asking to borrow - cheeky fuckery?

We are getting our kitchen replaced in a couple of months. It's a big job, involves knocking a wall down and it will be at least 2 weeks without full use of a kitchen.

We have a microwave and can plug fridge and freezer in elsewhere in the house. I won't have use of anything else apart from a toaster and a kettle though. Was planning on asking on Facebook whether anyone could lend us any cooking equipment like a george foreman grill, a plug in hob, toastie maker etc etc etc.

DH thinks this is cheeky fuckery and we should just buy stuff. My point is that it's wasteful to buy stuff for using over a very short period only and that we're usually more than happy to lend heaters when someone's boiler breaks down.

Yes to asking on FB.

A friend of a friend lent me a 2 ring electric plug in hob which was a godsend.

I think it would be fine to do a general shout out on Facebook. When our kitchen was being done, I found microwave rice was handy. Microwave chips are foul but I discovered from Mumsnet that you can do potato waffles in the toaster!

Not cheeky at all. I think a general ask on Facebook doesn’t put pressure on people whereas if you asked someone face to face to borrow X, then they might feel they have to do it.

I've got 2 George foremans... a big one and a small sandwich sized one. Also a slow cooker you can have!

I'd ask and I'd be happy to lend a friend stuff. You have a genuine need of it for only a short space of time. Apart from anything else it's bad for the environment to buy new if you don't think you'd use things much after plus it would all take up space in your nice new kitchen cupboards!
