They are back in Starbucks! AIBU to have one every day because they are addictive?

These drinks contain 12 teaspoons of sugar. I have a sweet tooth but that’s ridiculous.

dontbesillyhenry · 06/09/2018 07:52

The person who said you will have diabetes by Christmas ffs it's hard enough for people with diabetes being judged by others as having a condition they have no control over. Please think before you make such statements in future

boymum9 · 06/09/2018 08:09

Ive had to curb myself to 2 a week, a skinny one with 1 pump of the syrup no cream during the week and a normal one at weekends... haha, it's the calories that make me not do it everyday!!

BigBlueBubble · 06/09/2018 08:10

A: Eating too much sugar and gaining weight is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes.

B: Seriously, get over yourself. It was a light hearted comment not an attack on people with diabetes.

Fluffybat · 06/09/2018 08:29

Yay! I love these soooo much. Thanks for reminding me they exist OP

argumentativefeminist · 06/09/2018 08:34

I adore them. Primarily because they're yummy, but also because they are a battleground for gender politics and the ability to let women fucking enjoy something for once (see also: ugg boots, leggings, Bridget Jones Diary). 😂

Notquiteagandt · 06/09/2018 09:35

They have a new mix this year and its finally dairy free. Tried one for 1st time yesterday and was so disapointed. Felt like I was missing out before. Ahhh well.

BrutusMcDogface · 06/09/2018 09:37

What's "basic" in this context?

argumentativefeminist · 06/09/2018 09:39

Brutus Originates/derives from the phrase "basic white girl", a young woman who likes Starbucks, ugg boots, Fiat 500s, either horses or puppies, Taylor Swift, etc. etc. "Basic" is basically a way of saying that your interests are mainstream and therefore not valid or interesting.

Poodles1980 · 06/09/2018 09:40

Basic is where you enjoy something that’s really main stream and popular. If you don’t like coffee brewed by vestal virgins on mount vagininsous you are basic

5000KallaxHoles · 06/09/2018 09:51

They're horrid. I'm more of a Costa person until Starbucks bring out their Christmassy peppermint hot chocolate.

BrutusMcDogface · 06/09/2018 09:51

Oh! Thank you for the explanation! Ive never heard of "basic white girl".

How offensive!

argumentativefeminist · 06/09/2018 09:55

Brutus it's misogyny packaged up in a "funny" little phrase so that women will use it against each other.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/09/2018 10:00

I don’t like sweet drinks but this is something I want to try.

There are also dozens of recipes online but I suppose it’s not the same.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 06/09/2018 10:01

Basic white girl?? Hmm Confused
Nice!!

And no you're not being unreasonable!
I bloody love them.

PassTheMead · 06/09/2018 10:05

Costa's coffee is dire. Always tastes burnt. I do love a PSL, but must admit I look forward to the Eggnog Latte more. I kind of feel these coffee shops are awful unless you go for something flavoured (to cover up the taste of the actual coffee) but it's lovely for a treat

WickedGoodDoge · 06/09/2018 10:12

God I love these. Unfortunately I’m on a healthy eating kick up until Christmas. Might have one as a Christmas Eve treat. Grin

PickleNeedsAFriendInReading · 06/09/2018 10:22

Distantstars, how do you get a free Starbucks each week?! That sounds good

I like Starbucks coffee. I know it's supposed to be awful but the others are too strong for me. I like the flat white. Or for a sweet treat, a caramel macchiato or peppermint hot mocha. Or in North America, the salted caramel mocha at xmas time. They used to do an orange hot choc as well that was lovely.

I've not tried pumpkin spice though as it sounds odd with milk somehow. They are also advertising a maple one now, assume it's just a flavoured syrup

Never heard 'basic' used like this.

Polarbearflavour · 06/09/2018 10:25

Aldi are selling a Pumpkin Spice liqueur - out from 3rd October and £6.99! Last year I got through 2 of the Bailey’s ones.

Black Forest Hot Choc! Toffee Nut latte! I love autumn / winter.

Basic?

God forbid people like different things. I'll never understand people who mock those for enjoying something, especially something like a coffee that has no impact on them whatsoever. Incredibly sad.

I love a PSL, I'll be having one on Saturday morning.

Oysterbabe · 06/09/2018 10:47

It's easy to remember. If something is delicious it's probably basic. If you want to be sophisticated you have to force yourself to eat things that taste like arse and pretend that you like them.

BrutusMcDogface · 06/09/2018 11:57

Like kale, and cauliflower "rice"?! Grin

ProfessorMoody · 06/09/2018 11:58

And Quinoa.

glueandstick · 06/09/2018 19:13

I had one today. It’s grim. Far far too sweet. I’m so sad. This used to be a joyous intro to autumn. I took it home with me and have diluted it with a latte and it’s much much nicer.

distantstars · 07/09/2018 21:10

@PickleNeedsAFriendInReading
With vitality heath insurance it's fab and I have a drive thru Starbucks's just round the corner..... 👌🏼
