To ask you about thick tights

What tights do I need to get that will not go see through at the top like these ones in the picture? I'm needing size 20 also. Leggings frowned upon in my industry.

To ask you about thick tights

Thank you. I haven't ever heard of Boyes - just googled and the nearest is 78 miles away. Just going to have a look to see if they sell online. DD says the older girls at school wear flesh coloured tights (the only alternative allowed to thick black) but she dislikes these so wants to wear black woolly ones again. Opaque etc ones aren't allowed.

Storm4star · 03/09/2018 18:58

@LandOr
You can buy them all over the place. All the high street stores. Yes they weirdly match leg length to weight! Which is ridiculous if you're tall and slim! When I was a size 12 I still had to buy tights which were supposedly for a size 16 as I have long legs! Otherwise they'd be halfway down my bum in an hour! But yes definitely go for the adult ones. I find woolly tights much more cosy and comfy than opaque ones too.

SynchroSwimmer · 03/09/2018 19:00

I always rated highly the Boots own brand black firm support tights.

I didn't actually need support tights as such, just that they are extremely hardwearing and go a whole autumn winter through the wash and still going strong the next spring.

If buying on 3 for 2 offer it’s more affordable.

(Just realised I still have some 10 year old ones tying up my apple trees to the metal stakes in the garden - they are (were) that good!) 😁

100% reccomed snag tights - I'm a size 24 and these tights are so good

Land0r · 03/09/2018 19:03

Storm4star Thank you. I've been looking for girls' tights all over the place, but I think I need to change tack and look for ladies' tights now. Primary does age 15-16 but only in grey not black according to the lady in the second Primark I tried. Asda does 15-16 but are sold out online and our local store doesn't have them. DD is tall and slim with long legs, so thanks for the warning about sizing!

Tiredtomybones · 03/09/2018 19:05

Sainsbury's woolly tights are brilliant.

emwithme · 03/09/2018 19:08

Both John Lewis and Asda do 300 denier tights that are thicker than some of my cheaper leggings.

hendricksy · 03/09/2018 19:08

100 denier , size up then they won't pull on the legs like that .

barbiemummy20 · 03/09/2018 19:13

I have just ordered tights from snag tights, I have ordered 80 denier, they are meant to be good for curvy ladies, I am a 22 with a yummy and white tall they have a chart with body shape, dress size and height to help determine which size to buy x

Gwenhwyfar · 03/09/2018 19:16

How would anyone know whether you were wearing tights or leggings if you've got boots on?

Storm4star · 03/09/2018 19:21

LandOr, you're right. I haven't bought new tights for a while and just looked online and they seem to be very scarce now! I found these ones that might work?

Land0r · 03/09/2018 19:40

Storm4star Brilliant, thank you! I'd forgotten all about H&M. Now to work out what size DD1 needs!

Storm4star · 03/09/2018 19:56

Lol. how tall is she?

Storm4star · 03/09/2018 19:58

OP. good point from Gwen. I have a few shirt dresses that I have worn in the winter with leggings and boots and I'm sure no one had any idea whether they were tights or leggings.

kaytee87 · 03/09/2018 19:58

120 denier tights but I'd also wear longer dresses.

kaytee87 · 03/09/2018 19:59

Yes to sizing up, I always do this in tights. Stops them falling down.

BloodyWorried · 03/09/2018 20:00

Asda 300 denier tights

fromroses · 03/09/2018 20:04

Primark have 200 denier tights, done with a fleece lining and some without but they're full tights as in they have feet. Cheap as chips (under a fiver) and they fit a 20 in XL.

Tanaqui · 03/09/2018 20:07

Does anyone else think all the snag recommendations read like advertising?!

nokidshere · 03/09/2018 22:01

@Tanaqui

It's the first time I have ever posted a response online to something I have bought. I was so surprised at how fab they are I went back and posted. So at least one of the reviews is true 😁👍🏻

argumentativefeminist · 03/09/2018 22:27

Another vote for snag tights! The reason it sounds like advertising is because loads of people are mentioning them on loads of threads.... And the reason for that is because it's so bloody frustrating to try to wear tights as a fat woman. I cried when I tried on my first snag order. Now I can wear all my pretty dresses in comfort and confidence (I'm sounding like an advert again 😂).

trevormcdonald · 03/09/2018 23:06

I got thermal tights from TKMaxx and I LOVE them.

Katescurios · 03/09/2018 23:10

Yep buying tights as a fat gal is a pain in the ass. You buy the biggest, longest size in the shop and fair enough theyre long enough, but the waist and bum/crotch bit is so tight and under sized the tights either squash you and give a really bad line of bulge across your middle while hurting like a bitch. Or they roll down all day.

If i buy any that are advertised as my actual size, being 5 foot 8 they dont actually go all the way up my legs so the gussett is half way down my thighs.

I end up going bare legged as far through the year as i can, till my legs are blue with cold, then put my dresses away till late spring and switch to trousers.

Needsleepneedsleep · 03/09/2018 23:11

Yours Clothing.

FarrahMoan · 03/09/2018 23:16

Katescurios I'm 5'10 and know exactly what you mean. I've given up on tights because the gusset would drop and rub
