Well I am?

Saw a house last week and each and every radiator was painted. Ranging from sky blue to burgundy. Why???????????

The whole lot would need to be replaced.

Grrr

Personally, I think white gloss radiators are grim in most situation anyway. Liking the farrow and Ball concept, or natural Victorian but not white gloss, yuck!

Fimbo · 08/06/2007 14:42

Is this geegaws (loving it btw)

Geekaws are bric-a-brac. Brits call it bric-a-brac.

newlifenewname · 08/06/2007 14:44

Let me go see - I know I have a yellow one somewhere in the same yellow that I am going to paint over ASAP and ideally in a life where I can afford Farrow and Ball paint.

mumblechum · 08/06/2007 14:44

barf at geegaws.

Can we have a barf emoticon please??

my uncle (from Berkshire) used to use the word geegaws to mean trinkets.

wannaBe · 08/06/2007 14:57

when my parents moved into their house every side of every door had been painted a different colour. it looked like a nursery school project. in the lounge one side of the door was green, the other side was blue and the door frame was yellow - I kid you not.

Also a girl I used to work with went house hunting once and in the kitchen all the cupboard doors had been removed and the cupboards converted into bird cages.

helenhismadwife · 08/06/2007 15:15

wish my house had radiators dont care what colour they are it gets so cold here
my friend is moving into a house next month the walls have been carpeted halfway up

Enid · 08/06/2007 15:16

Rads are really easy to paint if you buy the spray stuff. I really wouldn't let it put you off a house

(Did that link by jura count as batting?)

Fimbo · 08/06/2007 17:10

Oh its not putting me off - it's just not me I guess

Lol at the cupboards being changed into bird cages

My friend bought a house and when she moved into it discovered the previous owners had simply painted round the furniture, so she had outlines of sofas, headboards etc. Twas comical.

yes! its not your house (yet) and you can paint over it if its that hideous

alipiggie · 08/06/2007 17:16

It's not my old house in Scotland you were looking at was it. When we moved in every radiator was as you say varying shades of pink/burgundy to sky blue. We did actually paint quite a few of them. Thought it most peculiar as I'm used to unpainted white radiators. Just get the radiator paint and it's an easy job in the summer.

nooka · 08/06/2007 17:19

dh would refuse to even view a house with intragated kitchen units because he dislikes them so much, but painted radiators aren't exactly a big deal to overcome, just paint or spray them, simple no skill job. But then I hate white walls, dull dull dull . Our old sitting room had black radiators to go with orange walls, looked fab!(we did repaint to sell though).

Fimbo · 08/06/2007 17:21

oh dear, I am unreasonable and dull.

I once rented a flat where they had painted around the furniture!

How bizarre is that?

Turned out she was renting me her council flat while claiming income support and was living with her new boyfriend
No wonder she included the council tax in the rent.

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 08/06/2007 18:24

Umm... yes, just a little.

They probably didn't anticipate your arrival when they did their painting...

Aero · 08/06/2007 19:11

Sorry - I prefer them painted too. Radiators (imho) look best blended in. The less noticable the better.

RosaLuxembourg · 08/06/2007 19:16

It could be worse Fimbo - when my neighbour moved into her house she discovered the previous owners had carpeted around their large items of furniture. There were patches of bare boards in every room!
