ABIU not to let the GPs see LO on her 1st Birthday???

My LO is weeks away from approaching her first birthday. Me and OH decided we would do something with both sets of Grandparents the weekend and we would spend her actual birthday on the Thursday just the three of us.

My parents are fine with this, but my OH's mum is upset she won't see her on the actual day and has made her feelings well known.

Even if she popped in for a coffee it wouldn't just be half an hour it would turn into the whole entire morning. We wouldn't actually be able to do what we want to do with her in between naps and feeds.

Any advice would be much appreciated

yabu. You might have the right to do what you want, but it’s a bit unnecessarily mean. Birthdays are special. Your kid may not realise this year or next year even but they will absolutely choose to have their gp with them on their birthday if they could assuming you normally have a good relationship with them. It’s just a normal day with just mum and dad. Grandparents make it special.

YANBU. Parents get to choose. GPs do not get to demand anything. They have been given a time to all come and celebrate.

YANBU why do Grandparents think they can bustle in on everything. You are your own family unit and should be able to do what you want without being made to feel bad. It's not their kid it's yours and you don't get those moments, days, dates back. Make the most of being selfish whilst they're little and you get the choice to before they'll have their own wants. I also agree it's never quick visits they'll stay as long as they can....once in you can't get them out. It seems to be a thing that extended family think they have a right in to your family and household and don't accept it's not about them and what they want, they've had their time. It's your time now. Rant over just bugs me this kind of problem where they cause arguments and issues with you and them and with partners. 😡 Do what you want and don't think twice about it. Enjoy the day 😊

I'm glad our family doesn't work like yours.

No give and take. No wanting to be together.

You obviously have had bad experiences with yours.

There seem to be a couple of bad experiences on here judging by the almost hysterical outbursts.
