Anyone else horrified by alarming amount in dyson handheld?

Every time I use it, perhaps 3/4 times a week it's filled with hideousness! I clean a normal amount and we are not a particularly messy family, but I now have dyson shame every single use. Please tell me it's not just me? If it is I'm reverting to the Henry Hoover where the shame is hidden Grin

I think mine lasts 20 minutes for a whole charge, however I never seem to use a whole one up at once. It takes less than 10 minutes to vacuum downstairs, upstairs is done less frequently as there's less traffic.

BMW6 · 04/09/2018 18:14

I recently bought a Dyson Animal V8 cordless. Totally love it - whole house vacuumed and "dusted" on one charge. Expensive £339 but I think worth it.

HidingFromMyKids · 04/09/2018 18:19

I've a v7 and I think the same.

Don't have an issue with it running out of charge but I don't have a huge house.

ToadOfSadness · 04/09/2018 18:19

Do you ever wonder how much of your carpet is being sucked up?

It seems that a fair bit of the stuff is the same colour as the carpet, although a fair bit is also dust and hair/fur. A maintenance man once told me that they 'rip the guts out of your carpets' - his words not mine.

superram · 04/09/2018 18:24

Place marking

Hellomumsne · 04/09/2018 18:25

YES!! I was just thinking this a couple of days ago. I do a quick hoover if a small area that I've thoroughly cleaned only a couple of days before and it's half full of fluff and dust!! And I empty it after every use. I don't know where the all fluff comes from. They are amazing little hoovers though.

OftenHangry · 04/09/2018 18:28

This happened to me when I changed from a crappy little argos one to a proper hoover!

I drowned my embarrassment in a bottle of wine while lying on the cleanest carpet I have ever encountered in my life....Grin

Try hoovering your mattress... I couldn't sleep after seeing how much of dust it sucked out😲 Still a bit ashamed and scared

Itsatravesty · 04/09/2018 18:36

Mine is currently out in the back garden after I sooked up a mahoosive spider that was crawling on ds's chest Shock. They're handy wee things that's for sure.

Angrybird345 · 04/09/2018 18:37

Have you hoovered your mattress?? Be prepared!!

Dysons start off good then the battery doesn’t hold its charge so it’s expensive crap.

Imnotacelebgetmeouttahere · 04/09/2018 18:38

Anyone with a dyson who needs a new one...get a shark.

Then you'll know the true meaning of mortified Grin I hovered before mine arrived then thought " oh ill give it a quick try!"....2.5hrs later Envy

Twinmama32 · 04/09/2018 18:40

OftenHangry good grief not tried it on the mattresses, I'll save that delight for my day off!

So.much. Hair

ShirleyPhallus · 04/09/2018 18:44

Another shout for a Shark! I love mine so much!

Agree on vacuuming your mattress. It’s grim.

5000KallaxHoles · 04/09/2018 19:04

They always look guilt inducing especially on the first few run throughs. Mine is less so now since I tend to use it daily on the new one we've got (a V10).

I never do the full house in one go - I hate hoovering. I'll take it upstairs with me when I go for a pee and then detour around the bedrooms, or I'll grab the stair bit and just whizz up the stairs while the adverts are on the telly - I have hoovering ADHD or something and it feeds my "little and often" hoover addiction.

MsHopey · 04/09/2018 19:27

My family got my one for my birthday. I have a dog and a baby, but only a one bedroom flat. And yes, it is nearly full after one quick sweep of the flat.
But it's the best things I've ever had, again, a dog and a baby! It's so quick and easy to run round the living room with it, keeping it dog hair and dust free!

OftenHangry · 04/09/2018 19:59

@Twinmama32 I recommend a day when you don't have to do much the next one Grin I had really bad sleep and wanted to hoover it again just in case😂

OftenHangry · 04/09/2018 20:00

I hovered before mine arrived then thought " oh ill give it a quick try!"....2.5hrs later

Exactly same here. I felt like a needed a shower after seeing how "filthy" we were😂

underneaththeash · 04/09/2018 20:01

Its just dust.....dust.....

flopsyrabbit1 · 04/09/2018 20:41

had mine 2 weeks and noticed not so much dust but more grit etc so im guessing its now able to go further into the pile

Drummingisfun · 04/09/2018 22:20

Now I'm wondering about my mattress... But it has a thick mattress protector and we turn it every fortnight when we change the sheets. How bad can it be?

hungryhippo90 · 04/09/2018 22:26

So glad I clicked on this! I thought ah maybe it’s as good as the shark, seeing all the shark comments makes me excited, I’ve been permitted to order a new shark by DH.

Exciting!! 😍😍😍😍

JaceLancs · 04/09/2018 22:27

I only need to empty my dyson after a few uses
I assume we don’t create much dust as 2 adult household who are both out most of the time
Plus 2 short haired cats who spend most of their time outside too

JustJoinedRightNow · 04/09/2018 22:28

Yes, I was addicted to vacuuming the carpeted parts of our place when we first got it. But it’s so gross, it fills up so quickly with what looks like dirt and sand?? Our house is tidy and not dirty (or so I thought!)

OftenHangry · 04/09/2018 22:29

@Drummingisfun oh my sweet summer child😂

Knitjob · 04/09/2018 22:31

What shark do you have? I'd like to buy one. Can't believe the cost of the twin battery ones.
