To think that this year’s blackberry crop is poor?

We usually do really well for blackberries from late August onwards but this year they are all small and sour. I thought that the hot weather might have brought them out early but they’re just a bit bobbins. Are they like this anywhere else? We’re in Warwickshire.

Plum trees heavy with fruit here in north Essex. Plenty of blackberries, apples and sloes.

Like you, Notalotta, massive crop of blackberries here in Norfolk. Apples are bearing down the branches too, but slows and damsons really poor. We're having apple and blackberry crumble every other day.

We've had loads here in South Staffordshire but they've been very early and they're pretty much over now (which is normally when they're just ripe enough).

We’re in NE Scotland and these are our brambles but my sil in NE England has already made jam out of hers.

We’ve got loads of lovely juicy ones. Best year for ages. Preparing to pick the third wave this weekend :)

Plenty in Sainsbury’s in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, big juicy black things in purple punnets, over the border at Waitrose, Daventry, Northamptonshire very much the same but in Morrisons, Somerset pretty much gone, just a couple of much smaller punnets, dusty grey coloured at the bottom of the tray stack.

Wonderful (well was a few weeks ago) along the south coast.

Basically, find a different bush.

These are tried and true patches where we pick every year. There is definitely something different this year (as you might expect).

Fascinated by the regional variations here.

We've had loads, bit of a lull now but I can see the final wave coming on nicely.

It's all about the damsons here at the moment. Today I've made damson jam and roasted damson sorbet. I've got damson gin coming along nicely for Christmas, have recently made damson crumble and damson tart and I seriously need some more ideas because we are heartily sick of the tiny blue bastards.

The devil has definitely pissed on them early round here, East Midlands. They were abundant and luscious three weeks ago, but today they'd gone over. We had enough for DD to have a small bowl after tea, but our plans of getting enough for a crumble were thwarted.

Terrific now in east Norfolk.

lljkk · 06/09/2018 22:58

ps: we have ONE plum on the plum tree, though. ONE. Last year we had > 100!

@jarhead
The crop is immense this year, the lanes between illmington and Shipston are heavily laden with fabulous crop, as are the lanes surrounding Beausale and many more inbetween

Leamington sling the river walk I’ve had very good blackberries
