To ask what you think about grown women who go to Disneyland without dc with Disney ears and wearing Disney dresses?

Before anyone flames me this is meant to be light hearted. Obviously a holiday is about doing what you want to do and I strongly believe each to their own. I also don't get holidays where you fling yourself out of trees or go to back to basic retreats where you pay a fortune to effectively starve yourself.

But I have 2 friends on Facebook - one an ex colleague and the other a distant family member who have been to Disneyland Florida with their partners (who look a bit bored in the photos) over the last 2 months. Both have dressed in cutesie Disney dresses, Disney shoes, bags and ears despite being in their 30's and their photos are mainly all with various characters. I just don't get it. I imagine with children or for a few days it would be totally magical but I think 2 weeks of meeting characters and eating Disney shaped food would get a bit boring after a while. But I am prepared to be educated. These women look like they are literally having the time of their lives so there must be something I am missing.

Would you go on your own without dc's for 2 weeks?

I am shocked and amazed at the nkotb cruise Shock I can't figure out if it is genius or not Grin

Me too, witch. I'm undecided.

I have a mate who's been on them twice and said they were fab

Nikephorus · 08/09/2018 15:26

Princess dress? Nope. Tigger onesie? I can see the appeal Grin
If they're enjoying themselves then I think it's great. They're hurting no-one and they're happy, and that's how it should be.

Jaxhog · 08/09/2018 15:27

I love Disney! I might draw the line at a disney dress though, but have no problem if others want to wear one. (I might wear my fairy wings though)

If people want to have a bit of innocent fun, why does it matter to anyone else?

therealimposter · 08/09/2018 15:28

Each to their own. I wouldn't choose it for my holidays but they wouldn't choose where I went this summer either.

Andthatsthat · 08/09/2018 15:31

Disney is not for me. We would have taken the dcs, but luckily Disney isn’t for them either!

I know a few adult Disney obsessives, with the theme running through their homes, clothing, tattoos etc (this is discounting any of their children’s belongings) I can’t comprehend it to be honest, and I find it a bit irritating how some of them try to be all cutesy with it.

I bet they are the type of women that dress their dogs up in dresses and tiaras too.

Nikephorus · 08/09/2018 15:37

So, lexer, what fun things do you do? Or is your only source of amusement pouring scorn on complete strangers?

MarklesMerkin · 08/09/2018 15:38

I find it a bit irritating how some of them try to be all cutesy with it. This is my only gripe with Disney obsessives. Every single one I know puts on a show of acting much younger than they are and act ditzy and cutesy - that is what bothers me, not the being a fan of Disney. I find it disturbing.

OuiOuiMonAmi · 08/09/2018 15:39

People who 'hate' DisneyWorld often haven't been (not everyone, of course). There is an image that it's either (a) like eg. Thorpe Park or (b) everything is Disney-themed. Neither are true - the vast majority of rides aren't roller-coasters - in fact, people are often disappointed if they go expecting it to be like a UK theme park. And whilst, of course, the Disney stuff is there, it's about so much more than that. I'm a MASSIVE Disney parks fan but couldn't give a stuff about Disney as a brand. Also, nearly all the rides are actually nothing to do with Disney characters at all (eg. rides through space, a jungle cruise, a boat trip through a huge greenhouse, flying over California etc.

As for the Mickey ears etc., I wouldn't do it but it doesn't occur to me to judge people who do.

RibbonAurora · 08/09/2018 15:43

Not for me but if they're enjoying themselves (and not expecting me to do it) good on 'em. Why would anyone 'pity' someone having a good time? I have my own little escapist thing that isn't for everybody (it doesn't involve dressing up) but I'm having so much fun, why lose would I do it? Pity seems weirdly incongruous as a response to happiness in others.

kateandme · 08/09/2018 15:44

i only wouldn't because of the terrbile experience we had at Disney when I was young.we booked and looked forward to it for ever.then there was no character apart from goofy.and just a general lacking in care or enthusiasm throughout the park

Blueemeraldagain · 08/09/2018 15:45

I like Disney. I’ve been to Paris and Tokyo Disneylands. I had an amazing time at both parks and would love to visit the American Disney Parks but the idea of spending TWO WEEKS just in the parks boggles my mind. There are so many other things to see.

RibbonAurora · 08/09/2018 15:45

*else not lose ffs autocorrect

SunnyCoco · 08/09/2018 15:45

It’s not my cup of tea but I really love seeing people indulge in their passions and enjoy themselves :)
Go for it Disney lovers!

kateandme · 08/09/2018 15:47

to some going around French castles would be hell.but to other magical.
to some lying on a beach boring.but to others bliss
some a packed poolside hotel awful.but to others all part of it
to some self catering slave worthy.to other comforting.
to some an adventure holiday no way!to some passion
to some a retriet and spa the ultimate relaxation to some agony in sitting.
each to their own.

Marie0 · 08/09/2018 15:52

I think it's a bit odd, but each to their own!

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 08/09/2018 15:54

Disney is my idea of the worst nightmare ever!

OhTheRoses · 08/09/2018 15:55

DH and I have friends who went to Disney on their honeymoon. And go every year with their DC who are now grown up. One DC works for disney.

Doesn't float our boat but it floats theirs and they are v nice. He is a CEO of a top company. And we have very good conversations about the things we have in common. Not DH's opera or their love of America but lots of common ground.

EK36 · 08/09/2018 15:55

Because they love it and they're brave enough to do it.

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 08/09/2018 15:56

I think we all have a version of escapism whatever it is.

Disney isn't my thing but I can understand how it would appeal.

I really don't see it as much different from religiously watching soaps no matter what , or having a favourite author.

I think like any hobby if it gets out of control then that's different and some people get obsessive but they will do that over anything from Disney to collecting beer mats to making the whole family revolve around what time Corrie is on to evryones detriment.

If they at a happy then good for them . I've read Jane Eyre and the old man and the sea going on for 30 times in my life which is just as wierd and obsessive but I'm fine with that

I find it far more odd and pathetic for people calling them losers and sad tbh (not saying you were saying that OP in fairness you been respectfully curious to my mind)

Live and let live

ForalltheSaints · 08/09/2018 15:57

Not for me, but is it really much different from others who remember things from their childhood? Look at the age of those at platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross on any day.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/09/2018 15:58

Mugs, for the price of Disney Branded gear.
However I went to DLP this summer with DS and we both loved it.
However I apart from a popcorn bucket & a pen; he got nothing else Disney.

steppemum · 08/09/2018 16:00

shudder - my worst nightmare being in a disney dress going round disneyland

But I realised the other day, as a young single my teddy lived on my bed. Then he had a special place in my bedroom.
Now, meh, I would be happy to chuck him in the bin. Feels really childish.

So maybe I am just old and cynical!
