Yeah I know it varies from kid to kid etc but I have absolutely no perspective on what a "healthy, normal" 3 yo eats.

We're weaning ours off special milk slowly for various medical reasons so he's eating more actual food bit I don't actually know how much he should be eating iyswim

The eat if he's hungry thing doesn't work either so no just feed him til he stops

My daughters 3 in December,
So far today she's had:
Breakfast:
2x yogurts with fruit salad ( 1/2 Apple, 3 strawberries, 3 grapes and 2 cherries) it she only ate about half. Followed by a piece of
Toast.

Snack:
Quavers & a babybel.

For lunch we will be having tuna and sweet corn pasta.- she usually eats all the tuna pasta.
She'll have a small sandwich for afternoon snack, then for tea later tonight we will be having chicken and veg skewers with rice tonight. She might have a strawberry/chocolate pudding after.
Again she'll eat most of her tea and her pudding. :)

Ah, like that!

User24689 · 05/09/2018 12:01

My DD is 3 years 1 month and it varies week to week - some weeks she eats really well and others seems to survive on air.

Today she has had:

Breakfast - 2 Weetabix but she only ate one of them

Mid morning - handful of strawberries

Lunch - chicken and sweetcorn soup (at friends house, she would never eat that if I made it!) I would say about half a cup of that.

Afternoon - about 3/4 of a slice of peanut butter on toast

Dinner - one piece of ravioli then declared herself full.

She also has a cup of milk on waking and before bed and often in the afternoon when she's tired as she has recently dropped her nap and it's a comfort thing.

fruitshot · 05/09/2018 12:22

My 3 yr old today;

1 weetabix
Bowl of coco pops

Snack; brioche roll

Lunch; ham sarnie (1 piece of bread) yoghurt, half a bag of crisps, half a half boiled egg (wondering what he plans to do with the other half)

Dinner; he's having pasta and chopped up hotdogs, will probably have some jelly or a yoghurt after.

He refuses fruit, he's a PITA for it, but will go for veggies.

Scotinoz · 05/09/2018 13:12

My youngest is 3yrs and 4mths, and today has had:

Cup of milk
Bowl of Rice Krispies mixed with Cheerios
Slice of toast with jam (she never eats the crusts)

Small carton of apple juice
Organix mini oaty bite biscuit
Mini cheese
Apple (she ate half before handing it over)

Egg sandwich (2 slices of bread, again never eats the crusts)

Afternoon tea is a handful of plain popcorn

Dinner is chicken and pea risotto (it's probably about 3/4 of a cup of cooked risotto from the pan)
Yoghurt (couple of tablespoons)
Fruit (small banana, or tangerine etc)

We use Ikea plastic kids crockery, for portion/size reference.

SleepingStandingUp · 05/09/2018 13:51

I'll have a look at that link, thanks. Google didn't throw up anything helpful like that.

For context of my no idea
for breakfast he had
maybe a tablespoon of dry cereal,

lunch was about 40g cheese
Few crisps
4 smarties

Snack later will be maybe 4 bites of apple or half a bag or crisps or a small chocolate bar

Dinner is chicken which he'll likely refuse so he'll end up with
Half a slice of ham
Small piece of cheese
2 tbsp beans
All eaten if I'm lucky but prob about hf to 2/3 in total

That’s not much food but the special formula is possibly filling him up a lot and he’ll get the hang of more solids as the milk volume reduces.

Mine is a minimal eater but as long as he’s eating at least one food from each food group and growing along his centile ranges I’m not too worried. A vitamin supplement is a good idea unless he’s getting it all from a formula.

SleepingStandingUp · 05/09/2018 14:24

Yeah we tweak formula quantities as we go, and oral feed before tube feed so he gets chance to eat hungry. So why I'm a little lenient on the "naughty" foods lol. Just wanted to give some context to my question.

Good days he'll eat more, especially if melted cheese is available on Dads plate haha

My 3.5 year old is having the following today

IKEA bowl of porridge with two tea spoons of strawberry jam

Lunch - half round ham sandwich, chopped grapes, banana

One sweetie from grandma

Dinner - rice, squash curry and a poppadom. Pudding - rhubarb and custard

I have no idea if that is good/normal. She is a tall child. Slim but not skinny.

Standbyyourmammaryglands · 05/09/2018 14:53

Once the milk reduces his appetite will shoot up as he is getting all his calories from the milk.

My little one has the worst diet and I’m embarrassed to post it! She will happily eat broccoli all day though but I’m afraid you’d call SS if I told you the rest Blush

Daffodils07 · 05/09/2018 14:53

My 3 year old has weetabix for breakfast, at nursery for snack he will normally have carrots,Apple.
For lunch a cheese and cucumber and tomato sandwich (half of a sandwhich) a banana and a packet of quavers.
For dinner he has pasta bolognese and a small yougert.

s0mewherebetween · 05/09/2018 15:34

Today my DS (who turns 4 in nov) has:

Breakfast - 2 pieces of peanut butter toast
Snack - Breadsticks / baby Cucumber
Lunch - cream cheese tortilla, wotsits, 2 mini scotch eggs, Babybel, those fruit gummy bear paw sweets, Banana
Snack - Fruit (strawberry and grapes)
Dinner - meatballs spaghetti, with a yogurt after.
then a cup of milk before bed.

SleepingStandingUp · 05/09/2018 22:20

We've tried not giving the milk Stand and he still doesn't eat much. Last milk at 6.30pm and first at 8.30 am, so he should be plenty hungry for breakfast. Midday milk and lunch then 4 pm milk with dinner at 6 so def time for hunger. He does def get hangey but just doesn't take much to fill him om

DS is 3 and 2 months. Very tall and slim and always moving. Can be quite fussy though with his food at the moment and some allergies

Typically - breakfast 2 weetabix and slice of toast with butter
Snack- apple, maybe a babybel
Lunch - ham sandwich (2 slices of bread but doesn’t eat crusts), slices of cucumber and dairy lee triangle, packet of quavers, fruit or jelly or plain yoghurt and fruit or custard pudding thing
Snack - banana
Tea- those ikea kids plates and bowls portion size. For example 3 Fish fingers with chips and peas or pasta with sausages and veg or chicken with rice. I aim for a balanced meal with a protein carb and veg. We’re visiting grandparents at the moment so there’s definitely more chocolate and sweets available, but the portions are still really small - 2 chocolate buttons and he’s happy (and I can eat the rest). He usually drinks water or milk only

PeaceRaven · 06/09/2018 00:18

Bugger all, or far too much depending on the day and the meals. That said my family is blessed/cursed with a stupidly high metabolism so they will be skinny for years to come. My youngests food for the day:

Breakfast - breakfast bar and milk
Lunch - Kids size plate of cheese, grapes, cucumber, ham and a few crisps.
Snack - they stole my box of maltesers from the cupboard 😡
Tea - half an adults sized bowl of homemade oyster & prawn noodles, and some prawn crackers.
Supper - not hungry, just some milk.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/09/2018 00:23

Actually I wonder if breakfast bars would work, he bloody loves my Hi5 bars from slimming world haha

Hi OP

Please take my idea with a massive pinch of salt as I'm not a mum and I don't know, I don't even know what special milk is... so feel free to ignore. But given he's 3 could he not be just thirsty? All his food seems to be very dry, dry breakfast cereal, crisps, cheese. I know you give him milk but does he have juice or water to wash all the dry stuff down, maybe that would help if you're not doing that already? Just a thought x

Jezzifishie · 07/09/2018 12:13

My nearly 4 year old eats:

Breakfast - cereal or 1 slice of toast, sometimes a piece of fruit too
Morning snack - fruit/veg and something bready (bagel, toast etc)
Lunch - hot meal, something like spaghetti and veg followed by pudding (angel delight, crumble and custard)
Tea - something light like veggie strips and houmous, followed by fruit/yoghurt
Supper (because my child is a hobbit) - small portion of whatever I'm having for dinner
Followed by a glass of milk before bed.

Jezzifishie · 07/09/2018 12:16

Although I must admit that the above is a nursery day, and weekends look very different Blush

usernotfound0000 · 07/09/2018 12:35

3.5 year old, varies day to day as she sometimes never stops eating and other days just picks.
Breakfast - bowl of cereal or a weetabix or a crumpet. Maybe a banana if she's still hungry afterwards. Small cup of milk.
AM snack - fruit (orange/couple of slices of watermelon/grapes) or a piece of malt loaf.
Lunch - sandwich, piece of cheese, cucumber maybe a yogurt after if hungry.
PM snack - breadsticks and houmous or fruit yoyo or kids oaty bar type thing.
Evening meal - whatever we have, just a smaller portion, last night we had beef noodle stir fry. Fruit or yogurt after if still hungry.

Hideandgo · 07/09/2018 12:40

Typical day
Breakfast - yogurt and bowl of low sugar Cheerios

Snack - grapes

Lunch - bagel with cream cheese, glass of milk

Supper 2x choc chip cookies and a banana

PhilomenaButterfly · 07/09/2018 12:41

When mine were 3 they ate pretty much what they eat now, just smaller portions. They all went to nursery class at school.

Breakfast: chocolate pancakes

Snack: fruit

Lunch: school lunch, for eg, fish fingers, chips, peas, baked beans, fruity tray bake and custard

Snack: strawberries and mini sausage rolls

Supper: sausage pasta bake, Cornetto

madeoficecream · 07/09/2018 12:46

my son eats loads! Hes 3 and 3 months.
Yesterday
Breakfast he had a large bowl of porridge, an apricot and a normal sized french set yogurt.
Lunch he had a bowl of pasta with tuna, spinach, sweetcorn, tomatoes and cheese.
Dinner he had a vegetarian pie, a few chips and lots of carrots and peas
He also ate a whole gingerbread man when we were out in town.

He eats only slightly less than me to be honest! He doesnt snack much and prefers big portions at meal times. His weight is fine and he is very active.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/09/2018 12:51

Jovial Nickname he does drink water, won't touch anything else and won't eat anything wet except baked beans. Special milk goes through his tube so doesn't sait thirst but he constantly has water available x
