To adore Ravelry

I love finding inspiration for knitting projects and adore Ravelry, any more sites similar that you can recommend? I like being able to search for projects made from the yarn I fancy using and looking at other knitters' finished articles and getting advice on how to fix my mistakes.

Love Ravelry too :-)

Currently almost finished this scarf in a cream yarn - destined as a gift for someone.

Haven't found another site which comes close in terms of sheer number and variety of patterns.

Love it to. Made some aran hats and scarves from free patterns from there. Haven't found any other sites but some facebook groups for crochet, two hearts crochet family and CAL - Crochet Along. Just made a sophies garden, with around the bases borders for MIL 70th. It's gorgeous. There must be some knitting ones to. Pinterest can be good also.

There's knitting paradise but IMO it's not a patch on Ravelry.

If you want advice on specific techniques you can google, look on YouTube or ask in Ravelry Techniques. Pay the $5 a year to upload pictures so they can see what you've done, as you'll get better help that way. They do tend to like people who've tried a bit of self-help first rather than running to ask how to knit two together. For pattern-specific advice check other people's project notes, the designers group if there is one, or post in Patterns.

PolkerrisBeach The scarf is beautiful, I hope the recipient loves it :) I just started this www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-paris-sweater it's just a rectangle and I'm interested to see if I have the gauge correct or if I end up making another blanket type garment instead. Through Ravelry I have learned Fair-Isle, cables, knitting in the round and how to turn a heel. Bloody marvellous :)

Love it

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 14:02

Love ravelry! Haven't found anything that compares to it yet though! I use pinterest a lot but it's not as good as ravelry because I find a lot of the links are unreliable

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 14:04

I also love it that people upload their FOs so you can really see what the pattern comes out like, with different yarns etc

ProfessorMoody · 13/09/2018 14:10

I can spend hours on Ravelry. Fantastic site.

Cronesquerness · 13/09/2018 14:51

Yes Pamdoo I like to see how other knitters' projects have turned out, it's honest and I like it so much I made this post! I've been hoping for an app too, for years. The forum has been nothing but helpful and has encouraged me to knit more [but crochet??] The Ladybird book of Crochet makes it look too complicated for me....

I find Ravelry really hard to use. I think I must be doing something wrong.

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 15:05

I taught myself to knit in my teens so decided I could teach myself to crochet as I really wanted to make blankets, I found it so much more difficult! I put it down and kept going back to it then it clicked. But I finally realised it's because crochet is easier so I was over complicating it.

Asterado · 13/09/2018 15:07

YANBU May Ravelry long continue! I crochet though and Pinterest is also my friend.

MsHomeSlice · 13/09/2018 15:20

i love it too ! I am off to look at your scarf now! and the jumper!

I looked, and now have two more downloads!

TooManyPaws · 13/09/2018 15:26

I adore Ravelry and I have made some good real life friends through the forums. Lots of stories about children warning mums about meeting people off the Internet when they were off to meet ups in cafes etc. 😂

First place I look for patterns and info on yarns eg yardage when substituting. I'm several years behind in uploading stash and projects though... 🤫☺️

TooManyPaws · 13/09/2018 15:32

PS those who are struggling to crochet, Google Attic24 for her blog. She has excellent step by step photo tutorials as well as lovely patterns, especially blankets - you'll never forget a stitch once you've used it for an entire blanket! 😂

Pamdoo · 13/09/2018 15:37

Yes Attic 24 makes beautiful things! Lots of photo tutorials too.

Cronesquerness · 13/09/2018 15:37

toomanypaws I'm off down south to visit my daughter and GC and so I have evenings free, I shall look and try, thanks :)

I second Attic 24. Bella Coco tutorials are great too. I taught myself to crochet using a mixture of both.

steff13 · 13/09/2018 16:15

Love

ProfessorMoody · 13/09/2018 16:23

I think I've pretty much made every Attic24 design going Grin

Cronesquerness · 13/09/2018 16:47

Got a free week coming up so I"ll be trying to make crochet accessible .

Ravelry is fab; I've been on it for years.

Figural · 13/09/2018 19:09

I've been on Ravelry for years, too, nothing else like it for knitting stuff on the Web. I love it. I've never been able to crochet though, I've given up on that.
