AIBU to go totally TMI but could do with advice from some medical types

So...nearly name changed and apologies in advance for this being TMI central

I have Lichen Sclerosis (yaay). It's been bad lately and although I have Dermovate cream it's not touching it. I've also had a lot of clear, watery discharge. Going for a wee is like peeing acid. It's not good.

Anyway, I had a look down there with a mirror to see how bad it was, where to get the cream etc and I noticed that my fanjo looked like it was falling out. I can see what I think is my cervix and the inside looks like it's full of intestines or something (sorry - told you it was TMI)

I assume I've had some sort of prolapse. I'm really upset and feel gross. I have had continence issues which have been getting worse lately. I have a six year old who was on the 99 percentile for head size and weight and was yanked out with forceps so things haven't been right since then, but basically my fanny looks like a mineshaft that has collapsed.

If there are any medical types could you possibly advise me as I am freaking out.

Do I wait till Monday to see my GP or do I go to a walk in? Will I need surgery? If so, is it a long waiting list (I know no one can answer that).

Will I go back to normal? Can I have sex now / ever again? Is there anything other than dermovate for the lichen.

I;m embarrased to go to a doctor given the lichen (but obviously I'll still do it)

Thank you. Sorry it's a bit grim

Sorry op not got any advice but just wanted to say you’ve got nothing to be embarrassed about. It sounds like it’s really shocked you - I’m not surprised it sounds difficult. Flowers

redsummershoes · 08/09/2018 18:33

sorry you are feeling rough.

please go to your go, you need a gyn referral.

catgirl1976 · 08/09/2018 18:33

Thanks aldgagie Thanks

I just feel like I'm falling apart. Physically, not emotionally, although I am worried and the lichen is causing a lot of pain and discomfort and I am sick of weeing when I cough or sneeze and this just feels like the last straw. My fanjo has turned against me. Almost literally by the looks of it.

I will red. I'm just hoping they can sort it and its not a 12 month waiting list.

Oh sweetie. I couldn't read and not respond. Annoyingly I have nothing useful to suggest, other than try 111?

TurnipCake · 08/09/2018 18:39

Are you using dermovate cream or the ointment? Using ointments never feels nice but it works better on LS than the creams.

You'll need to see your GP and ask for a referral to a gynaecologist. Walk-in won't be able to do the referral. Operating waiting times are hit and miss depending on where you live, bed states etc, but you need to be seen first.

catgirl1976 · 08/09/2018 18:41

Thank you both - I'll wait to see my GP if walk ins can't do referrals Thanks

I would go to GP Monday if you can wait it out. They may offer to fit a ring pessary for you which acts to prop things back up (aka instant relief!). Do not be embarrassed we see everything and nothing shocks us.

itbemay · 08/09/2018 18:42

GP Monday for exam and referral to gynae, sounds like a prolapse. Sorry op

catgirl1976 · 08/09/2018 18:42

h and it's a cream turnip - I'll ask about an ointment

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 08/09/2018 18:43

Thank you

I have been reading about the rings :(

I don't know about the skin thing but I have had a mild prolapse for years. Can you trying gently pushing it in with clean fingers and then hold your pelvic floor. Then if you feel the bulge trying sucking your vagina in and up.

It's nothing to be embarrassed about.

catgirl1976 · 08/09/2018 18:44

Thanks Wips

Sorry you are experiencing this. I am on the waiting list for prolapse surgery, thankfully waits aren't too long in my area. It is a Urogynaecologist you should ask for a referral to. I have found the Apops page on Facebook very helpful and informative. Good luck.

catgirl1976 · 08/09/2018 18:48

Thank you - I'll check out Apops on Facebook

Poor you! There’s a thread running at the moment about pelvic floor issues here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3332405-To-ask-for-your-Pelvic-Organ-Prolapse-Surgery-success-stories. It’s very supportive. You should definitely go to your GP and ask for a referral to a gynaecologist. Good luck!

catgirl1976 · 08/09/2018 19:02

Thank you Starlings - I'll check the thread out now

I have a prolapse. It’s being monitored by my GP but it isn’t getting any worse at present. I’ve tried various pessary things to hold it all in place but they just fall out. It’s quite bad but for various reasons I don’t want surgery, so I live with it.

Your problem does sound like a prolapse but it does not require an urgent appointment. I was worried that everything might suddenly fall out but the doctor reassured me that this does not happen.

catgirl1976 · 08/09/2018 19:07

Thank you - I know it's silly but I was worried about that too

Although it’s a shock ( discovered a prolapse on holiday 😒) it would not be a walk in issue and they would not be able to refer you. Your GP needs to refer you to a urogynacologist, who will examine , may carry out a number of tests and may recommend you for surgery, if appropriate . Our local surgery list was 8 weeks, so not too bad but yours may vary. You may also be given a referral to a pelvic physio ( learning how do pelvic floor exercises properly - very helpful) and the consultant may fit a pessary - it wasn’t right for me but a friend found it so successful she is happily continuing with that without surgery.

The surgery is major - long recovery period.

This patient.info/health/genitourinary-prolapse-leaflet is very helpful about describing the whole issue and remedial action. Been there, OP - know how you feel .

catgirl1976 · 08/09/2018 19:11

Thank you Platypus. It sucks doesn't it :(

Chipshopninja · 08/09/2018 19:16

Hi OP try not to worry. If it is a prolapse it's.not dangerous and not an emergency.

Although I know how scary it is. I was inconsolable for weeks.

See your GP and ask for a referral to a urogynacologist (not a gynocologist) they may also refer you for physio.

Some people are able to fix theirs with physio alone and some need surgery but it's not a case of every prolapse needing surgery. It will be your decision.

I found mine 7 years ago and have not had surgery. I just live with it.

Here's some Flowers it really is scary and upsetting when you first find it.

Oh and yes you can have sex Wink

PlatypusPie · 08/09/2018 19:20

This is also a useful specific forum - picked up some useful pre and post surgery tips on it : patient.info/forumsbrowse/genitourinary-prolapse-995

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 08/09/2018 19:21

It sounds like two different things. I can't help with the prolapse but do have bastard LS and find that Dermovate cream is shite, I use the Clobetesol ointment once a week and that keeps my symptoms mostly under control.

GPs prefer you to have the dermovate as it's not as potentially damaging, but it's more damaging to be constantly mid LS flare and I'm sticking with my clobetesol (I really only use VERY little and anyone who tries to take it off me gets kicked in their LS free Fanny!!)

Confusedbeetle · 08/09/2018 19:24

You have to be seen by a doctor
