To think some busy car parks have an excessive amount of disabled spaces?

Every time I go to my local Sainsbury's, i very rarely find a free Parent & Child space, or any space that is not at the very far end of the car park. I've noticed this more recently as I'm heavily pregnant and have a 2 year old so would love a P&C space. There are only 12 parent & child bays, but there are 18 disabled spaces, the vast majority of them are always free. Given the ratio of parents with young children to blue badge holders in a supermarket at any one time, would it not be more sensible to have, say 12 disabled and 18 P&C bays, or even half & half? I've noticed this in places like IKEA and other big supermarkets too (but haven't actually counted the bays!)

By God Debbys. What an entitled witch that complainer !!!!!!!!!

Samcro · 11/09/2018 18:47

wow that just really shows how entitled parents can be.

PositivelyPERF · 11/09/2018 18:49

Wow, that entitled fucker just didn’t get it, did she? I loved the response from the store. Good for them.

PositivelyPERF · 11/09/2018 18:51

Oh! I just reread the OP’s post and the penny has dropped.

Just counting down to the ‘deleted as the OP is concerned about being recognised ‘.

Oh... my.... god... Debbysmum that is quite honestly the most selfish thing I've read in a very long time. Have some parents evolved to such entitled, apparently useless human beings? My eldest son is 30 next year, there were no P&C spaces back when he was a baby, so I lugged the car seat on my arm because I didn't have mobility issues back then. Utterly pathetic.

coffeeforone · 11/09/2018 19:10

@DebbysMum I can assure you that I would never park in a disabled space without a B.B.!

Lol at "I'd have to be pretty strong to carry a baby in a carrier from one shop to another".

Some people.

gamerwidow · 11/09/2018 19:17

OP I think I know the car park you mean it’s got 2 double rows of BB spaces and honestly i have never seen all those spaces in use. It is a very big car park though and fairly new so I assume they are working on the basis of a % of spaces rather than need.
I have often wondered about it because it does seem a waste but maybe actually more car parks should follow their lead?

KarmaStar · 11/09/2018 19:25

Angryin a parallel world the op is injured through no fault of their own.unable to walk, she loses her job, then her home, her self respect, her friends, she gets out once a week,it's a big struggle.it's agony.to do her shopping, the only time this week She can get out,the only chance to be around other's.
She gets to the store car park to find as a result of a healthy person with healthy children has complained about the amount of bb bags the bbq bags have been reduced and there is nowhere to park where she can get her wheelchair out.
As she drives out of the car park she see's happy healthy families zip into big free spaces for parents with children, see's them alight from their cars and run laughing happily into the store.
FFS,OP,THINK!

KarmaStar · 11/09/2018 19:26

Apologies for typos am so angry

Singletomingle · 11/09/2018 19:28

Perhaps the issue isnt how many spaces of 1 sort or another are available but how big those spaces are, most car parks still provide spaces that are designed for 1960's cars so are too small for modern cars. If spaces were bigger there might be less people using bigger spaces because they struggle to park or because they are worried their cars will be damaged.

DebbysMum · 11/09/2018 19:39

That screenshot is from a blog I read, can be found here: www.stfuparentsblog.com/post/76558293604/the-ongoing-saga-of-parent-parking

When I came across it today I immediately thought of this thread and wondered if this wasn't the first time the OP found drama where there was none in Sainsbury's parking lot.

Padparadscha · 11/09/2018 19:44

DebbysMum, I thought I recognised that star! I used to love STFUParents, I’ll have to reread some old posts as I sometimes worry I’ve become what I used to giggle at Blush.

daphine2004 · 11/09/2018 19:54

@CrochetBelle actually with newborns and younger babies you take the car seat with you. The car seat then attaches to the shopping trolly.

With older children of course the car seat stays in the car. That too has its own challenges. Not sure if you’re a parent or it’s just been some time, but you do need extra space to with kids.

Samcro · 11/09/2018 20:06

Oh i could cry for all these people struggling with small. Children.
Must be so hard and awful, the lifetime of struggling to go shopping. The lifetime of having to park in special bays as you can't get out otherwise.
Omg poor parents
They should be helped, think of them,

PortiaCastis · 11/09/2018 20:09

No extra space on the bus which is what a lot of people have to take to do their shopping with a baby and a toddler and they don't whinge they just get on with it

hazeyjane · 11/09/2018 20:15

3 children, and we never used the car seat in the trolley.

Sirzy · 11/09/2018 20:18

I took the car seat out about three times before realising doing so was simply making my life much more complicated!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/09/2018 20:21

'Failed to see how parking in one was a issue... '

Ermmmm!!!!!!

HairyLegs11 · 11/09/2018 20:31

Are you enjoying winding everyone up OP? Hmm suspicious

Haireverywhere · 11/09/2018 20:54

I honestly thought this wasn't a serious post. OP that'll do now hey.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 11/09/2018 21:04

It’s interesting how many parents feel they would really, really struggle without a P&C space in a supermarket or shopping centre yet zoos and farms and Legoland car parks are full of parents. Many of the children are small enough to need a car seat and people bring babies....

Cakefairy1978 · 11/09/2018 21:30

It would save a lot of issues if parent and disabled shared spaces so they were always used. It's more the room needed...not necessarily closer to the shops.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 11/09/2018 21:43

@cakefairy1978 please say you’re joking, please say you’re joking.

Snappedandfarted2018 · 11/09/2018 21:54
