What sayings cringe you out? Mine just recently is 'making memories' I absolute cringe so hard when I see it all over Facebook and Instagram.

OP posts:

Absolutely hate any reference to ‘our little family’ (usually used when there’s a new baby and the parents want all other family members to know they’ve now been demoted to second tier status).

I particularly hate ‘we just want to concentrate on our little family’ / ‘we’re just getting used to being a little family’ / ‘My little family is my priority’. It’s all twee, smug, self-satisfied mince that’s makes me want to barf.

Pornstarlips · 27/08/2018 23:04

tw1nset Facebook does have many advantages but I hate all this competitive stuff about 'making memories'.

Singlenotsingle · 27/08/2018 23:04

Nice to see snappy MNetters. People after my own heart Grin

BagelGoesWalking · 27/08/2018 23:06

I have one person on my FB, the other aunt of my niece, who does the #makingmemories hashtags but, in real life, she's the loveliest and sweetest person I know, so she gets a pass.

But, seriously, where are you seeing all these? Presumably your friends are posting? I keep FB friends to a very small circle and I'm more likely to whatsapp more personal photos to our family group or a couple of friends. I rarely post on FB.

Why is it competitive? As I said I have friends who use some of the hashtags mentioned on here - I can't see how that makes them competitive.

I certainly don't use FB in a competitive way.

lemonsorbetinthesun · 27/08/2018 23:11

Does entertain me at times though.

Quickly scrolled through earlier and saw a post a friend had put up. "That was a hard shift, so relieved to be home"

I had to then scroll back up and re-read as I'd read shift without the 'f' and wondered why anyone would announce that.

LadyRussell · 27/08/2018 23:12

Having a date night, with your child or your husband.

Just yuck.

shuthefrontdoor · 27/08/2018 23:14

I hate the making memories one, we just went to the seaside as kids and it was just that, going to the seaside. I feel a lot of it these days is a bragging competition about who's doing what x

Pornstarlips · 27/08/2018 23:16

tw1nset I didn't say you are using FB in a competitive way but I have seen many posts where mothers have been 'making memories' with their children and posting about it on FB every 2 seconds. Maybe I am being cynical but it was almost like a competion, who can make bigger and better 'memories'. Although I do appreciate not everyone is like that.

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 27/08/2018 23:27

@Pornstarlips you seemed to be talking about FB generally and I was just saying that despite the fact that I an somebody who tries to create happy memories and I have friends who love a hashtag - that is not my experience. Maybe I am just being naive - but I doubt it

YouOKHun · 27/08/2018 23:37

Any email I receive at work inviting me to 'reach out' if I need anything. I just get that naff Diana Ross song in my head

@natwebb79 this is for you:

Making memories is something typhus so with a terminal diagnosis. Otherwise it’s just living.

Freewheelin74 · 27/08/2018 23:58

The thing that makes me cringe. Luxe instead of delux, nom nom, quality time and defiantly hubby!!

GunpowderGelatine · 28/08/2018 00:10

When people speak on behalf of their toddlers and babies when they post pictures:

"Feeding the ducks with mummy"

"Driving daddy round the bend"

Etc.

I have one friend who talks about the "love lives" of her children and it makes me heave. "Scarlett with her future husband ". She's 18 months old you twat. "Jake flirting with all the girls". He's 3!! Stop sexualising them!

I try not to think about the whole fake life Facebook bullshit for too long as it depresses the hell out of me that this is now our world.

partydownseason2 · 28/08/2018 00:21

People thanking the country they have visited as if it’s a close personal friend.

‘Thank you Spain, you’ve been amazing.’

Also a second vote for ‘our little family’, the smugness!!!

Freewheelin74 · 28/08/2018 00:23

Oops I forgot furbabies as well. Although I love my pets, this makes me cringe.

rainbowsandsmiles · 28/08/2018 01:04

People saying "makes me want to vomit" because they've seen someone write something they wouldn't personally write.
Same with "cringe me out".
Yes, you might not like what they've written, but come ON, you're not going to puke really, are you.

Beeziekn33ze · 28/08/2018 01:10

Freewheelin74, even worse when the fur babies go over the rainbow bridge. We love them, we're so sad to lose them but these (US?) expressions really grate.

As for making memories, the best ones are not planned, they just happen and stay in your memory for ever.

Twinkleheth · 28/08/2018 03:01

Love you big much, thank you muchly...

ileftmylunchathome · 28/08/2018 04:41

The naffest Instagram I've ever seen

Todamhottoday · 28/08/2018 05:28

Bubba, that word just makes me want to heave

Zoflorabore · 28/08/2018 06:00

I'm on the verge of leaving FB but sometimes it's the best form of "entertainment" Grin

What I hate though is the holiday countdown ones.
Someone on mine has just got back from somewhere abroad and has posted the countdown to the next one-

Countdown to Mexico- 342 days, 12 hours, 33 seconds or some crap.

Who gives a flying fuck?

SD1978 · 28/08/2018 06:15

Ivory is saying making memories with your family is twee- but having to publicly announce that is what you're doing is twee and naff. I'd say it's a pretty obvious distinction. No one is saying if you're in a life threatening or terminal situation you should do things with family memebers and friends. I'd have thought it was a pretty obvious distinction?

9amTrain · 28/08/2018 06:46

@Electrack I used to work with someone who frequently said "yummers".

Envy

I agree with all the ones said so far.

9amTrain · 28/08/2018 06:49

Defiantly instead of definitely... Seems noone can spell it.
