quite a serious allegation.

Figural · 18/09/2018 07:38

No. There's not the least little bit of reliable evidence for it.

Millions, perhaps even billions, of people across the world take mind-altering substances for those lovely effects normal life doesn't provide.
