To ask what you think about grown women who go to Disneyland without dc with Disney ears and wearing Disney dresses?

Before anyone flames me this is meant to be light hearted. Obviously a holiday is about doing what you want to do and I strongly believe each to their own. I also don't get holidays where you fling yourself out of trees or go to back to basic retreats where you pay a fortune to effectively starve yourself.

But I have 2 friends on Facebook - one an ex colleague and the other a distant family member who have been to Disneyland Florida with their partners (who look a bit bored in the photos) over the last 2 months. Both have dressed in cutesie Disney dresses, Disney shoes, bags and ears despite being in their 30's and their photos are mainly all with various characters. I just don't get it. I imagine with children or for a few days it would be totally magical but I think 2 weeks of meeting characters and eating Disney shaped food would get a bit boring after a while. But I am prepared to be educated. These women look like they are literally having the time of their lives so there must be something I am missing.

Would you go on your own without dc's for 2 weeks?

Absolutely- it's nice to be able to regress slightly and enjoy 'childhood' pleasures. It's innocent and fun, rides and ears and characters is just good natured fun. You sound like a snob

ChateauRouge · 08/09/2018 14:45

Hahaha- there is a huge Disney as on my page!

I think, honestly, I'd pity them a little. That's probably not very nice of me, and I'd never share those thoughts aloud.

hungryhippie · 08/09/2018 14:45

I 100% would go!
Disney is brilliant!

ChateauRouge · 08/09/2018 14:46

I mean-they're everyone has a different idea of what is fun, yes?

Pretty sure they wouldn't want to do what I do for fun...

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 08/09/2018 14:47

I’d be a bit jealous actually. I’d love to go to Disney and get dressed up as a princess Blush

SingingSands · 08/09/2018 14:47

I think you answered your own question in your opening paragraph!

Disney isn't for everyone, myself included, but I know many of my friends adore it. The freedom to dress up and embrace the innocence and happiness is all part of the experience I suppose.

Like you say, each to their own. I like deserted Scottish beaches, even if it's raining Grin

SaucyJack · 08/09/2018 14:47

Not my cup of tea, meh.

If they did a GameOfThronesLand, I’d be there for the opening in my Stark armour.

PolkerrisBeach · 08/09/2018 14:47

I wouldn't go around my local high street wearing mickey ears and a Frozen t-shirt.

But in Disney you just get carried away with it all! I didn't ever have a princess dress but I definitely wore ears.

gamerwidow · 08/09/2018 14:48

Each to their own. I went to EuroDisney with DD this year and it was great to see her face when she saw the characters and enjoy the rides but it’s not for me. I don’t enjoy the rides and unless you do the queues and expense aren’t worth it.
I don’t judge the dressing up it’s no different to comic con or dressing up for festivals. I like to see people enjoying themselves and getting really involved in the stuff they love.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 08/09/2018 14:48

I strongly believe each to their own

I just don't get it.

There's not much to get, is there? People do what they love. I have friends whose DC are grown, the parents go back to Florida every single year and are Disney mad. No idea what the allure is for them, but I don't need to get it. I smile and press 'like' on their pictures and that's them done for another 12 months.

tillytoodles1 · 08/09/2018 14:48

I know a grown up women and her mother who go to Disney in Florida twice a year, just with each other and buy ears and everything. They adore it.

BumDisease · 08/09/2018 14:49

"These women look like they are literally having the time of their lives"

That's all you need to know. Why do you care?

Bluntness100 · 08/09/2018 14:50

Nope, I'd have to be very very drunk.

Witchofzog · 08/09/2018 14:50

I am honestly as far from a snob as possible and I am genuinely curious. I love all things holiday and am always intrigued by people who enjoy different things. I have a really good friend who loves caving breaks- the thought of which terrifies me. We have had some great conversations about her holidays (though I still remain unconvinced Grin)

It's pathetic. I'd pity them.

Tobythecat · 08/09/2018 14:51

I wouldnt give a fuck what you or anyone else thought. Planning on going for my 30th for two weeks. I cant help but feel that there is an element of jealousy as some people would love to take their kids but cant afford it but the childfree folk can because they have more money. Also jealousy due to not having the guts to be carefree and have fun and not care what people think and you are just wishing you could be the same.

Duchessgummybuns · 08/09/2018 14:51

My ex’s girlfriend does this. I think it’s odd but each to their own. The only thing that annoys me is my ex has promised to take our daughter with them next time they go and has yet to deliver - but has been without her in that time!

PaddysMarket · 08/09/2018 14:51

Having been with my DC's many times I think going alone with another adult would be ten times better.

I went to see a Disney cruise ship on Thursday, just because, stunning up close btw.
The dressing up thing isn't for me but it's not harming anyone.

ChateauRouge · 08/09/2018 14:53

Life would be very boring if we were all the same, wouldn't it?

50Running50 · 08/09/2018 14:54

I find it pathetic too!

But then, as a child I never liked 'disney' or princesses or all that shit!

Never dreamed of a wedding dress or a prince either!

I'm now 49 and it still leaves me cold. As a child I was always in the mud or up a tree, so my perfect holiday would be camping/hiking/activities

itswinetime · 08/09/2018 14:54

It's like you said at the start isn't it each to there own!

Some people are happy posting gym work outs Hmm

Others enjoy backpacking round youth hostels

Some go to Disneyland if you having fun and not hurting others go for it!!!

Witchofzog · 08/09/2018 14:54

Duchess That's a bit off. Both women I mention don't have dc's yet but I imagine they would not hesitate to take future dc's

No jealousy from me either....
