To get the fear half way through putting on my mascara?

PissPotPourri · 31/08/2018 07:27

Every single day.
I finish one eye and then I get a stress flutter in my stomach for fear that the door bell will ring or I'll get interrupted by one of the (many) dc and I'll have to answer the door or go around for the rest of the day like the cover from The Clockwork Orange.
Does anyone else get this?

Haha every time! Glad it’s not just me.

Also, I need to leave my eyeliner wings alone when I get them looking half decent. I keep making little adjustments and then before I know it I’m an Amy Winehouse tribute act.

LastOneDancing · 31/08/2018 08:03

I can only dream of a life where my mascara is so intricate that I couldn't apply it while running down the stairs to answer the door!

Genuine question - what's your mascara routine if it's not 'apply mascara' and takes longer than 3 seconds? Maybe 20 if I'm feeling fancy & go for a second coat.

lowtide · 31/08/2018 08:05

No it’s ridiculous

peachypetite · 31/08/2018 08:06

How odd.

Itchytights · 31/08/2018 08:06

Absolutely ridiculous

Is this really a big issue? If you're interrupted then finish it afterwards...

I'm so glad Duchess got in first and confirmed I'm not alone or I'd be feeling like a complete dick.
Re my beauty regime, it is literally moisturiser and mascara. Never anything more. I do have particularly long lashes so if I'm heavier handed on one side than the other it is fairly obvious.
I know the chances of being interrupted are slim...but it happened once and now the fear is real

Racecardriver · 31/08/2018 10:09

But surely you would just finish? It take what, a total of ten seconds if you curl them?

Imstickingwiththisone · 31/08/2018 10:15

What mascara do you use op as the difference in my eyelashes before and after I put mascara on is minimal! I could only mess up by missing my eye completely.

kaytee87 · 31/08/2018 10:18

This is so weird Grin if you'd be that bothered about answering the door with odd eye lashes then just finish your mascara before you answer.
You say you have very long eyelashes, why not go once a month to get them tinted and permed then no more need for mascara (and stress flutters 😂)!

DrFoxtrot · 31/08/2018 10:42

YABU Confused I would guess that most people don't suffer from mascara related 'fear'.

iklboo · 31/08/2018 10:45

Pah! Mascara is a doddle - I once went out with only one leg shaved after being interrupted in the middle of a de-fuzz Grin

PissPotPourri · 31/08/2018 10:58

Nah, they do not need curling, they curl naturally. But the effect of mascara is massive on me. If I ever don't wear it I get asked if I'm ill. And I don't think I'm particularly pedantic about its application but it does take about 3 minutes.

Also, tinting wouldn't do anything either. They're dark. The mascara makes the difference from thickness I think.
To whomever it was that asked... I use max factor masterpiece

Nice stealth boast OP Hmm

I ordered new makeup and tried it out.

A different colour palette on each eye and blush on one cheek only.

I probably took in 3 parcel deliveries before catching sight of myself in a mirror.

So no, you're not bu, but try that out as exposure therapy.

Not one of the delivery people said a word.

Bestseller · 31/08/2018 11:07

No because I can't imagine anything that could wait long enough for me to finish both eyes.

When DC were small I used to end up with snot over my legs a lot so when getting dressed for work I used to leave my skirt off until the last minute. I did have recurrent nightmares about leaving the house in a rush without it.

PissPotPourri · 31/08/2018 11:15

I don't know where you all live, but if a delivery person knocks around here, they don't bother waiting for 90 seconds for you to get to the door! Sometimes we're lucky if they actually knock at all.

Baume that's hilarious! DM once put lipstick on thinking it was lip balm, so in a circular motion rather than along her actual lipline. She went to work where she was in a position of high responsibility at the time ...and didn't notice until lunch.

DrFoxtrot · 31/08/2018 11:20

I'm struggling to understand the root of the fear.

Is it that the delivery person or whoever will see you with one eye done and one eye not? If so, there will probably come a time when you realise that nobody else cares.

Is it that you are worried that going back to do the second eye that it won't look equal as your momentum has gone?

DrFoxtrot · 31/08/2018 11:21

I can understand eyeliner as it has to be more precise but mascara Confused

Duchessgummybuns · 31/08/2018 11:38

That said it’s not actually something I’m genuinely concerned about... it’s just when kids are bothering me etc and I’m trying really hard not to blink I always end up blinking and making a mess. It’s no big deal, quick swab with a cotton bud and I’m good to go Smile

PissPotPourri · 31/08/2018 11:39

Yes i guess that's it Dr. Going about looking odd (er). And of course I know nobody else would really care. But it's personal standards, isn't it?
I think badly applied mascara is obvious on me. Like eye liner on some others
