"Professionals on Naked Attraction"

JimWilsonBell · 02/09/2018 00:41

I actually am in two minds about this.....

So I'm a registered nurse and I'm quite sure the NMC would probably have something to say about this "bringing the profession in to disrepute" or something similar.

But equally I'm very open about being naked in the proper situation ie home with family, beach, changing rooms. I'm a big girl but have good body confidence and I believe this comes from my mum being the same. AND I think that if more people were cool about being naked and confident then less people would have hang ups about their bodies.

BUT what happens if a patient, client, parent sees the program?

I’m curious about this too - I’m a teacher and it’s in my contract that we have to ask the Head if we want to go on television in case we take the school into disrepute! (I have a feeling there’s a brilliant story behind that clause...)

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 02/09/2018 00:59

Excuse me but wtf would anyone with more than 2 brain cells want to go on that programme?

EBearhug · 02/09/2018 01:00

I have wondered about that, too. I'm fine with being naked round the house and in changing rooms. I'm not so sure I'd be fine with being naked on national TV, because a colleague might see, and I'd still have to work with them. I don't have to worry about patients or students or anyone like that, but even if I am not that bothered about nudity, that doesn't mean anyone I work with needs to think of me that way.

JimWilsonBell · 02/09/2018 01:24

Aintnothing - I've seen professionals on there- like people who actually have proved to have more than 2 brain cells, Social workers and nurses (although they didn't say what kind of nurse).

I love to watch it with my kids (14&20) because they'll see all sorts of normal naked bodies and it will ward off the evil body image portrayed by the media and porn. Last week there was a polyamory couple on there, something I know my daughter is open minded too.

OP posts:
SingingSands · 02/09/2018 01:24

I agree with @Aintnothingbutaheartache

Just... why?

JimWilsonBell · 02/09/2018 01:30

I wouldn't go on the program because I'm not single AND I wouldn't want patients to recognise me. I think I'd be THAT Nurse who went naked in telly!! I also think I don't think consultants could take me seriously after seeing me naked on telly. "No Dr Blah blah he needs a MRI today I'm worried!!" "Yeah right Nurse Fanny flaps!!"

OP posts:
Aintnothingbutaheartache · 02/09/2018 01:42

I’m sure I’m going to regret this but.....
Why oh why oh fucking why would anyone want to appear on national tv to be judged according to their naked physique?
Doesn’t this sound in any way vaguely shallow to anyone?

BlancheM · 02/09/2018 01:49

I agree aint. It's just bloody awful.

JimWilsonBell · 02/09/2018 02:25

Well you certainly won't regret having a different opinion to me - and why the bloody hell should you!!! I asked the question to hear other opinions a wide range of answers!!

Anyway.....it's like the Blind date and take me out kinda program (all trash TV) but entertaining, only it's naked people and I find it fascinating in our rather prudish society! Let's face it if there's nude people on telly it's usually old fat nudists that are viewed as weirdos or pretty young people with perfect genitalia!! It's a different way of people dating other than the filtered pictures of online dating. I'm interested in what people think of professional upstanding members of society being nude on TV.

OP posts:
JimWilsonBell · 02/09/2018 02:28

And I don't think it's vaguely shallow I think most of society is becoming shallow and actually this is different. Can I ask if you've watched it? It's really not ex on the beach or love island - which I do find bloody awful and narcissistic.

OP as a registered nurse whats your medical opinion on the removal of pubic hair.

dalmatianmad · 02/09/2018 02:35

I wondered if she was a carer rather than a registered nurse?

Surely she would be hauled before the NMC?? I can't understand why any health care professional would go on a show like this? Hmm

wellthismakesnosense · 02/09/2018 03:00

I’d be surprised if any professional in any kind of capacity you have given as examples would take part, particularly those in front line/ front facing roles to the public / clients / patients etc for all the reasons suggested and more. I am astounded that a social worker has been on it and that their employers would have been ok with that. Most professionals in these kind of roles are advised to go by a different name on their Facebook profiles, for example, but yet ok to go on TV naked? I am surprised!

SlimGin · 02/09/2018 03:22

I need to pay more attention to their jobs next time, the only ones I remember are students or people who work in fields where getting naked on tv isn't a big no-no.
Anyway, I agree with you that it's fantastic to see different types of naked on TV, and I love the scientific reasoning they give behind why people are attracted to tattoos, big bums, etc. However the premise of the show is stupid. I'm not sure how seeing someone naked first is a hoof refining method for choosing who to date? They never rationalise it well either!

SerenDippitty · 02/09/2018 05:49

Wtf in their right mind would want to date someone who is prepared to expose their naked bodies on TV? The whole thing screams narcissism.

littlecabbage · 02/09/2018 05:59

I love to watch it with my kids (14&20) because they'll see all sorts of normal naked bodies and it will ward off the evil body image portrayed by the media and porn.

I watched it for the first time last week and was surprised that every woman had a completely hairless pubic area. Surely that helps to reinforce porn's message that all women should remove their pubic hair?

herecomesthsun · 02/09/2018 06:33

I think it is an extension of the idea that it is acceptable or a good idea to send nude pics as an early part of the dating process.

I'm not a nurse but have worked with quite a few.

The culture in the workplace is far from prudish, but I think you would never live it down. Quite apart from anything else, would you want to hear the same old jokes for the rest of your working life?

WeirdAndPissedOff · 02/09/2018 06:44

Would anyone really be in professional trouble for doing this?
It might not be quite "respectable", but it's harmless. I suspect most who go on it see it as a bit of a laugh.

You would be rembered for it though - we have a colleague who was on Don't Tell The Bride a few years back, and even now she'll be asked about it by clients, or you'll hear colleagues introducing her then adding "oh, and she was on DTTB!.

And I agree that while the premise of the show doesn't make sense, it is nice to see a range of "normal" bodies. Most are hair less as PP said, but I suppose thats mostly to be expected, and you do get a couple who aren't.

Duchessgummybuns · 02/09/2018 06:54

I personally love the show, it’s nice to see a different range of bodies on tv and has been quite eye opening. Of course the concept is shallow but I think that’s the point, I’m not sure it’s supposed to be taken too seriously.

That said, I wouldn’t go on myself as I wouldn’t want my colleagues to see me and I do wonder about how people that do go about their daily lives after. A chap from my town went on and everyone still references his enormous pendulous balls Blush

BlancheM · 02/09/2018 09:37

How is it not vaguely shallow when the whole point of the show is to judge someone's body parts with their kit off and dismiss the ones whose bits don't do it for you.
It's not even presented as being anything deeper. It's purely about which body you would want to fuck.

Aeroflotgirl · 02/09/2018 09:40

I do watch it sometimes if there is nothing else on TV, why would anyone go nekkid on TV, millions of viewers looking at your body, your mum, dad, brothers, sisters, boss, family friends, no thank you. Be happy with yourself, but on TV noway, I have pride.

BartholinsSister · 02/09/2018 09:45

Surely that helps to reinforce porn's message that all women should remove their pubic hair?

Porn's message must be lost on the women you see in porn who don't remove all their pubic hair.

UtterlyBatty · 02/09/2018 09:47

I saw this programme for the first time the other night and was appalled - just flicking through the channels and suddenly there's a line of close-up, disembodied vulvas (and yes, all hairless, natch Hmm). I was Shock Angry - it that what dating has become, just assessing a pair of legs and a naked snatch to see if you fancy fucking it? And you think that's a good thing to watch with your teenage kid? Shock

heavymetalheatherhead · 02/09/2018 09:50

Two physiotherapists were struck off for having photos of themselves naked skiing on Facebook. That probably gives you your answer Confused

HashTagLil · 02/09/2018 09:55

OP as a registered nurse whats your medical opinion on the removal of pubic hair.

Why does their professional opinion on this subject matter? Confused
