Joyce Vance suggests that Kavangh should agree to recuse himself from any decision that would involve ruling on presidential powers.

There's a good podcast I heard last night, was it Ari Mellor The Beat ? Panel guest pointing out that Nixon was forced by 8:0 vote (+1 recusal) to turn over documents, a vote that included 3 of his own appointees. What I could imagine is Gorsuch-Thomas-Kavanagh voting not to force Trump to comply with a subpoena, but the others (even conservatives) voting that President has to.

Thomas is such an unqualified un-principled scumbag. Can't wait for that sex pest to retire.

I stand w/ Judiciary Committee Democrats who are well within their rights to release these very important documents that a former Kavanaugh deputy designed as “committee confidential.”
The American ppl deserve to know the truth about Judge Kavanaugh’s record.

I love the idea of not giving Trump attention as per that Politico article. But things have changed. I'm a health care professional and feel these days that I have to advise patients I may not be able to do very much for, because if I don't see them and go through the reasons I can't help them very much, they will find actively damaging stuff on the internet to do.

It would be good, though, if they cut off some of the oxygen. Say only one reporter at each WH press session, with pooled copy each day. Say that reporters only say 'The President responded with an electronic message stating that there is a traitor around him' rather than feverishly reprinting all his tweets. Oh well, won't happen.

KevinTheYuccaPlant · 06/09/2018 17:02

I've found a way to make reading Trump news slightly less depressing - read it on the BBC's Pidgin site.

e.g. Trump calls President Buhari 'lifeless': Na insult to Nigeria - Diplomat

"Donald Trump owe Nigeria and Africa apology." Prof. Alabi explain.

E say Nigeria goment suppose order di US ambassador make e come explain wetin dia president mean, say e no dey okay for Nigeria minister of Information to just react to di mata.

Ambassador Suleiman Dahiru dey feel di same way.

E say Mr Trump get mouth diarrhoea and like to tok yama-yama tins.

lion linked to this Atlantic piece upthread, but this extract below is worth reviewing imho:
James Fallows
@JamesFallows
Great, impassioned, tough, and IMO correct piece by @DavidFrum, on what’s wrong with the anonymous Trump critiques (link: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2018/09/this-is-a-constitutional-crisis/569443/) theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/

'And those who do not quit or are not fired in the next few days will have to work even more assiduously to prove themselves loyal, obedient, and on the team. Things will be worse after this article. They will be worse because of this article.

The new Bob Woodward book set the bad precedent. The high official who thought the president so addled that he would not remember the paper he snatched off his desk? Those who thought the president stupid, ignorant, beholden to Russia—and then exited the administration to return to their comfortable, lucrative occupations? Who substituted deep-background gripe sessions with a reporter for offering detailed proof of presidential unfitness, or worse, before the House or Senate? Yes, better than the robotic servility of the public record. But only slightly.

What would be better?

Speak in your own name. Resign in a way that will count. Present the evidence that will justify an invocation of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment, or an impeachment, or at the very least, the first necessary step toward either outcome, a Democratic Congress after the November elections.

Your service in government is valuable. Thank you for it. But it is not so indispensable that it can compensate for the continuing tenure of a president you believe to be amoral, untruthful, irrational, antidemocratic, unpatriotic, and dangerous. Previous generations of Americans have sacrificed fortunes, health, and lives to serve the country. You are asked only to tell the truth aloud and with your name attached.'

@mkraju
As she entered the hearing room, Sen. Kamala Harris didn’t provide more details about why she questioned Kavanaugh about a conversation he may have had with a Kasowitz lawyer on Mueller probe.
“I have a good reason to believe there was a conversation,” Harris said to us.

Asked what she was basing it off of, she said: ”Information that I’ve received that’s pretty reliable and I asked him a clear question and he couldn’t give a clear answer.”
Has she seen any documentation of this? “I can’t give you more than that.”

As I recall she also warned him to be careful or certain with his answer.

Moderately Moderate
@Moderate_ish
I thought that was smart. She warned him that his answer would be important. There will be no credible arguing later if something damning comes out that he didn't realize what was being asked, and you can hardly call it a "perjury trap" if she actually says, "be careful".

Yes she's an experienced prosecutor.

Kavanaugh's eventual answer is at the other link, but I don't have time to transcribe it: mobile.twitter.com/Phil_Mattingly/status/1037722267994804225

Sorry to repeat this, but I think this might be important. Kav is denying having any "inappropriate" conversations at his law firm about an investigation. But not that he had conversations about it.
