Just that really. Are they useful? What do you use them for?
Sorry it’s not really an Aibu

Beetroot, pulses and beef mainly..
I love mine!

dontticklethetoad · 04/09/2018 19:45

Buy one. You won't regret it!

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 04/09/2018 19:47

Mine is one of the few things in my kitchen I would replace instantly if it broke. Fab for soups, pulses, stews. Food tastes a million times better than anything in a slow cooker.

ShinyMe · 04/09/2018 19:49

My mum has one that must be 50+ years old. She uses it regularly, most often to cook up chicken or turkey carcasses for stock.

DragonScales · 04/09/2018 19:51

I have an instant pot (bought during an Amazon black Friday sale) and it's the most amazing thing ever. I use it most days, sometimes as a slow cooker, sometimes as a pressure cooker and other times just to boil rice or potatoes.

I pressure cook Thai curry, loads of lentil based meals, risotto, Indian curries, ribs (although need to be finished off under the grill) , soups, etc. I love the fact it has a sautee function so I can get onions/garlic/meat in it before I cook the rest.

Aquamarine1029 · 04/09/2018 19:52

You would have to pry my Instant Pot out of my cold, dead hands. I absolutely love it and use it at a minimum 2 times a week.

Mokepon · 04/09/2018 19:52

Watching with interest. How do you use it? Dont they explode if you do it wrong?
I'd like one as my granny cooks amazing stuff in hers but I'm a little bit scared I'd blow up the kitchen!

Aquamarine1029 · 04/09/2018 19:53

I use mine for soups, curries, whole chickens, beef stew, eggs, rice, mashed potatoes, beans, practically everything.

MIdgebabe · 04/09/2018 19:54

Very useful. cuts down the cooking times for beans and pulses, stews, soups and keeps flavour in. Use for cheap cooking... cheap cuts of meat. Useful especially after work when you are starving, and brilliant for campervan also. Best Christmas dinner ever was a pheasant cooked on top of potatoes in the pressure cooker.

Aquamarine1029 · 04/09/2018 19:55

The Instant Pot is completely safe and nearly foolproof. However, I would never use a stovetop pressure cooker. The have always scared the hell out of me.

HemanOrSheRa · 04/09/2018 19:55

Me too Aquamarine1029 Grin. I'm making honey and mustard chicken in my instant pot right now!

Numberofthemouse · 04/09/2018 19:57

I've used my instant pot every night this week! It's amazing!

NoodieRoodie · 04/09/2018 19:58

I've just about got over my fear of mine, so much so that when it broke I instantly replaced it! I cook soups, stews, beetroot, joints of ham. I find it excellent for pie filling, steak and kidney that would take a couple of hours in the oven takes 30 minutes and just needs thickening.

MsHomeSlice · 04/09/2018 19:58

yes, the Instant Pot is my favourite thing! I have got rid of my steamer and slowcooker and am officially in love with the IP.

I'd run back into a burning building for it!

Cumberlover76 · 04/09/2018 20:00

I love my pressure cooker. Got a £200 Kuhn Rikon one for £50 from Amazon warehouse and it's amazing. Also the Catherine Phipps Pressure Cooker Cookbook has fantastic recipies and really helps you learn how to use it for everything. 20 min to cook a whole chicken!! Plus the ribs are to die for! Do it, you won't regret it, but get the best you can afford so it's got a good bottom.

PawneeParksDept · 04/09/2018 20:01

Instant Pot all the way

GAMECHANGER

Angie169 · 04/09/2018 20:04

I love mine , it belonged to my gran she had for many years before I got my mitts on it , I have had it for about 30 years now .
It gets used as a pressure cooker more in the cooler months for soups , stews , currys etc . In the warmer months it just gets used as a BIG pan . I cremated food in mine quite often when I first got it due to not knowing how to use it / how much water to put in and not been familiar with dried pulses but there was never any danger whatsoever of it exploding.
I am planing to do a Oxtail stew in mine at weekend , I have a slow cooker as well but I tend to use that when I am at work . I love them both

washewihersen · 04/09/2018 20:07

I got a Sage Fast Slow Pro last year but I think it basically does the same as an instant pot plus it slow cooks. You can sautée in it too to get more flavour in at the beginning but even so, slow vs pressure cooking, pressure cooking wins on flavour every time.

Angie169 · 04/09/2018 20:07

Whats all this Instant Pot talk , what is one ? I have never heard of it .
( I thought you all meant some sort of pot noodle instant sanck thing at first Confused )

PawneeParksDept · 04/09/2018 20:11

@washewihersen you can slow cook and sauté in an IP, and also make yoghurt, porridge and some cakes

WomblingWoman · 04/09/2018 20:17

I don't have an instapot - just a standard pressure cooker.

I use it at least twice a week - often more.

I don't understand why people have slow cookers tbh when you can have a pressure cooker that cooks in less time and with less energy.

I can stack cook in mine - so meat/fish/veg and it has different levels of "pressure" to accommodate.

Has a timer that you can disconnect from the lid and take with you to the next room so you know when it's done.

As a general pan it's deep and great for pasta.

Mine is a fairly high end tefal one (that I bought after the one I'd inherited from my GM - which was hissy and scary finally died).

Still a lot cheaper than an instapot and aside from the remote timings I'm not sure there's that much difference.

I love it and would replace it - but with the same again.

chchchnamechanges · 04/09/2018 20:18

Love my pressure king pro. Makes fab curry.

Imustbemad00 · 04/09/2018 20:19

Thank you. I’m convinced.
King pro was recommended to me?

Littlebluebird123 · 04/09/2018 20:28

Instant pot all the way.

My friend has a king pro and there's no comparison.

There's a (mainly) great fb page of support/tips/recipes for instant pot too.

Complete gamechanger for my cooking.

Basmati rice perfect each time.

Risotto us amazing and super quick too.

(Just to name a couple.)
