Sharing a bar of soap?

My dp, 2 dc and myself all use soap when we wash/shower/bathe. We all use the same bar of soap. I over heard my dsd on the phone to her Mum telling her we share soap and saying its dirty then they both laughed! Confused apparently they have their own soap because its 'unhygienic' to share. Apparently they have a bar for their feet, a bar to wash their body and a bar to wash their face. So 3 different bars each?! HmmWe have shower gel so dsd uses that but just thought it was rude for her and her Mum to be saying its 'dirty'. Anyone else share soap or just us? Hmm

I'm not surprised that people still use bar soap!!

Eewww pubes in the soap! Are you dsd you sound as mature as her?

Soap is self cleaning, any sane human knows that, and to wash off any hairs that get on it too.

H and I have own soap, he rubs the bar directly on his body and as much as I love him, I don't want to wash with soap that's been round his sweaty arse crack.

I don't care whether or not it's hygienic, I simply don't share my soap. In part because it's hard (and expensive) to find the stuff my skin likes.

I have no idea if we're sharing soap or not but we have loads of soap types. We have face wash that we definitely share, 2 shower gels and bar soap all in the shower. I use shower gel for my feet, bar soap otherwise and then face wash for my face. I have two shampoos and conditioners to alternate, DH has one shampoo and sometimes uses my conditioner because he commented when I changed brand. It's never occurred to me to ask DH if he uses the bar soap, I don't see why I'd mind if he did or not. The baby has his own soap because he's presumed to be delicate. I always keep bar soap as well as liquid soap in the downstairs toilet so that visitors have whichever they prefer for hands; I'm forever reminding DH not to take the moisturiser out of that toilet because it's there for guests (always ones I want used up).

At PIL, I've used their bar soap in the shower, they've said to use anything so I presumed that was included. My mum has mostly shower gel everywhere, bar soaps at the sinks for the toilet. So in my head, bar soap is clearly not dirty, it's soap.

Seriously, some of the people posting on here sound as though they have about 15 bottles of soap/shower gel/face wash dotted around the house (not to mention shampoo and conditioner)!

Do you really not worry about the environmental impact of this? That plastic mostly goes straight into landfill (or worse loaded onto a ship to China for 'recycling' then dumped at sea).

I'm severely emetophobic so do understand people who freak out about germs, but bar soap is proven to be better at removing germs than liquid soap. Germs cannot survive on soap as it is very alkaline. Just pick off the pubes and you're good to go :)

I somehow think this was a piss take and you've fallen for it hook, line and sinker.

firehousedog1 · 10/09/2018 09:57

People need to know how to use said bar of soap properly. i.e. don't rub it on the body, rub it on a flannel first and use said flannel to wash body with. I don't think I'd be comfortable sharing a bar of soap to wash my face with that someone has been rubbing between their but cheeks for example.

Clionba · 10/09/2018 09:57

Some people were obviously asleep in science lessons! What nonsense.
You're not using the same soap that's been on people's bits, because that's gone! Good grief.

We share. No issues.
