Sharing a bar of soap?

Siobhan8686 · 07/09/2018 13:23

My dp, 2 dc and myself all use soap when we wash/shower/bathe. We all use the same bar of soap. I over heard my dsd on the phone to her Mum telling her we share soap and saying its dirty then they both laughed! Confused apparently they have their own soap because its 'unhygienic' to share. Apparently they have a bar for their feet, a bar to wash their body and a bar to wash their face. So 3 different bars each?! HmmWe have shower gel so dsd uses that but just thought it was rude for her and her Mum to be saying its 'dirty'. Anyone else share soap or just us? Hmm

Wash off the coating of pubes and you’ve good to go!

TooMuchPenis · 07/09/2018 14:04

I'll happily share soap with my kids or dh but wouldn't want to share it with non-fmaily. If it touched a step parents balls/fanjo it would be dead to me.

honeylulu that made me laugh Grin

I share soap with family because AFAIK I lather it onto a washcloth or loofah - I don't rub it directly onto my body or face which is what would be gross to me

negomi90 · 07/09/2018 14:06

I find sharing bars of soap nasty. Its not necessarily scientific, but it just feels wrong. I'm with your dsd on this (though having lots of bars of soaps is also silly and won't be working either)
That's why I always use liquid soaps.

Siobhan8686 · 07/09/2018 14:07

DPotter my mil cleans all her meat before cooking and wont eat out at restaurants or other people's houses because she cant be sure if the meat has been washed Hmm

For a laugh you should buy everyone in the family 3 bars of soap, the same colour for each person.

Issue a document to DSD explaining which colour is hers, which is for head, which for body & which for feet.

The pile them up around the edge of the bath - it'll look like the fecking Berlin wall!!

People have the weirdest ideas about hygiene.

Gersemi · 07/09/2018 14:24

I'd ask them to cite chapter and verse in relation to any fully evidenced peer-reviewed study showing that sharing soap spreads infections.

DollyWilde · 07/09/2018 14:26

DH and I share a toothbrush so I'm probably not the best person to ask about this....

diddl · 07/09/2018 14:26

" If it touched a step parents balls/fanjo it would be dead to me."

Why would it be doing that though?

I thought that people always put soap onto something to use it?

BlackInk · 07/09/2018 14:27

I worry about everything, and have never even thought to worry about this. We switched from liquid soaps and shower gels to bar soaps last Christmas, to reduce our plastic waste.

We have a bar next to each sink in the house and one in the bath/shower. We share these. We're a pretty hirsute bunch and I've never seen anyone's pubes on the soaps.

I wouldn't much like the idea of washing with a soap that might have been rubbed between the buttocks of anyone who's not a close family member though, and teenagers are notoriously grossed out by their parents/step parents.

In this situation I would just encourage your DSD to bring her own soap, or keep a bar for her to use when staying.

Storm4star · 07/09/2018 14:32

This is all bizarre. So people who are saying they put soap on the flannel and not straight on the body. Surely when you wash your hands you don't use a soapy flannel? I don't like the "slimy" feel of shower gels and liquid soap (although I can use imperial leather foam burst) so if I use soap in the shower or bath then yes it goes straight on my body! It's soap! For "intimate" areas, I lather my hands and use them. I do use a flannel on my face but then I don't use soap on my face so I guess the soap that's touching my body isn't touching my face! This is an odd thread!

Ta dah! Problem solved 😀

Soaps are to a varying degree antibacterial and in any case you always rinse afterwards, therefore no issue.
If you really want to 'gross out' look on the BBC website and you will discover that about 60 percent of a human body is comprised of various bacteria.

I now know what to get my dsd's Mum for christmas Grin

I would assume that people aren't rubbing the bar of soap directly onto their privates or bum, you'd lather up in your hands/on a flannel. So sharing a bar shouldn't be a problem.

RollaCola84 · 07/09/2018 14:50

I'm allergic to the stuff that makes liquid soap and shower gel foam so I only use bar soap. I have hand soap and body soap but only because I have one in the shower and one next to sink. Bar soap is literally self cleaning. Strange people. Hmm

SandysMam · 07/09/2018 14:54

I use bar soap but hide it if my mother in law comes to stay. I couldn’t bear it if she used it!!

mammmamia · 07/09/2018 15:04

your DSD arrangement is weird.
We all have our own bar and everyone prefers it that way but only one each!

straightjeans · 07/09/2018 15:20

Depends how you use it. I have only recently learnt that a lot of people just use the bar of soap directly on their body! If that's the case then sharing is gross (TO ME) because it's being swiped between the ass crack and rubbed on genitals.

If it is being rubbed onto a flannel or loofah then I don't see the issue.

Ohyesiam · 07/09/2018 15:29

I always wonder how people who have weird hygiene ideas cope with sex. But as dad exists , I guess her mum must have got over that somehowGrin
I think handsoap is a germ risk, but not within a family, i just remember the days of cracked white soap bars in the school loo , eeeeeeew.
