every single time we walk into that shop we argue so bad i think a divorce is on the cards. Then when we get home and have to build the crappy furniture with their sub standard instructions we have yet another row. currently sulking whilst my husband is swearing and crashing about. please tell me it’s not just us!

Yes, the big bags of mini Daim bars too, yum.

Hadjab · 27/08/2018 17:23

Hubby and I never had a domestic in Ikea, mainly because we’d always go one hour before closing on a weeknight when it would be deserted, and would always head straight to the marketplace, unless we needed to see something specific in the showroom.

Vitalogy · 27/08/2018 17:23

What's the Daim cake like, any good?

Camomila · 27/08/2018 17:23

Ikea is a fun day out for us too...the tiny rooms and the food especially.

DH and I whisper-rowed in Dunhelm Mill instead today and DS had a lay on the ground tantrum because we wouldn't let him take home blinds.

toothtruth · 27/08/2018 17:23

Weve had some lovely times in Ikea! We have no family in this country so no free babysitting really... and so im ashamed to say we used to sometimes go to Ikea for a coffee and put DS in the creche for the free hour and just sit and eat cake undisturbed...

emummy · 27/08/2018 17:24

You should all be very grateful for your Ikeas! Our nearest is a 2.5 hr drive away, I haven't been for 2 years. I sometimes browse around the website, but it's not the same!

Mumshotel · 27/08/2018 17:24

Yabu they sell those amazing little green and chocolate cakes. I like ikea, I just dont like the shoppers in there. God forbid you turn and follow the arrows the wrong way. People literally can't cope with it and become enraged. They should eat more cake and chill out. I also like their orange and elderflower marmalade and their bedding is very inexpensive but washes well.

NotMeNoNo · 27/08/2018 17:27

Nah, we are Ikea expert users. Bring it on! We have a van too so no problems transporting it all home. I love its all so cleverly designed and inexpensive the care they take over all the room sets.

Nowhere else is a patch on them for storage.

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/08/2018 17:28

I used to live relatively close to an Ikea abroad and would regularly go for a potter. The sugared donuts were divine and 4 to a pack would just about fit when I was pregnant.

Your mistakes are a) buying things, which need carrying and assembling and b) going there with another human, who is liable to argue with you. These days we go as a family. Dh hates going there and he hates that I all of a sudden need 50 or more items when we only went for a look round.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2018 17:29

@AmazingBouncingFerret omg the lifts in Coventry are a nightmare. As is the car park. But it's brilliant having it right in the city centre.

sulflower · 27/08/2018 17:30

every single time we walk into that shop we argue so bad i think a divorce is on the cards.

One of the reasons I'm delighted I divorced my ex. He bloody loved going to IKEA and I hate it with a vengeance.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 27/08/2018 17:31

I usually take ds2 to Ikea as he's the only one to share the joy of Ikea. And a sneaky hotdog.

We do joke that it's so dissociative inside, that time has lost all meaning and though we arrived on Thursday evening by the time we emerge blinking into the car park it's now next Monday. Grin

ScattyCharly · 27/08/2018 17:33

To the poster who asked, the daim cake is lush Grin

Loopytiles · 27/08/2018 17:36

Last time I went I took DD, who faffed and role played in the mini rooms. She said she looked forward to living alone, and far preferred the Ikea rooms to our chosen kitchen, decor and furniture, on which DH and I had just spent our life savings.

Loopytiles · 27/08/2018 17:36

The frozen salmon is excellent!

Vitalogy · 27/08/2018 17:36

I like lush Smile

speakout · 27/08/2018 17:36

OH and I love going- sorry.

We sneak in for breakfast at 9am on a Sunday morning and have a browse around the marketplace.

rebelrosie12 · 27/08/2018 17:38

Ikea is wonderful. We go all the time. With family, playdates for the kids, pop in for lunch.

Vitalogy · 27/08/2018 17:38

I'd like to try the frozen salmon. I've had it in their café and it was very nice.

Corneliusmurphy · 27/08/2018 17:39

Oo once saw Darren day and Suzanne shaw arguing in the Wembley one, it’s pefectly possible they didn’t know you had to buy the wardrobe door hinges separately either Hmm

Just one of those places you accidentally spend longer than planned in getting tired and tetchy in the process I do love their room setups though - hardly anywhere else shows their rooms/furniture like that anymore and I can always find something I neeeeeed...
everyone likes the restaurant and those nice oaty biscuit things for the way home.

AppleKatie · 27/08/2018 17:40

IKEA breaks marriages.

Tru Fact

nocturnelle · 27/08/2018 17:41

Sorry if this is a repeat, but Ikea leading to rows is such a recognised thing it was taken off by Tina Fey

Troels · 27/08/2018 17:41

Best IKEA trip ever was when we went late after doing an airport drop off for family during the week. We got there for tea time, ate and wandered though the nearly empty shop, picked up everything we needed and more Dh actually seemed to enjoy it. No argument what-so-ever.
I now refuse to go early in the day ever again.

RomanyRoots · 27/08/2018 17:42

It's sub standard but shouldn't close as those who can't afford real furniture or like shit wouldn't have anywhere else to go.

Kr3000 · 27/08/2018 17:42

I like to insist on going when DH is hungover as punishment.
