Who is in the wrong??

So we've recently moved out of rented accommodation. The house was falling apart and the landlord would not do any of the improvements needed, just wanted to put our rent up by £50 a month..
eg, had a massive leak in the bathroom a year ago and water started to pour through the kitchen ceiling. Letting agents came round and drilled about 20 holes in the ceiling to release the water, but then refused to fix the holes. We had no working radiator in our girls bedroom and when we had the really bad snow I asked for it to be fixed and was told no.
Conservatory was taped up everywhere due to leaks.
Bad mound around all the windows and window sills... just to name a few.

We moved out last month and the check was done and our full deposit returned to us.

Husband has had a phone call this morning from the letting agents to say we've got to go back and remove an old trampoline we'd taken down and left down the side of the house (gated area so we completely forgot about it)

Am I right in thinking they are taking the piss?? All the problems we had in that house (we even paid for some improvements like a new bathroom floor because we were sick of waiting)

Husband said he will remove it, I've told him they shouldn't even be contacting us now as we are nothing to do with them and tell them to piss off. Plus it's not our fault they didn't mention it when they did the check. Everything else with the house was left in clean, good condition.

So AMIBU or are the letting agents??
(Landlord lives overseas)

If its your trampoline, you are responsible for moving or disposing of it

user1483387154 · 30/08/2018 11:59

You should remove it

Nicknacky · 30/08/2018 12:01

It’s your trampoline. It’s yours to get rid of not the letting agents.

Wineandchoc · 30/08/2018 12:01

Definitely your job to remove it. I'm actually surprised you got your deposit back before it was done.

MorseandLewis · 30/08/2018 12:01

Of course you need to go and get it. Or advertise it on gumtree for free and meet the person at the house

violet0805 · 30/08/2018 12:02

Should have mentioned the trampoline has been taken down. It's not in one piece.

Let them deal with it. They didn’t fulfil their end of the deal while you were paying for the service. They can dispose of a trampoline.

Knittedfairies · 30/08/2018 12:03

Why didn’t they see you’d left it when they checked? If you’ve got your deposit back I can’t see what they could do if you didn’t remove it.

Dilemmacentral · 30/08/2018 12:04

I would be inclined to say that given how they let you down doing fundamental maintenance, you will leave them to dispose of it.

violet0805 · 30/08/2018 12:05

@Wineandchoc

Check was done, signed off and new tenants have moved in!

ThatFridayFeeling · 30/08/2018 12:06

Yeah you "should" remove it... But I wouldn't if I were you. They've not gone out of their way to help you when they had a duty to do so, you don't owe them that in return (might sounds petty but fuck em)

Cronesquerness · 30/08/2018 12:07

Let the agents deal with it! Never had a good experience with letting agents and as you've had your deposit back just block their number...

cmlover · 30/08/2018 12:08

I can see why you don't want to do it. I wouldn't ethier.

but

if they wanted to, they could report you for flytippimg... which has a massive fine attached.

id just do it to keep the peace whilst bitching about how shitty a landlord was. which if you ever find your self in the same situation, I believe contacting environmental health cankick the landlord up the but about repairs.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 30/08/2018 12:09

They obviously didn’t do a very thorough property check before letting the new people move in! Aren’t they supposed to check the condition of the outside areas to make sure it still safe? They’re shitty agents, they deserve what they get if the don’t do their jobs properly.

OliviaStabler · 30/08/2018 12:10

I'd ignore it. Landlord did nothing for you when you lived there so the least he can do is move a trampoline.

He sounds a tight git, surprised he didn't sell it already!

cmlover · 30/08/2018 12:11

or if you havnt allready said it was yours, I'd tell them it's not yours and nothing to do with you possablu?

violet0805 · 30/08/2018 12:13

Thanks for the replies everyone.
It's more of a matter of principal for me..
we were very good tenants, rent was never so much as a day late, we were very patient with them when waiting for repairs (which they wouldn't do for us but have done for the new tenants!)

I just think all the shit we put up with, the least they can do is remove the trampoline..

Confusedbeetle · 30/08/2018 12:13

Sadly for yopu, if they had seen it they would not have given you your deposit. I would definitely remove it as they would be legally allowed to charge you for its removal and professional removal does not come cheap

violet0805 · 30/08/2018 12:17

@Confusedbeetle but surely they will be told they should have done a thorough check before giving us the deposit back?

It’s a tenner for bulky item removal from my local council. Not expensive IMO.

HollowTalk · 30/08/2018 12:28

You should remove it. It's not their job to remove your rubbish. I know they were really crap, but that's a different thing to your leaving behind rubbish.

HollowTalk · 30/08/2018 12:29

It's about £35 at mine, @IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan, though you can have three items for that.

cmlover · 30/08/2018 12:34

hollowtalk my area if you get some short if benifit. working tax, or housing bennift(even if it's just 5 pounds) you get a discount and is 16 pounds for 3 items. but that's only once a year

violet0805 · 30/08/2018 12:36

@HollowTalk it's not my job to scrub mould from round windows in my kids bedrooms or pay to replace a flooring in the bathroom as it was carpet and smelt of piss, or go out and buy a portable heater for my daughters bedroom when they wouldn't repair a radiator that didn't work so they didn't freeze when we had a load of snow, which then in turn sent my electric bill through the roof...
